Refurb - Toilet flushed phones cleaned with Dettol wipes

      • Apple refurbs are pretty good…new parts (inc battery). As for others…

$1k for refurbished eh technology? Damn mobile phones are getting ridiculous.

    • +5

Yeah you know what is funny they are cheaper to make then ever before but more expensive to buy go figure?

My Grandpa paid three shillings and two pence for his iPhone.

        • I guess he paid the iron price.

Margins on iPhones have actually decreased over the years.

your talking shit the X has a bigger margin then the 8 that 8 came out 3 years ago?

There has been an increase in margin by 5% over 3 years! that is f***n massive

That isnt a 5% increase in price that is a 5% increase in MARGIN businesses like coles and woolworths have TOTAL margins of like 1-5% on most sales the iphone x has a 64% margin let that sink in….

Anything American is 100% capitalist rip off it isnt even like the technology has gotten loads better since the 8 and if anything the phone market has become MORE competitive then it was 3-4 years ago but margins but been beefed up heaps? how does that work?

          • @Trying2SaveABuck: Yikes. Someone is a bit miffed.

First, I know what a margin means. Second, you’re going way off topic with your anti American rant. Third, the iPhone 8 is 1.5 years old. Fourth, margins based solely on subtracting cost of manufacture from the price of the device is misleading as it doesn’t take into account r&d, support costs, ongoing update and software cost, let alone cost of cpu manufacture which we know Apple is way ahead of the game in.

Irrespective of your wide ranging rant above, we have conflicting sources. Seems there is speculation about whether margins have gone up or down but I’m not in the mood to argue with an internet random so I’ll just leave it as a ‘meh maybe’.

Here’s another more detailed article on how the margins have decreased.

            https://www.phonearena.com/news/Profit-margins-on-the-iPhone…

            • @blergmonkeys: Not a rant, … 'profit margins' or down because sales overall are slowing due to a lack of creativity and an overall expensive technology that is being matched by its competitors if anything you can get a lot more tech for less…

Yes you have to take the whole thing into account thus marketing costs are up but sales are down so of course margins are dropping but the overall cost of the tech to how much they are selling it for is up and there is no excuse for that….

Im also not in the mood to argue with some random so ill agree to disagree but if the Iphone X was $1000 instead of $2000 Apple sales would be through the roof

          • @Trying2SaveABuck: FYI, Coles/Woolies gross margin is actually closer to 50%

With brands like Huawei charging $2.6k a phone, yes, mobile phone prices have gotten rediculous.

$1k for refurbished eh technology? Damn mobile phones are getting ridiculous.

Worse, it is just used. Not even a real Apple refurb.

  • Just save the extra $200 and get an Xr the difference in resolution and lack of OLED isn't that noticeable plus the Xr main camera is far better than the X's and the Xr has way better battery and will get an extra year of software updates :)

    • +9

Besides the battery comment. Everything else you mentioned is false. I have an X and my wife has the XR, screen and camera is especially better on the X.

      • The Xr single lens camera is in fact better than the X due to Apples introduction of Super HDR this year and the 2x optical zoom on the X is almost never used by anyone that has one although you could be an exception to this rule.

        • Sometimes a spec sheet doesn’t say tell the whole story. We have both phones, comparing it side by side you can see night and day difference on camera and screen for the X and XR.

          • +3

@ozeebee: If you're looking at the pictures on the phones that have taken them you're probably seeing the difference in the screen rather than the camera.

      • +3

main camera on the Xr is identical to the Xs. Xs camera is a major upgrade on the X, hence Xr has a better camera than the X. Better processor and of course it'll get an extra year of updates since its a year newer, nothing false about that

        • I’m not making comparison by looking at spec sheets. I’m making comparisons having both phones available to compare anytime.

          • +1

@ozeebee: I have the X and my partner has the Xr and I feel the Xr photos are better.
Might be the smart HDR in play but taking the same photo side by side I think the Xr comes out better.

    • The XR is a big step back form the X, it has a lower pixel density than the 4S released in 2011, that is disgraceful. It loses 3D touch, which for someone like me is a massive loss too.
XR doe shave better CPU, GPU and battery, all else is worse.

      • Everybody freaks out about the numbers too much. Yes the Pixel density on the Xr is less than on the X but it's not drastic and if I did a blind test I guarantee you 80% of people wouldn't be able tell which is which unless they were right up to the screen. People also seem to neglect extra performance (A12 bionic chip) and battery life in the Xr because of the screen when the performance and battery life are something that are more crucial to a phone.

        • You need to go to Apple and see them lined up.
The Xr screen looks terrible when they are next to an X

The Xr was a flop for Apple in regards to sales

        • Everybody freaks out about the numbers too much. Yes the Pixel density on the Xr is less than on the X but it's not drastic

As I mentioned, it is (Slightly) lower than a 4S released in 2011, that is pretty appalling. The screen would be more noticeable than the performance. Battery life is as always, something you can never get enough of, so a good advantage to the XR, a large part due to the more efficient chip, as much as the larger battery only having to cater to nearly half the pixels.

If you cant see a difference between an LCD aznd an Oled get your eyes checked

Just pointing out that these aren’t refurbished by Apple, so it’s a complete gamble that they will last more than the 6 month warranty period. Still a decent deal but back up regularly just in case.

    • -5

Buyers have the same ACL rights as purchasing new unless I'm mistaken.

      • +1

        You're mistaken…

No way i'd pay that for a non-apple refurbished phone

Dont get me wrong i'd probably never buy an iphone again but if i did i think 1k for a 2nd hand phone is a mass rip off even if it is the bigger storage model

Any body can slap the word 'refurbished' on something when literally all they have done is turn it on make sure it starts (if they have even done that).

If refurbishment is going to become a more standard practice due to raising cost of technology it needs to have regulated standards otherwise it is just bullshit

  • Hmm so I'm in a bit of a bind. My fiance's iPhone 6S Plus finally died, I'm leaving for Singapore in a week and want to take advantage of duty free tax back.

Definitively, if it came to buying an iPhone X (my current phone) or an iPhone XR (it seems a slight bump up? or the same?) or an iPhone Xs.. what'd be the cheapest option, in-hand by Friday, that's not a refurb?

    • +1

Get one from the Apple Store the day before you depart.
If you're back in 14 days, you could return it. 😂

    • +1

iPhone XR. The CPU is manufactured on 7nm. The GPU is much faster.

Duty free tax back - technically, at the airport, you will be reminded that if you were to bring the iPhone X/XR/XS back, you'll need to declare it on your way back and pay the GST back.

    • +2

The 6S Plus has a higher resolution than the XR, you would be effectively going from 1080P to 720P, and lose 3D Touch.
I would go an X or XS, but the prices on the XS are just insane. I am sticking with my 6S until it is dead, dead, dead.

      • The circuit board on the iPhone 6S died, so it's dead dead :( Once I got into the specs of the iPhone XR I realized it wasn't for me. The problem is the iPhone X prices are too damn high.

      • This is correct. The 6S is the last good iphone. I just bought another one for the day mine (bought refurb 2 years ago!) finally dies. It's currently going strong.

    • Thanks folks for your replies. Seems with the Apple Enterprise Discount an iPhone XS is $1,451 and Smart Case is $163 direct from Apple. Might have to pull the trigger on that.

    • try get an officeworks pricematch.

  • sounds like a lot of returned warranty claims to off load

  • +2

If you want Iphone X, don't get refurbished. It is pretty much a gamble with some of these sellers. I've heard stories of people getting a refurbished and opened it up to find parts that had rust on them.

You're better off buying a used phone that it is still in great condition.

  • I don't trust ozsale their support and deals are trash, ordered something and they didn't ship it for two months

  • +1

Lol 1k for a second hand phone

  • +2

    My personal experience with horrible.

Ordered a jacket, waited 1 month and item still didn't ship.

Took 2 months of constant contact to cancel and refund the payment.

Wasted three months to get back $75, so wouldn't trust them with a $1000…

  • +1

I'll keep using my 6S until it dies, and when it does, I'll switch to my SE. I just cannot justify the cost of an upgrade. The 6S does what I need it to, and the SE is just a small screen version of the same thing. UNless Apple reviews its pricing policies, I doubt I will ever have another iPhone (and I have been an iPhone user since 2007 when some of us had them imported from the USA). As for refurbs, I think mresell is probably fairly safe. Nobody else though.
