      • I'm also on Optus prepaid already. If I want to keep my number, is it 'easier' to port to a different provider with a cheap $2 sim and port back into Optus? Apparently its more difficult to retain number Optus to Optus.

        Any insights appreciated

        • From my comment below:

I was already on the Epic Value Prepaid Plan (same plan as this SIM). Called NorthPark (SA) store in the morning and asked if I was eligible for this promotion, was basically told no. Went in person later that evening, asked again and was told yes. I kept my old number and was in and out in 10 minutes.

I realise your comment is a week old and you've probably done it by now, but my father had an expired 12 month Coles Mobile prepaid plan.

Went into store and even though his account came up on their system as an "Optus" account holder, he couldn't port his number across to the new Optus $120 plan using the in-store sign-up tooling.

The guy at the store seemed surprised and after 15 minutes of phone calls apparently it was something that couldn't be done in store, but whoever he was talking to on the Optus mothership was able to do it for him.

@Spun: Spent almost an hour in store today and was told they were unable to Port from Coles Mobile to Optus. Came up in their system as already with Optus. They rang various people but no go and suggested I port to someone else first Voda, Telstra etc then come back.

Cant be bothered with this runaround so Ive just gone to Kogan Mobile instead

  • Got 2 from Strathfield plaza Optus store today and they insisted me to activate but said I will activate myself online.
They asked my DL and entered in system before gave it to me.It seems they have plenty of stock but kept inside the drawer.
It says $180 for 60gb and 6 months expiry but scanned as 365 days and charged $120 each.I have to activate next month around 15th as my catch connect finish.Hopefully it works. Can anyone guide me how to activate and port online.Thanks.

    • Go online and answer the questions. make sure you tick PORTING

  • I bought one today - no issues - Ported in store and was very quick. My Previous Telstra Long life only had a few days left before it expired.
AS already mentioned the pack say 6 months / $180 but I was told the expiry is 365 days and $120

I don't get it why Optus store staff want to activate it for you straight away.

    • I wonder if they get more of a commission if they do that?

  • Looking at getting two or three dozen of these for field work for the biz…. I called an Optus store and they said it will take about 5 biz days to get them in. Seeming everyone is going bananas over this deal :)

  • Does anybody know of Melbourne CBD Optus stores that have this in stock? Went to 4 different stores multiple times over the past two weeks and I always get told that they don’t have stock

    • I got mine from Bourke St store end of Jan

    Thank you very much op.
I managed to get two from parkmore shopping center in keysborough, the sales person knew exactly what i was talking about and told me that they sold heaps as the deal is posted in a bargain website lol
He ported me out from amaysim (took about 20 minutes), also said they have heaps of stock and laughed outloud when i told him waverly gardens staff had no idea.

    • I went there in the end of Jan. A young guy told me the offer valid till Feb 4. Do you have any idea from the staff when the last day of the offer is?

Thanks OP, told my mother in law about this - she went in store to be told it's not available in store, I went in a couple of days later to be told "yeah, no problem".

    Elderly problems.

  • Transferred over from TPG but disappointed Optus don't have Visual Voicemail feature.

  • man this plan has terrible reception in syndey

To those who haven't bought this pack, Boost mobile will shortly release two 365 days prepaid plan, $150 for 80Gb + unlimitled national call + unlimited selected contries intanational call. or $300 for 240Gb + unlimitled national call + unlimited selected contries intanational call.

    • anything to support your claim?

I have this pack in my hand, this will be updated in their website in few days

        • Full telstra access? then it's a really good deal. thanks.

Just a reminder that this deal runs out at the end of March unless extended by Optus.
It might even appear online again for a short period of time before this promo expires.

Hence you need to have purchased the SIM and activated by 31 March 2019 to be certain of qualifying for this promotion.

Id suggest the BOOST MOBILE 80GB 365 day prepaid plan is a great alternative

With Boost the everyday price for thier 365 day prepaid plan with 80GB data PLUS international calls and SMS to 35 countries PLUS unlimited Apple Music streaming for just just $150

    See here:
    https://boost.com.au/shop/150-prepaid/

    • I bought one in Jan and just activated it today. You reckon it'd be risky buying before the deal ends but not activating until May (when my current plan runs out..)?

  • Activated and ported my number at 1:30ish today. Cannot make any outgoing calls, texts or mobile usage because of "insufficient credit". Is there something I missed? I can receive texts and calls but can't send anything out. Also says it'll expire in 2 days..

    • try restarting your phone

      • had to call up optus and get it fixed instead. turns out the tools at the optus store set up my sim incorrectly.

Just bought a sim at the Optus store on George St in Sydney

    I ported online
    Very Straight forward process.

Activated the new Optus SIM at about 7.30am on a Friday morning and the port (from Kogan) was completed by about 10.45am. So well over 3 hours. That is TERRIBLE!

Must say Optus is VERY, VERY SLOW with porting.

Also the process was very hotch potch

Got a message on the new Optus SIM saying the SIM is now active.
(New SIM was in a 2nd phone to avoid any confusion here)

But still receivinbg calls on the old Kogan SIM. How weird!
Meanwhilke I could make calls from the new Optus SIM.

This continued for about 15 mins.

Finally the process was completed and the old SIm said NO SERVICE.

I just grabbed one of these from the Rundle Mall store in Adelaide.

I got them to port my number in store from Amaysim. The process was completed in store at approx 12:30 and by 12:45 the new service was active. Pleasantly surprised given all the reports of slow porting.

  • Anyone bought one recently? Are these still available in store?

    • bought instore today at optus colonades in adelaide…the guy we dealt with set it up in store for us while we waited..

  • If I go overseas with this plan will I be able to receive SMS messages? I only need to receive SMS messages from my bank for verification codes. Don't need to send messages or use data. Will I have to pay for a roaming pack or will incoming SMS messages still work fine overseas?

    • I always buy prepaid Optus sims before heading overseas for the same purpose, in my experience yes it will still work :) I last did this in November 2018.

  • Went to Optus Chadstone, they didn't want to sell the starter pack to me unless I activate it in store. I refused and walk out the store and went to other shop instead. What a pathetic customer service!

    • Bourke St offered me the choice of activating it in store. I just said a family member was visiting in a week and that i'd do it myself, no issues buying one.

  • Finally activating my sim i bought in January, here's hoping it works. During the check out the right plan showed up, so I think it will be OK, just a matter of porting..!

Got one on Friday in the Optus store on George str. Shows up as full price on their in store tablets, but the discount appears after scanning the sim. The store assistant was happy for me to activate it at home. When asked, she said that we should activate by the date printed on the sim pack. I'll probably activate it within 30 days just in case.

    • I've been told by North Sydney store staff that I have to activate it by 31 March.(not within 30 days). I then asked if I can activate it on 31st right before midnight - he said it's better to do on 30th, as the deal might not work after… I really want to activate it later, on 10 April.

Could you double check with the George St store that activation after 30 March is fine?

    been to hell and back.

bought instore and went to activate last night before bed- errors occurred. tried 4 times.

woke up today, nothing. then today was on the phone for 30 minutes with CSR at 8am.

by 2:30pm nothing had happened with my phone so got on live chat.
took me 30 more minutes - finally it was activated but the CSR from this morning put me on the wrong plan.

back to chat again - 40 minutes.
spoke to someone who took 15 minutes to decide to put me through to someone else as he couldn't help me.

told next person that I had been put on EPIC data 28 day plan instead of EPIC value 365 day plan incorrectly.
.. took him another 15 minutes. Now my phone's data has gone to 0gb and 28 days to expire…

    let's see what happens!

would rather go to the dentist and get a lobotomy.

    • +1

If Optus CSR's get something right it is usually an accident.

Took them 1 week to sort mine out(yes SEVEN FREAKING DAYS!), was an absolute Trainwreck!

  • Anyone ported in from Vaya or Amaysim or another Optus Prepaid Carrier?

Some of the earlier posts say that you won't be able to do so since they are all on the Optus network already, and you have to port in from another carrier that isn't using Optus? Is that the case or not?

  • Did anyone know if I can buy today, but activate another day? I know today is the last day to buy, but I wanted to make sure that just buying the sim card will guarantee I get the deal when I want to actually activate it

    • Could you ask in the shop?
When I bought mine they said I have to activate online on 30 March, not even on 31st. So I did last night and now porting is pending due to "If you're keeping your number and moving from another service provider, activation may take up to 24 hours." as it happens during business hours (mon-fri)

      • Same.

This is my second port in. The first one happened instantly a few weeks ago. This second one is taking much longer.

Where are you porting in from?

        • I got mine last friday. I ported from Jeene, however when i spoke to optus last night they said the person in the store forgot to port my number accross >:( so they said they will do it monday

        • Kogan

          • @alexshel: has your port completed yet? It is past 24 hours…

Edit: Just re-read your post and it says it only happens Mon-Fri. Thought they did porting till 6pm on Saturday too?

            • @JHoliday: No, nothing has happened yet. 24hrs will be at 23:55 😊
Yes, they also work on Saturdays actually.

              • @alexshel: Porting on Saturday is between 10 AM to 6 PM only. There is no porting on Sunday. Since you did it on Saturday at 11.55 PM your port can't commence until Monday 8 AM.

I wonder if this means you can't get the offer, since it will expire tonight and your port won't be processed until tomorrow.

  • Looks like today is the end of the promo….

Question : if I go to an optus store today and purchase the sim, can I postpone activation for a period of time, say a month later until the current deal expires?

    • Anyone have a reply for this as time is running out.

    • The best is to ask a question at the Optus store.

      • I did ask and got conflicting answers.

        • Same here, I also asked in the store and the employee had no idea.
