50% off 5G Mobile Monthly Plans for 6 Months: $15 30GB, $18 50GB, $21 75GB, $24 100GB, $30 160GB @ Tangerine Mobile

641

Tangerine is doing a Black Friday thing and offering 50% off there 5G Mobile Plans for 6 months (new accounts only).
Given my inability to get the Boost 12-Month + cashback (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/929485) thing through, I'd been looking for another offer on Telstra network - acknowledging that Tangerine is on the Telstra wholesale network

Anyway, 30GB/month is more than anyone in my family needs, and at $15/month this is the cheapest Telstra MVNO offer I can find. Tangerine NBN customers can save an additional 10%.

Offers:
$15/month for 30GB
$18/month for 50GB
$21/month for 75GB
$24/month for 100GB
$30/month for 160GB

Tangerine is dead to many due to their Data breach and lack of accountability.

    • +21

Fortunately not dead to me as I wasn't with them previously.

These days a data breach is like water off a ducks back - all my data is already out there for any of Optus, Qantas, Latitude, Canva and god knows how many more.

It's hard to keep track of all the companies that has had a data breach and my data that's already out there as a result. The fact that there's seemingly major data breaches several times a year, it's the reality of living in an online society. There's also no guarantee any company I give my data to, even those with extremely robust data security controls, won't be involved in some future hack.

as if half the companies in Australia haven't had the same thing happen and responded in the same way.

boycotting due to a data breach is a slippery slope. you're gonna run out of options real quick.

Tangerine were storing card details, and had those breached. I ended up with multiple fraudulent transactions on the payment method that I used for Tangerine.

  • Can I purchase now but activate at end of the month just before my current a/c renews?

    • +4

I read in the T&C's that the SIM needs to be activated within 14 days, but the offer is open until 1-December so you can still purchase later in the month closer to your end date.

Thanks op, saw this today and somehow forgot it was Telstra network, went Felix instead, got a month to sort anyway. Cheers!

Already a customer. Have sent them a message telling them to put me on this plan or I bounce. Will report back whether I'm successful or not. Will bounce out of spite if they don't put me on this hah

    • What's your plan B if you churn?

  • +7

Cheapest shared number offer at the moment.
For all the cellular Apple Watch users.

    • $10/month. So min $25/month for 30gb and companion sim. Not bad!

  • expensive? ohh, telstra network. Changes things but not a bargain imo

    • Data banking and the data allowance at this price point is good

    • What are the better options when it comes to Telstra network though? Acknowledging that this is Telstra Wholesale too

  • Are you locked in for 6 months or can you cancel earlier?

    • No lock in contract.

  • +3

I would strongly reccomend against this company

    My experience with Tangerine Mobile

    • Postpaid billing model: Unlike prepaid plans, postpaid accounts can affect your credit score if payments are missed, which adds financial risk.

    • Limited user control: No self-service cancellation options means customers must call to cancel, which can be time-consuming and fustrating.

    • Customer service challenges: If support is slow or unhelpful, resolving issues like plan changes or billing disputes becomes a burden.

    • +3

To cancel dont you just port out?

    • +1

Can’t speak to points 2&3, but postpaid billing is a pretty standard offering from pretty much every utility company, NBN offering and/or mobile provider. Couldn’t care less about a -ve vote, but that’s a weak point to raise it on!

    • 1) and 3) are valid

But #2 is not correct. You can most definitely self cancel.

      Login -> My Services -> Select Service/Number -> Cancel Service -> Done

Just be aware that they don't do pro-rata billing, so if your new bill begins on Dec 1 and you forget to cancel on Nov 30 by 1159pm, you would technically be liable to pay for the service for the whole of December, even though the service gets cancelled immediately and you don't get to use the service for the period Dec 2-31.

  • As an existing customer, can you port out and then back to get this discounted rate?

The availability of shared number w/ Apple Watch on a Telstra MVNO at this price is pretty compelling

    • Dont many mvno have this available for watches?

  • Does anyone know if you receive texts when overseas on this network?

    • Wish to know this also, especially if you don't take up a roaming plan.

    • +1

      Yes you can

  • Is it as good as boost? Or crappy telstra network like Aldi or More?

    • +1

      Any idea when that ends?

      • Will ask the rep @tightarse

      • Would like to know also. Second this.

  • Do they have the same Voicemail features as Boost, e.g. the ability to return a call directly from voicemail, getting voicemail as MMS in addition to the standard voicemail option?
Is their reception the same as Boost?

    • Can’t help. Never been with them before and turn off voicemail on whatever provider i’m with!

  • +1

    Swapped wife and myself over.
    Thanks OP.

    • Now you are Tested and Tried

  • No eSim option?

    • The landing page says esim

    • You can select eSim when doing the checkout.
