I'd say the $30/month 15GB plan is even better.

    • +6

Ofcourse but would be useful for someone who has lite data usage. eg. One of my family member is still happy with 1.5Gb data per month

      • +2

I think that the Kogan 365-day prepaid plans are pretty good (6GB/month for less than $20/month) or Ovo or Jenee have 500MB-1.5GB/month plans for $10-15/month

        • +1

That kogan special deal has expired, right? Now the 1 year medium plan is $299.9 for 6gb means $25 per month. Yes 6gb but if I just need 3gb, this Optus is better. Any others for 3gb range?

        • @dragonindespair:

Yes, I guess if you need a plan right now, and don't mind a 12 month contract, and need exactly 3gb days, then this is not bad.

Some discussion here on prepaid mobile plans:

        • Thanks for letting us know!

      • agree! Family member is on $30 with 2G using this offer https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/294679. This one is even cheaper. Same question, anyway we can transfer into this plan?

  • Good deal! Thanks for the post

  • any process I can bypass the new service only? like go from prepaid to this. just normally their is a sneaky way of bypassing this type of stuff

    • Port out to another carrier (Telstra/Vodafone with a $2 SIM) and back in?

      • +1

Telstra sim is $0 online atm. Just had one delivered, activated and can receive calls without recharge.

        • Great find, here's the link to the deal

        • Were you able to port your number over without recharging ?

  • maybe combine with this post?

My son pays $3 more and gets 11gb, Unlimited calls and SMS with Kogan. 12 months paid in advance.

This doesn't appear to be a deal at all.

    • +7

This comes with free optus sports and the kogan one doesn't.

    • +4

      This isn't vodafone network.

Not that the optus network is anything to write home about in terms of congestion, but it mostly has better coverage.

  • It is a great deal, along with the $30 for 15GB option, but be aware of having to work hard to get your first bill reduced:

The Op of that post is a complete idiot, Jeneral Pain explains everything wrong with the bill and how it works and Op just shits in his face. Enjoy Optus not giving a shit about your ideas on how you should be billed and TIO ignoring you, reducing the first bill is near impossible.

      • +2

Ignore parts of what the OP says in that thread, and see some of the other comments. In my case, they tried to charge for Optus Sport (pro-rata plus a month in advance) in my first bill and tried to explain it off by saying I would be "refunded for it after my 12 month contract was up"!??!

After an hour of back and forth on live chat and constantly referring to my contract clearly stating Optus Sport was $0 a month for 12 months, rep admitted I shouldn't have been charged for sport at all and refunded the charges.

        • I have just signed up with them and checked with the optus guy Adam about the first bill issue you described. He promised me that it would be no extra charge even on the first month. We will see…

anyone know if i join this one, can I do roaming while overseas (and how much)? heard roaming with voda is cheap like $2 per day

  • Hey this is for family and friends of existing Optus customers only, who are not on the Optus network.
I called them and they refused to offer me this deal because I'm a direct customer, and apparently it's not for direct customers.
Too bad, I went with Amaysim instead.

    • wait why need to call? just follow the link and register/apply?

      • I had a family's worth of mobile numbers to move across … thought I'd save myself the time.

        • Is it worth to port forth and back my family of 5?

  • so anyone successfully apply this plan (via the link, online)? how long the porting number from other provider takes?

  • Someone explain what this means??? "EPL included for 12 mths & plan discount for 24 mths."

Also reading the CIS (plan ID Plan ID: 800769/10953979) there's a $25 promo w/ 3gb, so is this final discount total is $18.75? Then after 12 months become $25p/m??

Another thing in the 'Nitty Gritty' section mentions "Sign up to a new $30 My Plan Plus 12 month SIM Only ($25 promo) plan and pay only $18.75 per month for 24 months or until you recontract, change or cancel your plan. After the 24 month period, you will pay $25 per month."

Can any person explain what the heck is going on?

Final thoughts, There is a $18.75 w/3GB for 2yrs then after that it will be charged $25 right?

    • Gee if 2 years contract it's too long for me. Hmm…. I have decided to apply tomorrow but now not sure.

      • Most my phone/web services are with Optus so I'm more than fine with that :)

      • +3

It’s a one year contract, but you can continue it month-to-month at the same price for an extra 12 months. The contract termination fee is $90.

  • ok applied just now. will give update when the sim arrive, activation time, etc

    • They billed you so quick ?

      • Yes got my first bill 4 or 5 days after it went active

        • pro-rata rate though right ..or?

Merged from Optus SIM Only Plan - $18.75/Month for 5GB Data (12 Months Contract)

$30/month SIM ONLY plan - OPTUS Spring Saver 25% off bring it down to $18.75/month (12 months contract)

3GB of DATA (HOWEVER, I ASKED THEM IN THE CHAT TO BUMP UP THE DATA, AND THEY ADDED ANOTHER 2 GB = 5GB) + UNLIMITED TALK + TEXT + FREE MUSIC STREAMING

This is only an online offer and only for new customer. Great deal in my opinion if you manage to get them to add another extra 2 GB.

    • Woah, great deal!

      • Indeed!

    • Nice find.

      • It was found about a week and a half ago by some one else and deal posted on Ozbargain. OP was a bit late.

    • +2

      $30 - 25% = $22.50
      What am I missing?

      • It's currently on special for $25.

        • Cheers :)

    • So how do you actually get this offer? Can't find it on the optus website…

Can you provide a URL please?

    • SIM only plan $30/month { 3GB data + 2GB bonus data, unlimited calls and SMS/MMS } 12 months contract.

      With $5 off + 25% off.

      So it's $18.75

    • $25 with 10GB of data would be perfect :D

    • +2

Dupe. By default it's 3GB Data + 1GB bonus data.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/335332

    • The deal should link to this

      http://offer.optus.com.au/spring-saver

which is a dupe of https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/335784

The +2GB sounds like a gamble depending on who you get in the live chat

    • I tried to get the same deal via chat and was told that no customers have received the additional 2gb bump…

      • Are you an exisiting Optus customer? If so, you would not get the additional 2GB Data. It is only available for new customers.

        • No I'm a new customer. The chat rep said that the deal is for 3gb data.

        • Jason please share exactly how you requested, staff name, etc chat transcript will be good, remove your details of course. Did you apply on one first then do the chat or chat directly apply and ask for extra

        • @dragonindespair: I directly asked them upon signing up to the plan.

    • Care to share the Chat transcript please?

    • They can't do just like that ?!?

      Anyway I'm pooling w/ 4 people:)

  • First bill $33.75 not $18.75

Why company big as Optus can't even produce correct bill?

    • So you got billed $33.75 for a $30 plan. Yeah sounds like a real stuff up.

      • It is $18.75 after discount but they add Optus sport for $15. What…..

        • Did you even order the Optus sport package?.

        • @hollykryten: supposed to be free, included.

        • +1

@dragonindespair: hey man don't be disappointed yet :)
From FAQ on bottom of the link page:
"Q: WHEN WILL THE ACCESS FEE DISCOUNT BE APPLIED AND HOW LONG WILL IT LAST FOR?

A: The access fee discount will be applied by the second bill. The discount will last for 24 months."

See how that goes on next bill

"Q: HOW AND WHEN WILL I GET REIMBURSED FOR THE OPTUS SPORT SUBSCRIPTION?

A: The $15 Optus Sport subscription will be reimbursed on your bill through $5 and $10 access fee discounts and will be applied by the second bill. This will occur every month for 12 months."

        • +1

@steveclassy2: so first bill I have to pay 33.75$ then second bill 18.75$? Means on the last bill I should only pay $3.75 right? (18.75 less 15 from first bill)

        • @dragonindespair: hmm maybe, quetion them via livechat, facebook msg, or over the phone— whichever your preference. Facebook msg/Over phone is onshore support in my experience
