Thank you for actually using the Australian 'maths' instead of the US-centric 'math'!

    • MathNerd would be proud if they could post.

the deal is not available online? Can't find it following the link unless I'm missing something.

    • In store only.

    • never mind, find the deal online, just click buy now.
just wanted to see the details. Obviously buy in store if you can get another $60 off.

      • Did you find it? Or is it available just in store?

        • Here is the link https://offer.optus.com.au/shop/prepaid/sim-card/180-sim?SID=con:prep:exp:2:jan19:prep:$180sim:12months
          Its expiry happens today

          • -1

            @tenryu: Looks like deal expired!

          • @tenryu:

            DATA ROLLOVER
Up to 50GB when you recharge before expiry.

oh that's no good if you don't use all of your 60GB and just saving it for a rainyday…kinda forces you to use at least 10GB on your first year and all of it on your next recharge and thereafter since you have a max bank of 50GB…..

  • +7

Want to know how long this deal is going.

    • -1

Its expiry is today Feb 19th

      • +1

        Still available in-store

  • +1

Good deal, it's equal to $10 per month with 5gb per month, it also has international roaming and data rollover. Just found out this is starter pack, hopefully it has long expire date on the starter pack.

    • +1

      Has international roaming? That's handy!

      • You can get a $10 pack which is valid for 14 days or a $20 pack which is valid for 28 days. Calls, text and data are charged based on which zone the country is in. I think it can be as low as $1/min up to $4/min.

    • +1

Ad says activate within 30 days from purchase, so I'm not sure if this takes precedence over the expiry date on the pack.

  • +1

Currently on the Coles Mobile 365 day $180 for 42GB plan that I bought last February. This Optus plan is much better value giving an additional 18GB. I can't get to an Optus store until Tuesday, will be interesting to see if it is all Optus stores that have this for $120 instead of $180.

    • You'll need to port over to another provider first.
I'm on Coles as well and tried to get girls in shop to do in-store shifty and get me ported over without having to faff around going to different provider only to then port back to this offer.
Thus - you need to be with different provider Telstra/Voda in order to be deemed "new customer" and make their computer system happy.

      • Port from Amaysim to catch, both use optus. No issue at all

  • +11

hmm… good deal… now the only thing stopping me is at-least 20 different starter packs I have hoarded through various $10/$8 deals.

    • Be careful with that. A user on whirlpool was banned by telstra and optus for 'fraud' I.e constantly swapping from one starter pack to another.

If you do it enough times you will show up on the radar.

      • +13

been doing it for about 5 years lol. monthly.

        • +1

Same, about 4 years running. Never had issue.

        • +2

Same, about 3 years. It certainly is not 'fraud' IMO unless your using fake ID and not registering in your own name.

        • Apparently he was doing it multiple times per month and had attracted law enforcement interest.

        • I was a monthly porter till the Amaysim $1 for $10 credit deal a while back. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/390340
I should be good for another year.

          • @craigoss: Looks like you may be in trouble with your vouchers. "Voucher Expiry Date 20 May 2019".

      • Only if you are too lazy to port existing number and activate hundred of these starter packs under new phone number each time then discard the used sim

    • lol me too. damn it.

  • What happens after the 365 days is up usually with these plans? Do you have to port out before it ends to keep your number?

    • +1

You can either recharge on the same plan, change to another Optus prepaid plan or port out.

    • +2

If you're asking whether your number dies they after the plan finishes then no, they give you a grace period (varies from telco to telco). Aldi gives you 120 days to either recharge or port out. After that 120 days the number is disconnected and eventually put back into the pool of available numbers.

Also with aldi at least you can still receive calls/texts, just can't make them.

  • -3

Isn't it a total pain in the ass swapping phone numbers every time a new deal comes out?

I've had the same mobile number for 15 years, can't imagine changing it every few months.

    • +2

Is porting your old number not an option with this deal?

    • +6

we will go through lengths to save a few bucks, that's the ozbargain way.

      • Yes, & spend more on soewehere else?? ..

    • +4

You can port your old number over.

      • My experience-YMMV - porting from Telstra to Optus took me 15 days

        • +8

I do it all the time.. normally takes <15mins

        • That's usually the case if your details don't match up and they have to manually investigate.

        • Mine took 3 days plus 40 minutes on the phone transferring from Telstra to Optus.

        • Did your old sim, continue to work until the port was completed?
I have over 15 days left on 1 month postpaid with amaysim $10 mth plan.
This deal is good enough IMO, that it is OK to lose (risk losing) those few days, and have an active service up until time porting is completed.
Active service until porting is completed is essential, for my needs.

      • You can only do this at the $180 price. The in-store discount is only available to 'new customers'/'new numbers'

        • where does it say that?

  • What's the expiry date of the pack?

    • 10/2020 but the last date to activate is 31/03/2019

      • 31/03/2019? isn't the date when sales end? i thought Activate within 30 days of purchase

        • 30 days as per the ad but as far as I know 31/03 is the activation date. Worth to check

  • I don't see it in the link

  • Can this data be shared with my other Optus mobile service?

    • +1

No, this is prepaid, so separate from others

    • Couldn't find this info neither, but if we can data pool, then this is better than $15/3g.
Having said that, considering data rolls over, I doubt you can share data.

  • -5

I can't see any 365 day deals at the link provided. Got a better link?

  • +4

Ignoring any other benefits Optus has or service differences, I think discounted Belong sims are still a better deal for $ per data/month? Albeit with a bit of stuffing around.

If you buy 2 of the $40 sims for $13.50 (as per recent mobileciti deal) and use an OzB referral to start, and then refer yourself with your second sim you can get 60-62GB of data up front and $40 of credit on your main number. By then changing to the $10 a month plan your first 4 months are covered with credit and you only need to pay for 8 months ($80) so after 12 months total you have only spent $107 and you will have had 70 odd gig of data.

This becomes an gets even better deal if you buy 3 or more belong sims up front and keep the chain going, or top up your main sim with a referral (max of 10 per number) any time they're on sale.

    /Bargain overkill

    • But then you need to have 3 different phone numbers over 12months?

      • +3

Nah, you keep your primary sim - and with Belong you can gift data between numbers.

So you just get throwaway numbers for the referral bonus credit and sign up data and then cancel those accounts once you've transferred the data.

        • +2

          Got it, I obviously need a coffee…

  • +1

I went to Ashfield store, they have no idea about the $60 discount.
Anyone manage to buy? How did you do ? Thanks

    • yeah I'm worried about going in and they having no idea either and I look like an idiot. It's not advertised anywhere

    • Me too. Sunshine, Vic. Lady said it's online only.

      • Mate who works at Optus reckons it was once $300 with $120 off making it $180 although someone just posted they got it for the price

  • +4

Noooo I just activated 90 days with catch for 15$… But 120$ for the comfort of not switching anymore… Tempting

    • No reason why u can't do both as cc deal only lasts 90 days. Also if you did Cashrewards then that was only $10 and legit bargain.

      • +1

He may have even got it with Shopback for a cost of $5.

I just received my CC SIM in today's mail and am tossing up whether to grab one of these or not.

They remind me of Pokemon. Gotta catch them all.

      • That type of bargain usually disappear fast, I don't know if it will be around in 30 days (I could buy now and activate in 29 days to maximize).

    • Link to deal?

  • +5

150 votes and no confirmation of the deal in store?

  • +1

skeptics with this deal….anyone able to get this deal?

    trolling?

  • +2

I hope this is legit, or I'm gonna look like an absolute moron going in there asking for it later.

    Thanks OP.

    • Eh. Feign buying it, see what it scans at then 'forget' your wallet if you really feel that sheepish.

Better yet wait for a consensus on its legitimacy.

  • +1

Maybe someone can confirm if they manage to get this deal and advise how they did it.
Worth to call the store before you go there

  • +5

went to optus store in brisbane cbd..and they advised its $180 and its online promo only. They too have no clue of any additional discount of $60 if bought in-store.

    • +2

Just bought it from Brisbane CBD store on the way home from work for $120. Think they got notified about the discount.

    • +1

      Try it here https://offer.optus.com.au/shop/prepaid/sim-card/180-sim?SID=con:prep:exp:2:jan19:prep:$180sim:12months

      • Excellent work - finally an online method to get this deal!

  • Wow, this smashes the Aldi $99 12gb plan out of the water. $21 for 48 extra gb.

    Edit* If it's legit.

  • +5

    Haha 160+ up vote.
And no one has managed to claim this deal?!

    Can anyone confirm?

  • +5

i just bought 1 in optus highpoint for $120

    • Great, do you know the expire date on the pack? Cheers

      • +2

        October 2020

        • Can you please confirm that it shows 365 days 60GB on the pack? The one in Ashfield shows 6 months expiry. Thanks

          • +2

@RoseJJ: It’s 60GB, it doesn’t matter if they expire October 2020, as it says above must activate with in 30 days.

    • How did you do? Do they refer to any info? Thanks

      • +3

hi, I just asked my wife to buy it for me while she was in highpoint, as it say's on this deal and the guys over there sells it to my wife so there's no problem I think.

        • Can you confirm if she got just new starter pack or a voucher number with a normal starter pack?

    • Maybe deal is VIC only?

      • not sure
