    • What did you say?but the sounds of the comments, most are unaware of the deal.

this was my message to my wife, please buy "optus epic value 365 days expiry 60GB inclusion for $120", and she got one for me.

    • +2

I think the staff doesn't know the promotion untill they scan the pack, which will show $120

  • Anyone get this deal in WA?

    • +2

Yes. PErth CBD Murray St is honouring the said deal. Package is as discussed here but 365 Days prepaid plan.

      • Does the package actually say 365 days? The Optus shop in Cannington only has 6 months.

        • Guy in Optus said it's 365 once you activate as said here. Picked up 2 today

  • +4

Just purchased some at the George St store next to Apple (Sydney)
Non available at the Pitt Street one

    • Just went to find it at George Street next to Apple store but looks like they sold out already you guys are fast! The Optus rep also went to see if any more is at the back but no go.

  • this plan seems like a no-brainer as I was going to renew aldi mobile $99 for 365day 12Gb tomorrow.
is the optus network better nowadays cf aldi/telstra?

    • +1

Aldi is second tier telstra so yes, optus is better.

      • Telstra Wholesale reaches 98.8% of the population. Optus reaches 98.5% of the population. Both reach 96.5% of the population on 4G. Added to that, I find Optus' data speeds inconsistent although maximum speeds are higher than Telstra Wholesale.

      • -1

lol, no chance Optus can beat second tier Telstra, third one, hmm probably

    • +1

My experience is that Telstra (even resellers ones - i.e. Aldi, Boost, Belong) is better than Optus. In my office building, in the lifts and areas close to lifts, Optus and Vodafone have no reception. Only Telstra works.

      • +1

My experience with telstra 2nd tier is the opposite but im not in an office in the cbd.

    • the optus network coverage sucks, to be frank. I live in a hilly area, and there are often spots with completely zero coverage. Only 40km from Melbourne CBD. Also, on western highway between Melb>Adelaide, and Hume Hwy from Melb>Syd.. many many kilometers with zero coverage. Telstra, no problem in any of these situations.
At work, in Melb CBD in my building, zero coverage.

I'm about to move away from optus.. after over 15 years, I just can't stand it any more. It's never changed, never improved. 4G speeds when connected are fantastic, don't get me wrong, but I get zero signal so often, so I'm going to give them the flick and give Belong a go. It can't be any worse. I've seen their coverage maps (belong:telstra ~= jetstar:qantas) wrt. ownership, and the telstra wholesale network is vastly superior to optus in many areas of this country. Simply more towers.

      • Optus has blackspots in the inner North of Melbourne too, 5-10kms from the CBD. No hills for them to blame it on either ;)

  • Update.
Ashfield store has some and on the pack it said 6 months expiry but they said it should be extended to 365 days but need to activate to confirm.
I haven’t bought it yet as I still have 3 months catch connect and Amaysim waiting to be activated.
I’m afraid if I buy it and activate in the next 3 months, it will be just 6 months expiry :(

    • Just spoke to a rep and the 6 months will expire in in months.

      • Huh?

        • 6 month pack expiry will expire in 6 months.

      • So does that mean it's $120 for only 6months?

        • Correct. That is what I have been told by optus rep.

          • +1

@airforce: that makes it pretty expensive then

      • +1

That's not correct. Just purchased, activated and confirm 365 day expiry

  • -1

    365 Days

Anyone know what consumer protection one would have, if purchase and activate, then find it doesn't suit intended purpose because optus reception isn't as good as expected at home of buyer??

I am thinking to switch elderly family member to this, as she is on $10 Amaysim plan (1gb, 28 days expiry). She is quite hesitant with change, as she knows Amaysim works well where they are. But does often run out of the 1gb data before the 28 days is up. So this would be better, if I could somehow be sure that optus reception will be acceptable for her.

It would mean a $120 loss, if it doesn't work well at her home, and have to port back to Amaysim.

    • Amaysim use the optus network.

      • +1

        Amaysim use the optus network.

Thanks. I guess , that means that this optus sim should work just as good or better, than Amaysim then, at same location.
Or maybe it isn't that simple.

        • +1

yeah should be just as good

        • +1

It will work the same as amaysim… same network with no exceptions.

    • +2

Can also consider Belong on the Telstra network. $10 per month (not 28 days) for 1GB but data is shaped after the 1GB.

      • +1 belong. Easy as pie. Plus you can refer her and her you giving extra $40 credit.

        • downside is belong doesn't have roaming, not that it matters much.

aldi $99 for 12G over 365days seems more valuable that Belong $10 per month (=$120) at 1gb per month (w rollover)?

          • @stalker878: Yep. Aldi is the best value for pure $$

            • @Skinnerr: aldi is great for people who doesn't need net at all or net as back up but for low users is abit of a problem…i can see myself on 2GB but 1GB is impossible…

          • @stalker878:

            aldi $99 for 12G over 365days

If only that plan was still available (without having to take a 66mph trip)…

            • @McFly: Aren't you off by 22mph Marty?

              • @CVonC: Oops - so that's why I haven't been getting anywhen lately!

  • can these data share?

    • No, I asked

  • Got the deal for $120 as per post. There is a poster on the wall about it in the Canberra Centre store.

I haven't had prepaid before. When data runs out they recommend just signing up for the same deal again for another 60gig (if needed, as their other ones aren't the best value eg $15 for 3gig).

    • Yes

  • I am on expired Optus postpaid plan…..can I just buy this sim and transfer plans without changing numbers?

    • -1

Pretty sure you can't, as it's a starter pack you need to be either new or porting in.

    • I think your options are
      1) call customer service and switch, then recharge, can't use a starter sim this way
      2) port out and then port back with this starter sim, check your plan if there is a port out fee

      of course there is also
      3) active this on a new number

    • Yes of course you can.
You are simply changing from postpaid to prepaid.
Might be a good idea to get the guys in the shop to do it all for you when you buy the Starter pack.

  • +1

Does anyone know how long this deal is for?

    • +4

31/03/19 on poster so no hurry.

      • +5

Any chance you can please take a picture of the poster? In case any optus stores are unaware? Thank you.

        • Its already in the post

      • +4

Photo of the poster would be handy

        • Or copy of receipt.

      • it seems that need to activate within 30 days of purchase so around march is best time for me..

        • can we get this on the description? pictures describe thousand words…

        • How come the sim-card pack says 6months expiry?

          • @bidam: yeah I'm confused to. A lot of comments saying activate within 30 days to get the deal, maybe that's part of it

            • @[Deactivated]: The date shown on the card is the final date the sim can be activated, after that is it expired store stock.
"Once purchased", regardless of the date on the card, the sim must be activated within 30 days.

          • @bidam: Old Stock.
The new deal is on thier web site

      • As fas as I know, you will need to activate sim before 31/3. This deal will end on 3rd Feb according to Pitt street store in Sydney.

        • The deal ends 31/3. Pitt St staff are in fairy land

  • Anyone success buy it online?

  • +1

Picked one from 253 Bourke st, Melbourne store. Initially they said they don't have any such deal and is online only. But insisted she changed with manager.

    Walked out with a pack.

Had 2020 expiry of anyone interested

    • The expiry is 2020, but the offer of 365 life instead of 180 days expires earlier. Suggested as 31/03/2019.

      • The pack i got say $180, 60GB data and 365 Days Expiry
SIM Activated and added under my existing optus login.

    • can you please DM me a receipt? as I am at Knox store (3152) and staff saying the same thing… we are not aware, it's only online deal, etc. I appreciate your help here…

    • I was there around the same time and was told it was out of stock.

  • +3

    Optus .. Oh Please Totally Useless Service .. never again .. :-( .. !!

    • Droptus…

  • Thanks for the post. I went to an Optus shop and got myself a starter pack. Optus staff confirmed it will be 365 days expiry, not 180 as per their brochure etc.

  • is this $180 starter pack on sales for $120?

    • Yes

  • I still got Aldi $99 12gb which hasn’t been activated yet. Do we have to activate this within 30 days of purchases otherwise they expire 6 months instead of a year correct?

    • Do we have to activate this within 30 days of purchases?

      i wonder about this aswell…

  • alot of staff will don't know about this….

  • +2

Can you use data pool on this?

  • +3

The following PDF explains this deal:

    https://smb.optus.com.au/opfiles/Shop/All/cis/Cis%20Document…

If you cannot be bothered reading, below is the summary:

    • Optus want you to activate this within 30 days because they can change this deal at any time (but they are certain it won't change within the next 30 days or so). Refer to very last paragraph in page 2.
    • The $180 option states 356 days. Some of the packs people purchased has 180 days written on it probably because it was 180 days before the most recent change made by Optus.

Problem is that I cannot find any date on the document. So, if you want to be safe, activate within 30 days. If you want to gamble that Optus will keep this deal for a while (if you think about when this deal expires - end of March), then you can activate it later (i.e. before end of April). If you are still concerned, then simple - don't buy.

    • " Plans may no longer be available if you do not
activate your SIM within 30 days of purchase"

from PDF link it seems need to activate within 30 days…currently my household on lebara expire near end of April and hope this deal still going by march…

      • Optus would want to activate a.s.a.p. However, if you think about it, this deal is going to be available till end of March. If you are scared, activate it within 30 days.

It is possible to interpret it in many ways. One possible explanation is the other plans in the deals could expire / change soon. Telcos change their mobile plans all the time.

        • thanks, deal updated - it's their standard/usual disclaimer on all prepaid CIS, the date of them is always given at the end of the document in the footer, in this case, 1415561_CIS_Optus Prepaid Epic Value_1218 i.e. December 2018 :)

  • Bought it from Nth Syd, no issues, expire in Oct 2020. But it has to be stick on a new number.

    • No port in number at all?

      • You can port in.

        • how would you go about porting into this deal.

Currently with vodafone and finishing contract in about 2 months.

          • +1

            @bidam:

            1. If you don't know your exact billing cycle, contact Vodafone to get all the details (i.e. when they will bill you for the final month of the contract - normally, they bill you 1 month in advance). Find out whether there is any dodgy exit / termination clause (i.e. you need to give them advance notice).
            2. Analyse the situation and find the best date to perform the switch (normally, it is a day or two before they bill you for the next monthly cycle). Another alternative is arrange a switch with Vodafone so that once your contract ends, they move you to Vodafone prepaid with zero credit - if you can afford not to have phone and mobile Internet.
            3. When you are ready to switch, either activate Optus prepaid online or call Optus. For online-activation, call the number:
              https://www.optus.com.au/customercentre/activateprepaid
  • I picked up card in store says "take me to the counter" , for $180 $120 . But it says 60gb , 6 months expiry unlimited calls/texts .
    Card says expiry 31/3/19 .
I picked up a few cards/advertising papers with deal, in the hope to give them to others to get the price. Not sure if it would work, just give them the paper and get the price.

I'm confused why the advertising paper slip says "6 months expiry" though . Has it changed to 12 months now, same deal ?

    • Did they print you a receipt? Should state 365 Days Voice SIM - I suspect they adjust it in their PC terminal to make it to 365 days prepaid plan.

    • +2

Based on this: https://smb.optus.com.au/opfiles/Shop/All/cis/Cis%20Document…, Optus recently introduced / changed the $180 plan to have plan expiry changed from 6 to 12 months.

31/3/19 means it is an old pack and also explains why Optus decided to make the change - $180 for 6 months on Optarse is so unattractive people just don't want it. You will need to activate it soon though as I found expired Optus SIM are completely useless.

      • 31/3/19 means it is an old pack

This was date on the slip of paper in store, that you take to shop attendant then they get the actual sim from out back. The actual sim pack expiry is 2020.

I think you are right about $180 for 6 months not being enticing to customers. We may have a situation with this, where pricing is still at 6 month drop (down to $120) but the actual deal is 365 dats now.
If anyone wants one, I would get in quick, as seems like a pricing error kind of thing.
Pack I bought said 6 months, guy in store assured me its changed to 12 months.
Maybe only the old '6 month' starter kits can be sold at $120.

  • Just ported my number to Optus, even though the prepaid package showing 6 months expiry, but it is for 365 days upon activation.
I am waiting my optus service to be active now.

    • Yes you are correct , I bought the same my school kid , 365 days

This is the link of their website
      http://offer.optus.com.au/shop/prepaid/sim-card/180-sim?_ga=…

      • Same here, thinking of porting the other 2 numbers, however with breaking the contract fees ect,
end up with the same cost but with more monthly data allowance. currently on $15 with 2.5GB

    • I'm with vodafone. How do you go about porting into this deal (excuse my ignorance, have never ported)
