[Pre-Order] Samsung Galaxy S10+ (24 Mth 160GB Plan - from $109/Month) & Get Free Upgrade to 5G Version on Release @ Telstra

741

Price Drop Update
After spending a couple of hours battling Telstra online sales rep, I out-did my previous deal of $129/mth and got my wife's S10+ 128GB on $109/mth for the same 160GB XL plan, Buy-out for 24 months & eligible for 5G upgrade.

The catch is this much discount is only available if you have an existing Telstra handset that is yet to be paid off. My wife's Note 8 is still has 7 months left on the contract, which equates to about $400 of handset fee. Since her plan is $20 cheaper than mine, meaning $480 saving over two years plus she gets to shorten her contract by 7 months, I pulled the trigger and went for it.

I confirmed with the sales rep that anyone can get the $109 as long as they still have handset to pay off, regardless of the duration or value. He even asked me if any friends or family wants this deal. So if you only have a couple of months left on your contract, you can actually save quite a bit compare to $129.

Hi all, first time posting here.

Telstra is the only telco that has this Samsung 5G Free-Upgrade option.

Because Telstra stipulated the replacement 5G model is 256GB only - There is little point in getting a 512GB S10+ instead of a 128GB S10+ as Telstra will only compensate 512GB owners with a 256GB Micro SD, where you would be stuck with $10 extra per month over 24 months even after the swap.

If you are an existing customer and order through Telstra webpage, you will get $129 at check out for the XL plan with 160GB per month data allowance.

Otherwise it's $139 per month for non Telstra customers.

It is a pretty sweet deal considering the 5G is rumored to be quite a bit more expensive than the S10+ with bigger battery and screen.

About the offer

Choose the Galaxy S10+ today, then later this year when the 5G handset arrives, you can enjoy an exclusive 5G handset upgrade at no extra cost on your existing plan.

FAQ
Am I eligible for the upgrade offer if a buy a Samsung Galaxy S10e or S10?

No, the upgrade is only available on the Samsung Galaxy S10+. It is available on any consumer or small business plan, and covers Mobile, Mobile Lease and BYO plans (BYO only when a device repayment contract is taken up at the time of purchase).

            • @scuderiarmani: There’s a mandatory 30 day wait period when you port out and back in.

              • @11112007: Yeah that I avoided by simply going to another JB Hifi and not telling them. Geez people.

And even if it was, go get a Catch Connect Sim and pay minus $5.10 for that month… only makes it even better…

Here I am thinking I was on Ozbargain… hmmm

                • @scuderiarmani: Use to be able to do that. Not anymore. Went in a few weeks ago and tried the trick and they can now see when you port out.

                  • @11112007: I just did it.

Just go to another store like I did, they don't care.

  • Is a AUS stock 5g phone working in other country as well?

    • +1

Yes it will. 5G low band around the world will use similar frequencies much more compared to 3G and 4G. But of course check the country first.

5G are you all crazy? We are stuffed now for sure. We will all get fried.

  • Wowee … that's a pricy phone! At $129pm it's total cost of $3,096!

    • 80 cents per gb and you'd think at least three quarters of that will be 5g gb's
Not for me though, I'll just watch with awe from the sidelines and quietly be happy with the improved 4G LTE speeds due to ease of congestion as big users switch to the 5G signal. 2022 I might make the switch.

Bear in mind with any Telco issued phone, you may not get the Dual Sim Version. I certainly wont be getting it from telcos.

    • +1

Does any of the S10 / S10e 128 GB Australian version comes in Dual sim to buy outright from OW/ JB Hifi or any other stores with local warranty ?

BTW Woolies mobile website S10+ 512GB version description says it is hybrid sim.

      • Check Samsung website but from memory, only 512gb version is dual sim for Aus Note 9 (the first dual sim aus samsung)

        • My 128GB note 9 which i got from Officeworks is dual sim

    • Also it's just rumors for the 5G version so far… nothing firm.

      • Note X would most likely be 5G which is probably why S10 5G version is firmed for release later in the year

  • Note 10 is gonna be $150 minimum with telstra not that I will ever contract again.

    • Holy shit that's cheaper than my Sharp Aquos S2!!

  • Isn't the point of getting the 5g phone just to sell it as a brand new phone?

Don't seriously know who would want to keep it.

I guess all the Android users complaining about sheep buying $1500 phones turned into sheep themselves :p

  • No other telcos are offering 5G upgrade because Telstra is the official telco partner of the 5G Galaxy phone (they announced this morning) that is expected for mid-year release. Optus and Vodafone will probably get 5G Galaxy phone when s11 or Note10 arrives (hopefully it wont be like first two generations of Google pixel where they were Telstra exclusives for a good while.)

  • Im pretty sure you can get this upgrade on the $104 lease plan or the $114 buy plan (as its an eligible 24m plan) I cant see where the OP got the from $129 from?

    Samsung 5G Device Upgrade Option
You must purchase your S10+ on an eligible Telstra 24 month mobile or lease plan. To upgrade, you must return your S10+ in good working order up to 21 days after the 5G device becomes available. We will offer you the nearest Samsung 5G device equivalent (colours, capacity and model subject to change). Any accessories you buy or that come with your 4G device which are not compatible with the 5G device cannot be exchanged, returned or refunded when you upgrade. Offer available until withdrawn.
Telstra offers 5G in select areas and is progressively rolling it out to other areas. In non-5G coverage areas, you’ll automatically switch to our 4G/3G.

      That's 3GB/month for $104/Lease or $114/Buy

  • +1

Did they define good condition? I feel like Telstra will probably try to use that as a loop hole somehow…

    • This.

    • Your phone should be returned in good working order. A phone that is undamaged and in good working order is one that is fully functional as intended and is not physically damaged, except minor scratches and other normal wear and tear, as reasonably determined by us.

      This means the handset:

      Turns on and off;
      Functions normally (for example, it is capable of making and receiving calls and connecting to the internet and any touchscreen functions as intended);
      Includes a fully functioning battery;
      Is free from physical damage except normal wear and tear (for example, it does not have liquid damage, a cracked or discoloured screen or casing, connector damage, or a faulty or broken SIM/SD card reader);
      Does not have any missing, disassembled, customised or non-original parts;
      Has all activation and handset locking features disabled (e.g. Find My Mobile);
      IMEI is not blocked.

Basically don't drop your phone or do anything silly with it.

      • Prob best to get Stay connected added just in case…

        • You might be right. I am looking for the beefiest S10+ cases on Ebay right now. Hopefully the case gets here before the phone. A small price to pay to guarantee an upgrade.

  • +1

In case anyone was wondering Amway does not do pre orders and I have been told you have to wait untill March 8 to order the S10. The XL phone plan is currently discounted to $96.10 + $200 welcome credit + $180 Amway store credit for port in or new customers. The Samsung 10+ 128gb phone is $10 on top of the plan so that puts it at $106.10 total plus the extras. Possibly wont get the earphones as that's preorder. Hopefully Telstra wont have pulled the free upgrade to S10 5g by then too. Thinking I might wait.

    • Amway.. the MLM company?

  • Where’s the bargain?

I'm not sure why this was downvoted with no comments in reply. Unlike it's predecessors (microwave based tech), 5G utilises millimeter waves. It's basically untested from a public health perspective, requires far more towers at far closer proximity than 4G.

      • +1

5G isn't only mmWave. There is low and mid band as well.

The launch service is low band 3.6Ghz which performs very similar to LTE-A. The S10 5G with the X50 model is low band and mmWave compatible but I don't think we will see 5G mmWave for another year or so.

        Agreed on your points though.

  • +1

Surely you can lower the total cost of ownership by:

    1. Selling the preorder ear buds
    2. Selling the 5G BNIB and rebuying the S10+ which may have had at least one price drop.
    3. Re-sell phone at end of contract

Do that and you may see your monthly cost at around $85 a month.

    • Which a buy it outright can do anyway and be even further in front if they choose to upgrade in 12 months?

  • wait the p30

  • I am still under contract for $59 per month with Telstra on the Family and Friends S8 deal.

Contract expires in about 8 months.

Do Telstra still do Family and Friends offers?
Would like one on the S10 with 5G upgrade….

    • I'm on the same boat :D.

I'd like to know this as well.

    • You will never see a F&F offer for a brand new or pre-order phone. Maybe around Xmas…..

  • Ok I think I nailed this offer. Online chat. $129 lease 512gb white. In addition got $10 off on my bundle. Another 10gb data for my ipad.

So when it's time for the upgrade, I get 256gb phone and a sim to compensate the storage.

Galaxy buds included seals the deal. Very good offer.

If your like me always upgrading, tinkering with the s10+ and then getting a new phone later in the year is simply phenomenal.

    • Good Effort. Does Lease plan mean you have to hand back your 5G handset at the end of the contract?

      • Yes it does. The thing is.. I'll end up going on a new contract anyway at some point. So.. I would have to sell the phone which is a PITA on gumtree or just give it back and get a new phone. The beauty of leasing the phone is that it is only $99 after 12 months or 0$ after 18 months.

    • This on the XL plan as well? 160GB?

  • hmm idk with the likes of one plus 6t and xiaomi's new mi9 i am just about ready to give up on Samsung. have always used their devices. but now im not so sure with these prices. the newly announced mi9 is looking pretty good atm, ill wait for the global version, or the next one plus 7 which should be around the corner

    • Mi 9 is ok for a mid-range. But it has significant downsides - mostly the small battery (3300mAH) and none-OIS cameras.

  • I'm trying to see if I can get this - I'm a Telstra customer with an existing handset that hasn't been paid off yet. First chat attempt the rep said it was for pre-order only, 2nd rep couldn't see the link to this page as they're restricted in what sites they can view. Any tips on how to chat to someone that actually helped you out with this?

    • didn't work for me… tried 2x. First time rep said there was no such offer available, it was $129 for the 128gb on a lease plan, second time rep said $109 was fine, but later said it was for the 20gb plan only. =/

      • Just keep pushing them. It took me some back and forth bargaining to get to $109. And I can confirm it is definitely a buy-out on 160GB plan.

    • +1

It's random. What you can do is open multiple chat windows and see which rep is willing to give you the discount.

      • I'll do that!

      • Big thanks for the advice! Managed to score the same deal but i dont even have a service with Telstra.
EDIT: Also managed to score an additional $5 off when i signed up to the StayConnected Advanced (phone insurance)

        • Wow that is one hell of a bargain you got!
I kinda wish I could change my $129 plan into a $109 plan, but I am a bit sick of dealing with Telstra right now.

    • +2

FWIW the rep I spoke to is called Kristofer.
Maybe try spam the chat box till you get this guy?

    • I tried 3 reps and both say there is no such offer for $109/mth :(

    • I tried multiple reps and the only deal they said they had was to add an additional 5GB on mobile plans so long as it's not on XL and Ultimate plan.

      • Took me like 6-7 goes but finally got it from a rep called Emma. This was around 4pm on a Friday

    • i am in a similar boat. im eligible to upgrade phones next month for $99 fee.
ive offered to pay my last month's charge in advance and the $99 upgrade fee in advance and return my S9 in good working order
so i can preorder the S10+ now. spoke to 3 chat reps and they all say no possible way.
i was always on cycle for the new release of the galaxys until last year when they released the S9 a month earlier
      in march.

  • Do we know when this offer will end?

  • S10+ is out of stock. Will have to wait until 2nd shipment for any orders

  • I tried but they only offered a prism for that price. Will probably just move to Woolworths. Been on 12gb for $115 for s8+, so clearly don't value the fact I got ripped and accepted it.

  • +1

Anyone know if you can change from lease to buy?Ordered it on lease by accident

  • When asking about the device payout was told it is only on offer for contracts on month 22,23,24. I'm on month 20, or 21 end of next week and they said they can rebate 50% of device payout or around $100 credit, so in effect another month of service. Also no go at $109 :(

  • Do you have to speak to a rep to get the 109 price? I don't see how you get it on that site. My partner has 9 months to go on her Telstra contract. We're only seeing 139.

    • Yeah i had to jump onto the chat to organize the discount

      • Do you have to pay out your remaining contract?

        • Nop im coming from Optus

          • @rakkihizoku: Did you get $109 a month or $139?

I thought the $109 is only for people with an existing Telstra contract?

            • +1

@lostn: I got mine for $109 with 160GB Buy plan. Not sure, i basically asked the chat to match it and they did it. Did take me like 6 attempts at the chat though.

              • @rakkihizoku: Well done. I guess if you don't succeed the first time, try again.

  • Is there a way to get a second sim, cheap monthly fee, to share data?

    • Probably just chat to a rep on live chat and ask about it

    • Telstra don't do data share anymore. I have asked in-store and on chat multiple times.

      • +1

        Only on business plans.

  • Will you be able to use the second SIM slot with a SIM card from another provider? And will there be a logo of telstra showing up when booting the phone? I had never bought a contract phone before and one of my friend who bought a Huawei Mate 10 from optus says the other SIM slot was physcially blocked (not even be able to use SD cards) and having an Optus logo every time he turn on the phone.

    • +1

If you're buying the phone from a carrier it will not come with dual-SIM.

Only unlocked/outright 512GB/1TB models are dual SIM capable.

  • +2

Can anyone please provide receipt or chat log? You can redact names and stuff

  • I Applied for this deal on Friday 22/2 and got knocked back. Was offered 119 for XL plan and 103 for 30GB plan with peace of mind enabled.
I cancelled because i changed my mind From Black Prism to White..They cannot match the deal anymore :( .. Will Try live chat again..

On another note.. i was on live chat and asked them if they do any special or discounts if i have an edu email address..
Turns out they do.. Saved $10 each from both my numbers/plans. did not need to provide any extra infos :).

  • Here's a screenshot of my estimated costs which details my plan/discounts to get to $109 hopefully might help someone negotiate a deal:

    https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/115370/67246/screensho…

    • is that the XL plan?

      • Yep XL buy plan 160GB

        • that's crazy! you have $35 additional discounting. nice work!
you were an existing customer out of contract?

  • just tried to order at $129 and they were like no we don't offer discounts

  • Just got an email saying mine has been shipped. And anticipated date to get here is the 6th

    • have you received yet? what's included in box?

  • telstra let me cancle my plan 2+ months early to let me pre order s10+ with a 10$ discount per month. (i also had this discount on my S8+)

I was about to move to Optus for cheaper plans + bigger data.

Only reason why im staying is because of this 5g phone offer.

i don't even care about the 5g honestly its the bigger screen (6.7" and 4500mah battery)

Effectively your buying a $1500 phone and getting a free upgrade to a $2500 phone in a few months.

ps. i got the $119 Buy plan S10+, with discount it comes to $109

    • i doubt the 5G phone will be $2500RRP

      • yeah im just guessing the RRP but hey its a free upgrade…

like buying a WRX and in few months they give you a STI :)

    • I try my luck today and got $20 discount on M plan @ $99/month. I port over from Optus and got to pay $50 penatly fee.

    • did u guys also grab the $10 a month assure deal where u replace the phone for 190 if it breaks for whatever reason?

      • Yes i got insurance this time also only until the 5g phone releases

    • how did you get them to let you cancel early? ive been trying to get them to let me upgrade early and pay the upgrade fee. but they are not budging
