I think that both Tiger and Jetstar should rate their flights by 'potential for delay / cancellation'.
Or do they do that indirectly via their pricing model?

Agreed. I have been stung twice by Tiger who cancelled my flights in recent times. Never again.
I have never had a cancellation from Jetstar.

It goes up and down but Jetstar had the lowest cancellation percentage of all airlines for 2017-18:

      https://bitre.gov.au/statistics/aviation/otp_annual.aspx

Departures on time were not great but Tiger is worse on both metrics.

      • An interesting read. As mentioned on that site, performances vary across different routes; perhaps I've just been unlucky or wrong place / wrong time. I witnessed a Jetstar flight where passengers had been 'delayed' >24 hours (LST to SYD) recently.

There are so many different views about airline performance measures:
        - Departure on time:
I wonder if these are measured as push-back from the gate, or actual take-off?

        • Arrival on time:
I wonder how this is measured? Is it landing on tarmac, or unloading at gate, etc.?

As a passenger, I'm not too bothered when we leave, I just want to (safely) get where I paid to go and off the plane as quickly as possible.

        • I fly Jetstar 3-4 times a year. They were terrible, especially for international flights, before 2011-12 but they've improved a lot since then. It might not be a coincidence that my only cancellation since 2011 was LST too.
