It is pretty crap for identifying Australia plants. I bought it at full price and it just hasn’t been able to identify a lot of the weeds and plants that I have tried. Sadly. I had great hopes.

            • +2

@alvinmk: soliciting for votes is against OzBargain rules.

          • @jv: That day has come 👌

        • +1

          @jv is the
          cog that OzBargain revolves around.

    • if you have bought at full price, request you to please submit a review in App/Play Store. Would be helpful to others.

Not a huge surprise really. Unless this app walks you through a dichotomous key specific to the area that you find the plant in and gets you to identify leaf shape, number of flowers on inflorescences, presence of sap, smell when the leaf is crushed, presence of oil glands on leaves etc. etc. I'm guessing that this app just does a reverse image search and identifies things based on overall appearance.

For Australian plants like Acacias, Eucalypts, Corymbias etc. sometimes the only way you can separate one species from another is by dissecting the fruit and putting it under a microscope. Acacias often have different leaf shapes when they're immature vs. full grown so that's another important thing that you have to identify so that you don't immediately start off down the wrong classification path.

      • These apps are good for beginners who are learning to identify. It's still very tough, even just trying to find the Genus of a plant, good luck finding the species.

    • Developer from Vietnam, many kinds of plants in Australia don’t exist in Vietnam, probably he couldn’t add them into database.
Using the app for fun, can’t trust it

  • Just gave it a test run with a few fruit trees and plants. Fairly accurate , only got a couple wrong.

    • +1

Only a couple wrong? If you sampled it on 4 plants, that would make it 50% accurate.

    • +4

You tested it on a few and it got a couple wrong. I wouldn't call that fairly accurate.

      • +1

Especially if you are in the middle of nowhere and trying to get some berries.

        • Lying on the ground tripping out, holding your stomach "Damn that fairly accurate app"

  • +3

Try PictureThis app, it is free and quite good to use in OZ

    • Seems to only give you a few 'free IDs' though?

  • +3

Hmmm… Only 8 reviews/ratings, and they all look to be fakes.

  • Worked for me on the few plants I tried - the price is right

  • is this on special or just the free version?

  • +2
    • Thanks very much for that link(and to BA)

Heaps of reviews with wildly (LOL) different values. Many sensible improvement suggestions seemingly without author response which is poor.

Seems to need access to phone call data (as well as access to items that make sense) which is a bit strange.

Cannot test as phone battery is flat.

  • +3

Does this work better than the SeeFood app?

    • +2

Not really, all I am getting is "eucalyptus" and "not eucalyptus"

      • +2

Mine's just giving me eight ways to cook octopus. From someone called Jian Yang?

        • +1

This app does only "Hot Dog"? ………No and "Not Hot Dog"!

  • Can Google lens do the same?

    • According to my mate, yes, and better.

  • +1

Can it tell the difference between natural pot and hydro?

  • +1

I would not bother to mention 5 star rating for an app that has only 8 ratings left…

  • To identify a plant you simply need to simply have an iPhone. Damn

  • Can it identify hotdogs?

    • +1

He doesn't like to be called Hotdogs anymore. Just call him Simon Deering.

  • To simply identify a simple plant you simply need to simply snap a simple photo of the simple plant, and the simple app will simply tell you simply what it is in a matter of seconds!
