Doesn’t that only come with 3GB?

        • @kev98: Click on the link 15GB also part of super spring saver sale

        • No dupe. Well at least not according to the thread deal title.

        • @hollykryten: it is a dupe!

        • @theone4u:

If it was a dupe then this deal thread would have been removed days ago.

        • @hollykryten: the wording is different but same same man, it's really common sense, the link takes you to the same location and same details, unless the separate information is really necessary.

Why have 2 pages for the spring deal when having one is sufficient.

I switched from Telstra $50 plan (12 gb) to this plan. So far no differences on connection in Sydney CBD. Glad I saved myself 20 bux per month.

    • I can't believe I'm saying this but I actually have better speed on mobile data and a stronger signal on optus I switched too

  • +11

My chats with Optus customer service read like a Fawlty Towers script. On 22 Sept, I started the process to switch to this pricing on the last deal. Multiple hours in chat, multiple different stories. Still not fully sorted.

I persisted because I am OzB to the core. I will prevail but it was unbelievably hard.

    • I'm in the same boat. Started my 'process' on Oct 5th…still not active. Totally against my Ozbargain instinct, but I would avoid this if it was free!

      • Same boat… They are truly hopeless.. got there after 5 chats and 2 phone calls.. sorted for 12 months i guess but wow it was painful

        • +3

I have a feeling that their outsourced customer service staff gets paid by the time they spend on the phone and not number problems solved or quality of the service.

    • I'll add that it took me at least 16hrs of online chats and phone calls to get my deal too with the epl offer. I even had the link to sign up.. I have no idea why they made it so hard! They are truly hopeless with customer service. I really wish I didn't leave jeenee.

      • I had similar problem last year. Applied online, then followed up two days later and the online chat fixed it up.

A couple of months later I discovered that this caused two credit checks against my name, which Optus refused to correct.

I'm pretty sure their online form is useless.

    • +1

      Mate, you and me both.
This will be my third attempt to obtain this deal. First by phone, second via live chat, and now I'll just purchase online to see what happens.
They have records of the other two attempts to switch to a plan, but aren't sure why it's not happening.
But at this point I don't really care because I have a brand new S8 out of them for free.
That's right… FREE! Because they never activated/switched me to a 24m contract when they were doing the friends and family back in April/May!

      I'll be right with you.
We haven't heard from you so we have ended the chat.

      • L😂L

    • Signed up on the same day and only got it sorted last week. I was so close to cancelling it and sign up with Telstra instead.

The worst thing is I switched from Virgin to Optus hoping the connection will be better since they use Optus lines, but instead it got worse than before.

I'd recommend to do sort out anything in store, it is way easier and quicker (though I had a bad experience once in my local store), try to avoid online chat at all cost.

      • Noooo… i'm switching from Virgin to this deal too. it's worse?

        • At least from my experience, I was on the train on blue line yesterday, lost its signal between Redfern to Rockdale.

According to my old colleague, he is receiving 3g signals at work now with Optus where it used to have 4g with virgin network.

  • I've been waiting for a deal like this. Now I need to see if they can move me to this

    • I tried and they wouldn't, even when I said I'd port out and back in. If you port out and then go to an Optus shop to re-sign you won't have to wait for a replacement SIM. Guess what I'm doing at 9am…

      • I'm chatting to them online now and they say they will do it…I'm currently on the $40/10gb plan but I'm out of contract.

        • Damn you Marilyn S!!!

        • @thebargainhunter: Unfortunately, I don't want to jump on this yet because I want to know more about the Iphone X

  • +1

What's the cheapest and most painless way to recontract onto this plan? I'm currently on the $36/m 10GB plan that is out of contract.

    • I would like to know this too.

    • Buy a $15 Woolworths SIM to port away to, then port back. If it all goes well you are off the air for about 15 minutes each way.

      • Any cheaper options? Downtime up to 2 days is acceptable. I just want to keep my existing number and get onto this $30 plan as cheaply as possible.

        • $2 telstra sim from woollies/coles?

        • Get $2 sim (Vodafone/Telstra) from Woolies/Coles…

        • @ClumpyGinger: do you need to recharge in order to activate those? I took a look but it’s not clear if $2 is the only cost :(

        • Not the Vodafone one, I used one to port from Telstra -> Vodafone -> Boost 6 months ago.

        • WARNING ! - I thought a 48hr downtime as well. I started my port on October 5th. It's still inactive and I have spoken to and recorded the employee IDs of 23 Optus Customer service reps, 3 managers, 2 bricks and store managers (who will only divert you back to the call centre). Being inactive 'with' Optus means I cant take my number elsewhere.

I have lodged an official complaint with the TIO, who have accepted it is an issue they can investigate, but they cant do anything until Oct 27.

So work on a whole month no phone service, not 48hrs, and there have been heaps of others with Optus issues lately.

If anyone has a head office Optus number I'd love to have it, as the TIO cant give it to me until Oct 27.

        • @tunzafun001:

          Who were you porting from?
Was it a postpaid or a prepaid?
          Was it under your name?
Is the Optus account under your name?
Did you provide an account number?

        • @niggard: No need to recharge.

        • @phil1311: A $2 SIM will have no data and no or minimal call credit

        • @tunzafun001:

Have you had this sorted? I've been waiting >1 week…

        • @ScrubCorps:
Nope…20 days and counting. Apparently the TIO can't issue a fine / act until the 27th.

I did walk into an Optus store and demand a working / alternate number. The manager there was a muppet, so I took over the call he was on and they gave me a $50 credit with the $2 day thing. It's now almost gone..

        • @tunzafun001:
Jesus christ mate. I just lodged a complaint as well. I'll head in store and see what I can get. I'm trying to port from Vaya and my new billing cycle started so don't know how this is all going to pan out.

        • @ScrubCorps:

          • Sorry - I should have said they gave me (ie I made it pretty clear they were giving me) an alternate number with $50 credit on the $2 a day thing. Never thought the $50 would run out before my number was sorted.
      • Just got off the phone with Optus. The guy said new services to an existing account only. Recontracting gets you on $40pm for 15GB plan.

      Chat to optus online.

      Port away to a Pre-paid plan - Cost $0
Once that is done, sign up for this offer about 4 hours later.

I did this with the Mrs Optus plan, which was out of contract.
On night shift, the Mrs suffered no disruption, no new sim required.

      • Cheers, thanks

      • I did the exact same thing earlier in the year for the family & friends 25% off, but in store.
As it was a Sunday they couldn't get the new contract working when I went back a few hours later.
Went back in on the Monday, signed up for a new phone and contract, walked out with a new S8, and hours later… nothing, still on prepaid! LoL
I've spent the last few months using $30 prepaid, tried to sign up for a plan a few times since… and finally just got this deal connected. SCORE! ;)

  • +4

I'm currently on the old plan, off contract getting 10gb/month which I think will continue indefinitely. I also get $10 from an old bundle promotion so only paying $30/month.

I looked at this deal and saw this…

After the 24 month period, you will pay $40 per month.

So the difference between this plan and the old plan is that after the contract period the monthly fee actually goes back up. Chances are there will be new promos in the future, but it's worth noting before making any changes,

  • damn i just got a woolworths recharge today for $30 and only 4gb, so this is only available for 15 days huh?

  • I'm a bit out of touch when it comes to changing service provider but if I leave Telstra for Optus can I keep my same number?

    • Yes, it's pretty easy in my limited experience

  • Good deal! My current contract runs out in one month and has early exit fees. Can I buy this now and activate in one month?

  • +2

One thing to watch, if you're porting away and then porting back: they will port you back and disconnect your original service without your permission or waiting for you to activate the new service. This left my wife and I (separately) stranded for a few hours without phone service until we could get home and pick up the SIMs the courier had delivered.

    • Happened to me when I went from Voda > Optus. As soon as startrack marked it as Delivered, phone disconnected. I'm at work and new SIM is at home.

      • OMG I had this same experience too! Was a PITA since I wasn't heading to the delivery address for 2 days, which kinda left me stranded. (Telstra porting to Optus)

  • +3

Looks like it's only for new customers… I'm also on the $40/10gb out of contract…

    • +1

See my comment below - defs possible. I just did it.

  • +2

I took up this deal last time it was up coming in from Telstra. Can I just say it was a horrible experience with no communication from Optus on how to set up the Optus Sport account, no help from 3 different chat reps when the user dashboard didn't work ( so no usage check, billing etc) , worst experience. When everything was finally working they charged me $53.32 on my first bill and the cs rep was completely unable to explain how they arrived at that amount given it is a $40 plan with a $15 free add-on for $30. Basically Optus are terrible but if you have a high tolerance for their bullshit it's a good value plan.

    • +4

Are you me? I just got a bill for $53.32, and spend a couple of hours on chat today with a CS rep. Same cluelessness as to what it entails, but they credited me $15 to make me shut up

      • +3

This happened to me as well. It was a bill shock when I received the first bill. Spent about half an hour to get the credit back. It's a horrible account management inside Optus.

    • I had the exact same problem. Luckily I had saved the chat conversation when I first signed up, in which the operator had agreed to apply the $15 credit. Once they read that they applied the credit straight away.

  • What's the cheapest way to test the Optus network?

The deal sounds good but I'm very happy with Telstra's reception around me.

    • buy a monthly prepaid.

  • +4

Good price, but practically unusable on Sydney's western train line. Switched to Telstra a few weeks ago and not looking back.

    • Agreed, Optus is next to useless on trains (East Hills line for me), Telstra miles better.

    • Not too bad on the South Line if you can tolerate having it drop out for a few seconds at stops like Redfern, Ashfield, and Yennora.

  • The CIS says you are eligible for new or re-contracting customers.
So if you have a plan Allready you should be able to swap to this. I will try tonight.

    • I quoted that and the guy just talked around it and wouldn't give me a straight answer.

  • I wonder if students can get extra discounts?

    • No. Only one discount per service.

  • -1

my 10gb 12month contract expires next year and they won't let me re-contract unless I pay a $60 cancellation fee. zz

  • I just called Optus Sales and they told me I can re-contract on 12 months sim only plan and I can do it online and keep my existing Optus number. Unfortunately, they don’t give the $20 internet discount so I am going to give this one a miss.

  • 😭 I recontracted with the 15GB for $40 last month.

Any chance they'll switch me over to this one? I haven't received a bill on my new contract yet.

    • They just told me no. I recontracted a few months back

      • Same boat as you @GregRust

But contrary to @bgktmxg, I got the deal!

        Just be nice! :)

        • +1

Hmm, you’ve given me the motivation to try again

        • @unistudent1:

I renewed my contract 2 weeks ago, onto the 15GB $40/month plan.

Called today, and they were able to apply a $10 discount/month, hence I was able to get the 15GB $30/month plan.

          Cheers!

    Nice deal, very nice.

I'm on the 25gb byo plan and I can't see myself going smaller now.

So much gearbest deals so much mbs and so little time to refresh OzB deals.

    • +1

      what's that worth per month?

      • +1

        http://www.optus.com.au/shop/mobile/phones/sim-only?SID=con:…

looks liek its still $70 month its 20gb plus a bonus of 5gb if you do it online.

with my data share sim in my entertainment tablet i get a fair share of useage out of it and also doubles as a backup plan when the family go out for dinner and the kids are getting board quickly.

  • I signed up for the EPL offer and the first bill does not get discounted to $30. They also wont give credit for next bill and chances are you won't ever get it.

  • +1

Anyone know how this online sign up works ?
I already have a blank Optus SIM from the prepaid deal last week.

Do I need to wait for SMS that says my number being ported ? or someone will ring me to validate my ID?
My Boost prepaid expires tonight, would be good if I can port to this by mid-day tomorrow :)

  • Can you bundle this deal to get another $10 off per month?

    • No. Only one discount per service. You can get only one : 25% off/Port in discount/Bundle Discount/Student or .edu discount.

  • +2

Just spoke to Optus over chat, and was informed that this was for new customers only. When I linked the CIS where it says recontracting customers, I was informed that CIS was for the $40 plan. While I tired to dispute that as its the one thats linked on the signup page, the person I chatted with kept saying the same thing.

    • -1

They are idiots. Most likely to anyone who signs up to this plan anyway, will be charged $40 a month anyway!

    • Same. There is no CIS for this plan, only $10 off for new services.

  • Sounds like a good deal. Anyone know what happens if you are already on a sim only contract? Can you change to a new one?

Also note that after 24 months this goes back to standard rates unlike other optus plans.

  • +5

OP, please state this is for NEW optus customers only.

    They wont upgrade existing customers.

You can still get it - I just got it. See my comment below.

  • +4

    Hi all,

My 2c: I have been a long term customer with Optus. Last week my 12 month contract (on a horribly expensive plan) just expired. So about 4 days ago I signed up for the same plan as above, except at $40 per month.

Today I spent an hour on the phone to see if they can put me onto this $30 plan. I went through a number of departments, but the net result was this: I spoke to customer service team in Phillipines. I talked with respect and with patience and explained my situation honestly, and as Goodwill my plan was moved to $30 per month, despite already being in a contract for the same thing at $40 pm.

Best of luck all! Thanks for sharing!
