  • Anyone with thoughts this vs canon eos 1100d?

    • +1

Both are great, I think everyone gets wrapped up in the specs too much, when they need to focus on becoming a better photographer.

      • I was hoping on getting some thoughts in regards to user friendliness as both cameras are targeted at "new users"

        • +2

i have a nikon d3100 and i think it's pretty user-friendly and straightforward. it has a guide mode where it helps you select the best mode and all. pretty user-friendly enough just to shoot, focus and zoom. may take you a while to get the best use out of it when you get to learn things like aperture, but for the most part it's great for newbies

  • I don't think very highly of the warranty service shopping square provides. Not a reliable operator imo.

    • Do you have any examples you can give us? What has been your history with them? (If you don't mind sharing)

      • for start, the reason the cameras are cheap because they import them from Hong Kong. Go figure :)

      • just look for the shopping square deals on cameras on ozbargain and look for the comments, you will see why. Here's someplace to get you started :)

For starters the warranty is "•1 Year Warranty in Australia", not Nikon

        How is the Warranty Work?

        • I suspect(!) that you pay shipping and send it to Shoppingsquare.com.au who will have it repaired (not sure if goes back to HK or it gets locally repaired). Note that it is going to take time to repair.

With Local Nikon Warranty, it took ME 3 weeks to have my lens repaired locally and I suspect this will be a lot more.

AS LONG AS YOU DON'T GET ANY ISSUES, YOU ARE GOOD, OTHERWISE, YOU WILL BE NEGGING shoppingsquare.com.au DEALS at www.ozbargain.com.au FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE :)

  • and get 2% cashback from moneybackco to make it $607.55.

But It still wouldnt make me buy a camera from shopping square.

  • Good price, when i see grey imports i usually compare against DWI:

    http://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/store/product.asp?idProd…

    $588 + $30 (shipping) = $618.

    good price!

  • thats a great price! great camera as well

I am a Canon fanboy with three high end Canons, and I was looking at buying a 550/600D for backpacking, till I put one of these through its paces. Sleak little shooter, it Does struggle with lowlight but so does the 600, and colour temp is a bit off under lights. Bang for your buck its the best budget DSLR, despite being lower res and not working with my lens or speedlights I am getting one.

  • Offer also includes a $25 voucher

yes, it comes with a Bunus, whatever that is… :P

  • This isn't a bargain, it is an average price for a grey. If you don't know what grey is, basically these cameras are sourced from outside the retailers recommended supply streams. As such the manufacturer won't honor their warranty with these cameras, warranties will be handled by the store you buy from.

And from what I've picked up, DDE and DWI have a better reputation than Shopping Square.
DDE also have a sister company based in North Sydney (http://www.d-d-photographics.com.au/) which they use for their warranty claims so you don't have to send your camera overseas.

I have used DDE and DDP and would highly recommend them. It took 3 days for my camera to arrive from time of order, shipped from SG.

  • I just purchased this camera from www.hkbns.com for $584.02 delivered. I selected US currency instead of AU and also used the promo code SAVE10 for an extra $10 off. Shipping was free.

    • where did you find the body only?
don't want the lens that's packaged with it
      rather a couple of primes
      thanks

      • The purchase was for the Nikon D3100 Kit (18-55mm) :)

        • Did you just just purchase it or did you do so a few days ago and have already received it? I was going to ask how long it took for you to receive the camera and if it came in the standard retail box but now that I have re-read your post I am thnking it may be too early to ask! :)

  • Gryphon, I purchased it last night, I hope to receive it mid next week as they are sending via FedEx. Do not forget if you purchase one through www.hkbns.com to select US currency - it worked out around $35 cheaper than using AU currency.

    • Yeah, I noticed that after reading your original post last night. Thanks for the tip and reply!
