  • lol luckily I used a throwaway email address for this as I have a feeling future spam may not be subject to similar glitches.

  • Emailed them yesterday and received this reply

We faced a systems glitch from Woolworths on Friday due to which there was a slight delay in sending the eWish Gift cards to customers who compared after the 17th of February. Rest assured we are looking at getting this fixed at the earliest.

  • I received my $25 egift card via email. It included a link to the woolworths site where you could save/view the gift card

  • Pretty long 24 hours but it did finally arrive.

  • Got mine today! Thanks OP! ☺☺☺

  • +1

    $3.50 with code SAVEBIG

  • Still haven't got mine

  • +1

Still no gc and still no reply from sending them an email

Got a text saying "___ you are not eligible as the applicant's name must be on the bill as per terms and conditions". Can't find this condition anywhere though. How would this work for couples that applied or people house sharing?

    • The description is "You will receive email confirmation from econnex once you have successfully completed the process of comparing your electricity only &/or combined electricity & gas bills."

If it's not a bill in your name, you won't have the authority to change providers. So a bill comparison is pointless (to them).

      • Well, it's in one person name, but they don't do any shopping around, they just pay whatever we choose collectively.

        • +1

I understand the problem. I tried changing my Father's provider to a much cheaper one, but he wouldn't give authority. I was his live in carer with Enduring Power of Attorney over all his financial matters. Couldn't.
Same with share houses - often in someone else's name.

But unless the bill is in your name, you need to get the bill holder to apply. Otherwise anyone could change your provider or disconnect your service. So same with this promotion. You don't have the authority to act.

After all, this business likely only makes money if they can move people over to Alinta. So you don't meet their criteria.

          • @INFIDEL: I think that it's more about getting the word out. I mean, technically the people in this deal paid $3 to have their bills compared. That is very rare. I was going to pass on whatever their offer was to my parents. It's hard to get that result for $22 with just advertising. Oh and I doubt couples will have this restriction enforced.

            • @Cave Fire: Yes, paying for a bill comparison is so wrong! My guess is Groupon pocketed the payment.

I doubt any would have done this without the inducement of a Woolies gift card!

I wondered what they meant in the SMS confirmation by "If you are eligible, you will receive a $25 eWish gift card"! Now we know😢

Couples - unless bill is already in both names, still requires named bill holder to apply. It's a legal matter (for them).

If you had filled out the form in the bill holder's name - they would have approved the application!!

Like me - we both tried to help our parents. But I eventually got authority to put my name added to bills, changed plan (& received eGift card).

              • @INFIDEL: hey I read the updates, it's pretty bad that the company wouldn't change over in that situation. Yeah I could of applied in the bill holder's name, but they wanted license details. Oh and people have said Alinta can be cheaper, but you have to check that they keep their discount on for longer. It sometimes get's accidentally put back to higher than the intro discount rate.

Completed in 14 Feb and no email/gc

  • Got a SMS said my eGC has been sent to my registered email, but it is not in inbox, spam or anywhere. The system glitch email was received, so they have my correct email address.

    • +1

After sending them another email, I received my eGC yesterday.

  • Completed last 18 Feb, SMS received. Still no gc

  • completed 14 feb, received GC 8 march. sent 2x support emails and didn't receive a response to either of them, so they are probably not getting back to people

  • completed 14 feb, received GC 8 march. sent 2x support emails and didn't receive a response to either of them, so they are probably not getting back to people

  • Hello Everyone,

Thank you for comparing your bills online by uploading a copy of your latest Electricity bills on Econnex.

We have rolled out all eligible entries until 6th March. If you have compared as per the terms of the offer please check your email for the link to the eWish gift cards. Please make sure to check your spam/junk box as well in case it hasn't landed on the inbox.

There have been a few entries who did not qualify due to the below reasons-:

    -Incomplete Bill
    -Incorrect Name on the Bill
    -Move in Customers
    -No Bill Uploaded
-Uploaded a bill of WA or NT
    -Ergon Energy Customers
    -Electricity bill not uploaded
-Multiple entries for the same customers and uploaded the same bill more than once.

If you have also switched your retailer to Alinta Energy please allow up to 90 days until the additional gift card arrives.

Should you still have any queries please email us at [email protected].

    • Hi Manyo,
I had such a disappointing phone call about this I've put it in the forums for anyone to read. Still hoping that some sense can be made of it all.

I wonder if you are able to clarify what an 'incomplete bill' is?
      The T&C's stated
      • You will receive the $25 Woolworths WISH eGift Card by email within 7-10 business days once you have entered your last quarterly electricity bill details plus uploaded a copy of this same bill.
      And
Follow the prompts by entering your last electricity bill details & uploaded a copy of this bill.
Must provide valid email address and phone number.

If someone uploaded a bill and said it was their last electricity bill, how can it be incomplete? And if the name on the bill wasn't theirs (as one user mentioned above) I don't see anything in the T&C's that disqualifies it?

      • And if the name on the bill wasn't theirs (as one user mentioned above) I don't see anything in the T&C's that disqualifies it?

As I commented earlier that the requirement is in the Deal Description - copied from the Groupon offer which we bought & you quoted the relevant t&c above:

There is a requirement: entered your last quarterly electricity bill….

If the name on the bill doesn't contain your name (can be multiple people's names) - it's not your bill.

If someone uploaded a bill and said it was their last electricity bill, how can it be incomplete?

In that case, the uploading of your bill was not completed, if it wasn't yours. Passing off another person's bill as yours is very naughty legally! (Even if you pay the bill.)
By the t&c you posted - it would not be eligible.

If your name is not on the account / bill, you don't have the authority to enquire about an account or change providers - which is the basis of this bill comparison Deal.

Electricity retailers would not be able to discuss bill details with anyone other than the account holder!

If I found someone was enquiring about my accounts using my details without my authority - that that would be a serious matter!
(This applies to most accounts at banks, insurance, permits & licences, etc. They can only deal with the people named on the account.)

As it was discussed already & you quote the relevant t&c which require it to be your bill - you still don't understand the difference between something with your name on it & someone else's?

Having dealt with this issue with an electricity retailer - I got permission from the family member (account holder) to be added to the account (& bills) so I could change providers to get the best deal for them.
Until that was done - retailers could not discuss bill details with me.

        • ‘Your’ bill.
If I have a bill that I pay, it is my bill no matter whose name is on it.
Your post on ozbargain = you wrote it, you posted it, you take responsibility for it. If it were in my name it’d still be your post.

Also, can econnex tell me with absolute certainty that they know exactly how every electricity provider structures their bills? If not then how do they know if a bill is complete? And how do they know who has authority on the account? Is every account holder and authorised person listed on the bill?

I’m just saying that unless something is spelt clearly in terms and conditions then it’s unfair to simply deny people based on an assumption. Their terms and conditions spelt very little out.

          • +1

@seanbaussie: I know where you are coming from, but I think you might be fighting a losing battle because clearly the lawyers have no clue about promotions, however they need the account holder.
Although if you pay it it should be in your name, or at least an account holder.

          • @seanbaussie: I drive a family member's car as they're away, pay the bills - their rego & insurance (I'm added as driver but not on the bill), etc. I might refer to it as 'my car' - but it's not.

Same with "your" bill - you may be responsible for its payment, but the bill shows it is in the name of someone else.

Anyone can pay a bill (if they have the account number). Same with depositing money into someone's bank account. That doesn't make it your account or bill.

Only those authorised can access or change the account.
This offer was to try to convince us to change our account / provider so needs authority.

If you are authorised to access & change the account - you should have your name on the account / bill.

If your name is not on the bill as (possibly joint) account holder - contact your retailer to correct the mistake. That will require the account holder's authority.

Account holders are liable for paying money owing - so the retailer needs to be told asap if there is a change in account holder - probably stated in their t&c.

The Deal needed to be better explained & thought out. Many people share accommodation - with only one person listed on the bill (who may not even live there). I don't think the promoters thought about that!

Stating only account holders shown on bill could apply would have been helpful in your case.

But people did not read details that were clearly stated (eg buying Groupon for WA etc even though this was in Deal Title & Description & on Groupon as not available). So no matter how clear the deal was spelled out - some made mistakes.

          • +1

            @seanbaussie:

If I have a bill that I pay, it is my bill no matter whose name is on it.

You seem confused between your (payment of a) bill & it being your bill.

If you're still unsure who's bill it is, here's a simple test -

If the bill is unpaid, who does the electricity retailer send the debt collectors etc to -
you (that makes it your bill)
or the person(s) named on the bill (not your bill).

You don't outline your authority over the account for this to be "your" bill.

You may have a private agreement with the account holder named on the bill, with an undertaking to them to pay (partly or fully) their bill, but that doesn't make it "your" bill. They may chase you for the money, but usually informal agreements aren't easily enforceable.

(I rented an office for my business in an historic CBD building. The electricity was still wired to the fashion retailer next door that had used that office. I was rarely there & used little electricity.
6 months later, I was told an agreement would need to be made. I agreed that would be best. The electricity supply could have been cut, but both parties would have to pay for the commercial electrician & get permission in a heritage listed building… They failed to suggest an agreement - we were both busy in our businesses.
So I never had to pay - it wasn't my bill😉)

No, it is your (responsibility to pay the other person's) bill, not your bill💰

  • Mine was in spam - sender is econnex if anyone is having trouble searching their spam folder.

    I didn’t get it, I think it’s a scam, claiming back groupon

    • Many have received our $25 eGift Cards.
      So not a scam.

Did you check your Spam folder - a few found the emails there?
Have you been contacted to say it was rejected? See Forum
Did you fail to meet the conditions outlined by rep?
Have you contacted them? Contact details in Reps comment. Some contacted them & received eGift card.

Groupon was a no refund deal with conditions (eg upload your latest complete bill - in your name) to receive eGift Card.

  • Hello Everyone,

Apologies for the inconvenience. As mentioned earlier, there was a glitch from Woolworth's system, and the Gift Cards were not delivered automatically; hence, we had to send them through manually.

The glitch has been fixed; however, the system inadvertently sent those gift cards again.

We have notified Woolworths regarding this issue and the second gift card is inactive.

  • This is a con.
I purchased the voucher, did all of that on 17 feb and til now I still havent receive the gift card yet.
Complaint to groupon, and groupon keep saying please wait as they are liaising with the merchant and then yesterday Groupon just told me
that the merchant has already sent the giftcard email and they want me to liaising with the merchant.
I tried to email the [email protected] but no reply from them.

    • Hi Rafael,

Thanks for your note. Please check your spam folder as many emails are landed there. If it is not there, then you might not be eligible as you have compared on 17th March.

Furthermore, it is not a scam as we have given more than 1000 gift cards and have reduced energy bills of 300+ people.

We are happy to assist; please contact us on [email protected]

      • Hi Manyo,
        How many are not eligible?

      • I've emailed that address twice and not gotten a response.

        • Suggest complain direct to Alinta - this business is promoting Alinta (badly).
Alinta may get more action - as their potential customers are getting driven away by this business!

        • Hi Jennkei, Can you please email your Groupon Voucher code, email address and contact number on [email protected]. So we can investigate and revert back to you. Thanks

  • -2

How many have contacted Groupon and asking for refund?
How many have filed complaint to ACCC and Department of Fair-trading?
How long you are going to run this scam?

    • Hi Jobs,

Sorry to know about your displeasure.

All entries which qualified under the terms of the offer have already been sent the eWish Gift card. We have received a small numbers of entries where the bills uploaded were either someone else’s or incomplete. These entries failed to meet the criteria and hence did not qualify for the eWish Gift card. Hope you have your question answered.

      Thanks

  • Same here, did everything correct, uploaded bill on 12/03/2019 received text same day and no communication whatsoever after that. Sent email to [email protected] still no response.

    • Hi Kelasen, Can you please email your Name, Groupon Voucher code, email address and contact number on [email protected]. So we can investigate and revert back to you. Thanks

      • Hi Manyo,

Please re-read my comment above, I have already sent email to [email protected] with Name, Groupon Voucher code, phone number and email address and STILL NO RESPONSE.

        • Hi Kelasen, As mentioned in my above comment please send your details on [email protected] instead of [email protected] Thanks

          • @Manyo: Thanks Manyo. I have forwarded the email to [email protected]

            • @kelasen: Thanks Manyo got the gift card yesterday after my email.

          • @Manyo: Sent three emails to
[email protected] on March 9,20,23. Will try one more time..

@jennkei: Hi Jennkei, We have tried to get in touch with you multiple times, but couldn't get hold of you.
Please check your SPAM or junk folders as these communications may be filtered by your email providers.

              Thanks

  • @Manyo: I have checked my spam, multiple times. Nothing. Just emailed with two alternate email addresses, see if those work. And you know you can always call me…you have my number…

Received text on 18 Feb. Still no voucher received.
Sent an email to [email protected] on 26 March. No response.

Gonna make a complaint to Groupon.

    Hopeless service.

    • Hi Mayflower,

Apologies for the inconvenience. Can you please send your Groupon Voucher code, email and contact number used during comparison again on [email protected] and we will revert back to you.

      Thanks

      • Hi Manyo, up to what date have you sent out by now? 7 working days have passed since we got the text on 10 May

        • Ah thought it was 5-7 working days but just saw it is 7-10 working days so still within that range

      • +1

10 working days now and nothing, can you let us know up to when you’ve sent out?

  • I just went to use my voucher and there was $18 missing(I could see the transaction). Obviously I was sent the same gift card as someone else.
My advice would be to check yours and if you haven’t used it yet, so so ASAP.

  • Got a telemarketer contacting me about changing my energy supplier now.

    • Got one too yesterday..

      • wasn't even from Alinta .. Powershop…

    • dude from econnex starts harassing me since yesterday, eager to get my ID and sign me up on some plan
