The CPU model is i7-8700, not i7-9700K

    • think your looking at the wrong one - PROCESSOR
      9th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-9700K 8-Core Processor (12M Cache, up to 4.9 GHz)

When I saw that picture, I thought it was a phone! :) It will be true in 10 years time

    • I was thinking… Apple might sue Dell cos this looks like an IPhone :P

But.. why? There are often pre-built desktops with RTX2080 for significantly less

Who cares if it's a dell. Pfft.

The laptop I have no opinion on.

I'm in the market for a new comp! Do you have any links to RTX2080 builds less than $2.2k?

        • +1

hmmm no OS no HDD storage, CPU on different tiers, no speed on RAM, no brands provided, no speeds on SSD, just feels like there's too many corners that can be cut. Comes with a gaming monitor though (Allied brand?)

I'm not saying Dell is better (they're not and full of crapware) but its a bit clearer on what you're getting, esp the Alienware ones.

I saw the offerings by Dell above and was not impressed either, the only thing worthwhile seem to be their RTX2070 but the rest of their specs seems fairly lacklustre as well.

          • @lawyerz: Oh my bad, thought you were genuinely looking for a 2080 pc not trying to find something on par with the dell offer.

            • +2

@Iam12: oh no sorry, I meant I'm kinda looking for a full build. RTX2080 would be fantastic with a full build under 2.2k but i havent found any. it seems at that price points its rtx2070.

I'm not an expert by any means, I'm just in the research phase now. Thanks for linking, though!

Reading reviews, it does seem they do cut corners in order to meet that price points: https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2736800

The PSU/SSD/HDD are either going to be no name, or refurb.
              System I bought had a no-name 500w PSU, no-name motherboard, no-name SSD, and a refurbished HDD.
The case was incredibly cheap too, very easy to bend/dent.
I would be cautious, they are cheap for a reason.

              • @lawyerz: Definitely agree with you. Out of my price range but I would much rather get a solid mobo thats upgradable to 64 ram, fast nvme ssd and rest of the components a bit slower if it meant solid reviews and build quality.

Techfast is a bit like putting a 300kw engine in a hyundai i30 while keeping brakes, gearbox etc. standard

          • -1

@lawyerz: Techfast provide a list of brands but don't guarantee which you'll get. Frankly you're not going to get any worse than dell branded OEM parts anyway.

If you want to upgrade anything you can, just ask them. Seriously, 1tb + OS, it's going to be cheaper and better than Dell's offer which even at the same price would have a generation old GPU! The value proposition alone on the GPU is huge, RTX2080 aren't anywhere near as cheap as 1080.

The Ryzen variant linked above is $1600 not $1700 (just FYI. But I'd be going intel)

Heck, techfast could probably swap that RTX2080 for a 1080 and give you the other upgrades if you really want :p

            • @justtoreply: Not sure which idiot is negging, if you're that dumb then go buy the dell instead of customising a techfast build for the same $2200 and getting the better gpu for nix.

              • @justtoreply: None of you should have got negged - I often don't understand ozbargain users. I'm on a dell now and it was an awesome deal about 4 years ago. Like all big names they have a lot of bloatware etc, but at least you know there are no issues with drivers and hardware; they are fairly well tested before rolling out. Also, the hard disk died just before the year was up. I had to send it back but it was at their cost. They replaced the hard drive. I'd spent a load of time getting rid of bloatware - figuring out what was needed and what wasn't. I don't think there is anything dell software left on it now. I got rid of the rescue partition and create my own current images every now and then for disaster recovery. It's the same with hp systems and phones in general though. If you ever need to troubleshoot there's always good info too, because the builds are fairly well documented. But maybe all systems these days are rock solid. I would buy dell again, when there's a good deal on :)

  • Can't tell which is the best of the 3 similarly priced desktops. The XPS looks the nicest and has an updated CPU, but R8 has an updated GPU. Seems quite fairly priced.

  • HI Guys,

I am split between this alienware 15 r3 laptop and the g5 with better cpu of 8300h but 8gb ram, 5400rpm hardisk, and 1060 instead of 1070, but it is a good almost 500 bucks cheaper. If i upgrade the ram to match it the same brings the price difference of only 270 bucks. Is it worth it for this alienware?

    • Worth it. $270 for a GPU upgrade and SSD.

The 7700HQ is equal to the 8300H.
