Optus 12 Month SIM Only Plan Offers Increase in Price after 12 Months

I signed up to the Super Spring Saver deal in October 2017 at $30/month for 15GB Data, Unlimited calls and Text. No where did I read then (and they make it hard to find or access any CIS and Contract information for that particular plan now) that the price would increase after 12 months - and only now in Feb 2019 have started being charged $40/month. The contract stated (similarly to the current CIS at the link under the current $35 deal on now at https://www.optus.com.au/shop/mobile/phones/sim-only) "These plans have a minimum term of 12 months."
Tried chatting online to Optus, getting nowhere as they just say along the lines of 'It states clearly the deal price is for a 12 month contract… or they try to spruik the current $35 deal.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it a fact that the price advertised for these deals only apply for the 12 Month contract term? I thought it would be like every other plan I've had with multiple carriers that once the contract term ends you'd be free to leave without paying a fee, not that the deal you signed up for would finish and you'd start paying a standard monthly price? If this is the case can anyone find documentation/contracts/Critical Information Summaries that supports this? Willing to stand corrected.

Thanks!

From memory, the deal was 25% off the plan fee for 12 months? If so, not really surprising that it reverted to the 'normal' price after that.

    • Ah that make sense. I guess I'll move to the $35 for 30GB deal, seems ok…

      • Or if you only want 15gb, just shop around.
There is probably a 15gb deal cheaper than $30 per month .

I'm not aware of every single mobile offer.
But even this works out $30 month for 15gb, you can buy 3, well others posted in that deal that if data runs out, cheapest topup would be another sim (simswap replacement i guess)

If you are fine with 5gb month, then this $120 12months deal is awesome value IMO.

In most instances, one wouldn't want to stay on plan from 12 months ago. It seems we are offered more data for less $$$. Only exceptions would be the old $2 day unlimited calls/text/data deal. They kept us on it, but put that up even to $3/day, and before that made the change for 3g only (no 4g) , but I can still stream netflix well, and up to about 2k netflix streamed using hotspot to android tv.

      • i did this too, then they gave me random discounts (without me asking) and somehow they only bill me $27/month for 30gb.

Few lines from the top of second page of your bill, there should be a plan ID, you can look up your CIS from this page

Another way is to look just above the total, near bottom of second page of your bill, see if it has "Less 25% Discount for 12 months"

    • Was just about to do that if someone else hadn't…. Yep clearly says up the top

$40 SIM Only Plan - Optus having Super Spring Saver down to $30/month for 12 Months.

  • Get more data, pay less and stay on optus network…
    Catch Connect 12 mts prepaid using Optus network… 205GB (17GB mth) $340 ($28.34mth eq).

  • I have the same plan as you in 2 accounts. The plans expired in November and I'm still paying $30. But I had many issues with optus at the beginning (they charged me $40 a couple of times) and they haven't credited that back yet

    • Maybe they're crediting you back now in the form of lower monthly bills to make up for previously charging $40/mth?

  • This does seem to be a new Optus approach. Before now deals just reverted to exactly the same but month to month. More often now deals are noted as bonus and the bonus has a time limit.

It's not all plans and sometimes you just have to contact Optus and they'll reinstate it. However a others have said once on month to month there's probably a better deal to sign up to on offer.

  • This is Optus new billing system not correctly bringing over discounts that were added to their plans.
I am on an old $60 my plan plus with a $20 discount for signing up online. Comes with 10GB.I had been paying $30 for with plan with a $10 discount for having cable internet with Optus.
When the new bill/billing system came my plan had increased to $50 removing the $20 discount for signing up online.
I got on chat and talked to a rep who said it looks like you have got the discount for 24 months and are no longer getting it as contact us over. I told him for a start the contract was for 12 months and my plan ended over 2 years ago. He said he could not bring up my account information from the old billing system.I said it was his problem not mine and I will be taking it straight to the TIO. He immediately added a $20 discount to my account.
I have read the CIS and it clearly says "
    INFORMATION ABOUT PRICING
    Minimum monthly charge
    $40 per month ($60 with a $20 discount)."
No where does it say at the end of 12 months the price will increase.
I think Optus will be getting more fines for there dodgy practices.
