Upcoming Wedding Costs: What Are Your Recommendations for Best Credit Card Mix for Max Flyer Points?

Hi all,

So the last of the wedding costs are coming up (around 11k) so wondering what the best selection of credit cards with the bonus points/minimum spend is my best way to take advantage of these costs. Also to stop the tears when I pay for this.

Situation
- I currently have an Amex platinum edge so that keeps me out of that equation.
- I usually go for Velocity points in these type of promotions (but don't mind either way)
- not looking to drop too much on annual fees

Any recommendations OZB community?? Very much appreciated

    Confirm that what and where you're paying for doesn't have credit card surcharges. Our venue had 1.5% fee for Mastercard/AMEX, so we just paid via bank transfer.

      Thanks, I just checked and the venue only takes VISA & Mastercard with no surcharges.

    We paid for our wedding using Amex Platinum Reserve which netted us 3pts/$ as the venue was classified a restaurant, so resulted in a bagful of points for nothing.

    We had agreed price & payment terms (nothing paid until the week prior - paid $5k a week out, balance the night before), then dropped the Amex shell at the point of paying. Too late to argue they dont accept it.

      And what would you have done if there terminal didnt accept amex cards?

        We'd paid for a meal/drinks there a few weeks before our wedding with Amex, so we knew they were capable of accepting it.
