    • Agree, when I saw the Aldi one I assumed I'd find the equivalent model on aliexpress for $20. I think I found two and the cheapest was $90!

    • China hasn't seen the market to mass produce yet.
It's only a matter of time before AliExpress etc are flooded with them. Cycliq is way overpriced and under performing but hasn't been many options.

  • While I'm not interested in the bike, I like that Aldi got a third party review done on it. It can be a mixed bag with Aldi, and returns can be a pain for larger items, so it's cool to be able to read a review before hand.

    • Luckily you can ride this one back to ALDI when you return it.

  • Free transport for a month

  • Ride bike for 2 months take back and get refund.

I found some more info in this blog post when I looked up who entity is.
    http://www.entitycycling.com/e100-featured-on-aldi-ebike

Sounds like a good deal to me. Has lots of info on parts as well. But I'm no bike expert…

  • Looks like a custom brand for Aldi, cant find many reviews. Not sure if it is based on another technology or how to do firmware updates?

I'll probably pick one up in the meantime while I'm waiting for VIC to relax the e-scooter laws. Not sure how vic govt sees it as safe for cars to be venting toxic exhaust gasses into our streets, but not safe to ride a clean e-scooter in the bike lane.

  • The bike is 25KG??!! https://www.aldi.com.au/en/special-buys/special-buys-wed-13-…

Reviews says 21kg, which is more in line with other ebikes, although still heavier than I'd expect for a folding e-bike with a smaller battery.
    https://www.bikeradar.com/au/commuting/gear/category/bikes/f…

    • 25kg would include the box and packaging.

  • Just picked up the bike plus helmet and bike light set. They only had 5 ebikes. Too bad it is raining outside to enjoy it today.

    • Did the batteries come charged?

      • Still in the box so haven't checked yet

        • I opened mine and the monitor wouldn't come on. Plugged into charge, and it was 75% full. After a little fiddling it worked fine.

          • @zealmax: Do you have any regrets buying it or are you happy you made the purchase, I would appreciate your opinion before I open the box.

            • +1

@EarthMan: My 2 minute test ride was awesome. Managed to climb some hills, with little effort. Only regret is not getting 2.

      • Mine was charged.

First 4 of us in the door got eBikes – now all gone.

Manager said he could possibly get more from surplus at other stores if available. <G>

First impressions backed up review posted earlier.

Very adjustable, goes hard as well for a treadly….

Thought battery checker was on/of switch, nope thats on side of battery cover

Intrigued by large rubber piece like an enlarged crutch/walking stick end.

Doesn't fit bottom of frame where there is an open tube.

        Mebbe just a packing piece?

        • I took it off. Can't adjust seat with it on.

          • @zealmax: Any further comments on the quality of the bike? Similar ones online can be got for ~$1000 mark?

            • @bingsta: I am not an expert on bikes by no means, but I find the build quality to be excellent. Lots of fun to ride too.

              • @zealmax: were you able to lift the box into your car by urself or def requires 2 peeps?

                • @bingsta: I managed to load it into the car without too much effort. I am on the bottom half of the spectrum when it comes to fitness.

          • @zealmax: The rubber piece is for the seat post to sit on when folded. Bit tarded that it comes off when u raise the seat post. I like the seat post low so the piece can still fit on but risk is losing it on the road…

Just got the rear camera bike light. First impressions are very good. Come with an 8gb micro SD card which is a bonus! Has a 2600mAh lithium battery. They recommend a charge time of between 2.5 and 4.5 hours. It records on loop for 1.5 to 2 hours on the provided SD card in separate 10 minute long files. Once it reaches it limits it starts to record again over the oldest file. You can of course place in larger SD cards.

    Op times is stated as:
Camera on, light on - up to 3 hours
Camera off, light on - up to 20 hours
Camera on, light off - up to 5 hours

Output quality is good. Note the light is bigger than I expected. ABout 40 mm wide and 110mm tall but is more curved and smoother than some of the competition. I'd estimate it weighs about 160grams but can't be sure.

    • Did you get the date and time setup correctly?

The instructions talk about a "UVC" file at the root of the SD card. I created one and added the text per the example

      "2019-03-13 20:00:00"

put the card in the camera, turned it on, and….. no change to the date/time in the video

Any ideas? I'm using a Macbook

      Cheers

    • I got the camera bike light too. I weighed it at 126 grams. Chunky. The Cycliq fly6 is 110g according to their website, so not a lot of difference. The Cycliq looks smaller but by my measurements of the ALDI one, it's not that different. Looking forward to taking it for a spin. There were none on the floor at Coorparoo, Brisbane. Asked the checkout guy and he walked around to a pile of boxes behind the checkout and pulled one out for me. So seems there are heaps left as of late last night.

  • e-bike sold out in 2 minutes :(
Aldi staff member checked 22 stores in VIC, all sold out :(

  • Just got an ebike and tried it out. Noticed there is a visible joint on both the front and rear aluminium wheel frame. Anyone else have the same? Not sure if that is something I need to worry about

    • I have them on mine. Must be by design.

      • I also noticed the centre clamp that clamps the 2 halves of the frame together is not as tight as the clamp that clamps the handlebars upright, that is not to say the frame is lose, or is still tight, just that clamp is far easier to release. What is it like on yours?

  • 2 left at Rockdale at 9am

  • Any stores in Sydney still have the electric bike?

    • ALDI in Frenchs Forest (Forestway Shopping Centre) still had a few just now (probably 5-6)

      • THere were 3 left after I took one at my local (Marrickville)

  • Bought the ebike today. Store opened at 8:30AM, sold out at 8:31AM. Only had 3 in stock. So far, fairly impressed with the build quality of the bike. Just charging it now.

  • It's so ridiculous to have such a limited quantity of these products - especially to release on the Wednesday (when most people would be at work) rather than Saturday. I expect that is the only stock they will have as well. Well done to those who managed to get one of the ebikes this morning.

  • No e-bike or camera bike light at my local.

    • Is the camera bike light worth it?

      • Probably not. It is very basic, but you will not find cheaper at the moment.

Like a cheapo dashcam, but waterproof, with rear light, mounting kit, and big battery. (18650 inside?)

  • Just bought one of the rear bike cameras, heaps at my local.

I like that Kaspersky Antivirus flagged the UVC Setup File on the MicroSD as Ransomware.
Guess I'm not going to be able to change the Dates on the Camera now…

    • Can you just create a file manually with timestamp?

Would someone please check what the file created by the utility looks like, and paste here if ascii?

      • Yeh that's what I tried to do based upon this: https://www.quesh.co.uk/newsite/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/7… but looks like this is an 'older' version? as didn't work :(

Might run the exe in an sandbox and test…

          Cheers

          • @bargain lover: how did you create a UVC file?

            • @pippohippo: I just did "touch UVC", then "nano UVC" and put in the date/time on the first line

A bit of Googling and I don't see instructions for it, so could be an error in the instructions

              • @bargain lover: Sorry, I'm not following what touch or nano UVC is. I'll have another look when I get home.

My instruction book said to connect the camera with SD card to the computer but that's not even working, it just charges it…

I'm doing the time reset via a micro sd card reader.

                • @pippohippo: I put the SD card into a reader, but didn't find a UVC file, all I found was an app to play videos, VLC, and a Windows application (installer?) called UVC_Date_Sync_v1.2_Setup

Being on a Mac that's no good to me, so I thought I'll create a file called UVC manually. No luck.

Hoping someone else on the thread can help with this file

                  • @bargain lover: I did the same, but haven't even got the UVC setup app on the SD card.
Is there some way to get the setup file?

In another post BIGRIZZ says "tech support and the feedback was that they've been inundated with customers calling about the time/date sync issue. Some reporting the time is correct but the date is 2/3 years behind and others (like me) reporting the two hour time difference. Apparently it's gone back to their HO who are working on a firmware update for the camera with an ETA of 1-2 weeks".

How does one go about getting firmware updates? and where from?

Video quality during daylight seems better than the Fly6 (1st and 2nd edition) - in particular less distortion such as light poles bending over at the periphery. With a 100° viewing angle that may be because the extremes are being trimmed off.

        • +3

          Thanks Mate.
I ran it in Sandboxie and after the install got the files and zipped up.
Interestingly Antivirus didn't flag any files.. only the setup file.
So here is the "installed" version zipped up: https://ufile.io/uhbnx

          • @kaizen: Get the same error as you though… "failed to initialise the uvc extension unit"

            • @kaizen: are you also using windows 10?

              • @pippohippo: yup windows 10 64bit

                • @kaizen: okay. I'll try another windows tomorrow and see how that goes.

Also have you tried using the camera at night with the red light on? I just did and its literally all red…can barely see anything nor number plate. And a 3 minute video is 224mb…the 8gb card won't be enough…

                  • @pippohippo: Also tried it with the lights off.

Scenario 1 - no light, some street light. Passable but when there are no lights, its crap. I had a seperate rear light and barely helps unless its reflective material.

Scenario 2 - high power torch - it will blind the camera

Scenario 3 - torch to the side - works fine.

In all scenarios there were some sort of static/lines going through the recording.

                    • @pippohippo: is it worse then the cyclic fly6 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8PJ9SCYvic ?

                      • @kaizen: I was just in the frontyard (which i guess replicated an alley way scenario) - if you're getting mugged or attacked, don't rely on this camera unless you have another light source that won't blind the camera…

I'll do another test tomorrow riding to work, home, and evening on the road where there'll be cars to get a good indication of the quality.

                        • @pippohippo: Update 1 - morning ride with sun

Day time recording is fine but seeing a number plate is quite hard if you're moving fast. Not many cars this morning but it is visible at a slow pace.

          • @kaizen: shows clean except one scanner didn't like it

            https://www.virustotal.com/#/file/3468a7f0d75ddceb3457f34c8c…

            • @bargain lover: yep it's only the setup for some reason that got flagged - the one you scanned is me zipping it (after installing it in a sandbox)

          • +3

            @kaizen: Hi Kaizen,
I have been trying to get the time stamp working on mine since yesterday, I didn't have the UVC_Date_Sync file on mine at all, I downloaded your file and it worked ok.
            BTW I am running Win10/64.
Many thanks for posting the zip file.
I have saved the zip file and created some simple instructions in this dropbox folder for anyone else who wants it
            https://www.dropbox.com/sh/1v9loqj8ohszn9q/AABf2J5d-HQId0iOR…

            • @BianchiBoy: Do you need the camera connected (and on) to get this working? Or just have the SD card in the laptop

              • @bargain lover: To answer my own question… just plug the camera into your Windows laptop, the camera turns on and shows up as D drive, then follow BianchiBoy's instructions.

I also had the 3 hour time difference thing, so I took the laptop off internet time, set it manually to 3 hours ahead, set the camera time, and then went back to internet time

  • got one of the two bikes still in stock yesterday night around 20:30.
Opened up today. So far everything is just like the review said.
Pedal assist is way better than on most of the bikes I tried till now, only Xiaomi being better as it's torque based (not cadence like this one).
Motor feels pretty powerful for my weight (65kg).
The frame is sturdy. Love the brake light =)
Battery didn't work until I put the charger in, guess it was some kind of transportation protection mode, makes sense for lithium batteries.

  • @pippohippo and @kaizen, did you get the time to sync correctly? Oddly, I got sync working but it's two hours behind my computer time. Very weird. No way I can figure to change it.

    • Nope, still, a dud stuck at 2016.

What OS are you using? I have a feeling its a Windows 10 issue. Both myself and kaizen are using 64bit W10.

Also, I can't connect the camera with SD card to the computer. I'm doing it via USB card reader.

      • Same OS here.

        • Did you connect it via a card reader? phone? direct via the rear camera light?

          • +1

@pippohippo: Just to be 100% clear here as I'm not sure from the comments that we're doing the same thing. I inserted the card that came with the camera into the camera then connected the camera via the microUSB cable to my computer and browsed to the card in Windows Explorer. I found a 'UVC_Date_Sync_v1.2_Setup.exe' app on the card, which I launched to install on my PC running W10 x64. I then ran the app and it presented me with a big 'sync' button, which syncs your PC time to the camera. The time showing as the device time was exactly two hours behind my PC time.

            • @bigrizz: Doing the same thing except my computer didn't detect the camera so I tried via the card reader.

I'll try another computer with camera to see if it connects.

Thanks for your detailed steps :)

              • @pippohippo: No worries. I just got off the phone from their tech support and the feedback was that they've been inundated with customers calling about the time/date sync issue. Some reporting the time is correct but the date is 2/3 years behind and others (like me) reporting the two hour time difference. Apparently it's gone back to their HO who are working on a firmware update for the camera with an ETA of 1-2 weeks.

                • @bigrizz: I got it to connect now - great.

Except mine is 3 hours behind. Daylight saving issue? I'm based in Melbourne.

It be good if you get a notification from Tech Support to update this post :)

                  • @pippohippo: Yep, I think the camera is stuck in a particular timezone, so depending where you are, it'll pick the time in its own timezone. At a guess, is some part of China two hours behind Brisbane? I reckon so.

                    • @bigrizz: Yes, all of China.
Fun fact: all of China is one time zone.

                    • @bigrizz: China only has 1 time zone. I think Australia is the only country to have 4 time zone? (WA, SA, QLD, VIC/NSW/TAS)

                      • @pippohippo: Six actually!

                        • @tzar: really? I just checked NT…didn't realised it was 1.5hr behind. I thought it followed SA.

                          What's the 6th one?

                          • @pippohippo: Probably Christmas Island?
Though I'm not sure you'd class QLD as a different timezone to the rest of the east coast. It's just daylight savings.
[edit:] Actually looks like Australia might technically have 9 if you include islands…
+5 - Heard and McDonald Islands
                            +6 1/2 - Cocos Islands
                            +7 - christmas island
                            +8 - WA
+8 3/4 - some tiny place in the bight
                            +9 1/2 - SA/NT
                            +10 - east coast
                            +10 1/2 - Lord Howe
                            +11 - Norfolk

                            Crazy…

YAAAAY! - I managed to get date/time correct after much effort. Here is how:-
      1. downloaded and installed "system-date-synchronizer.exe" as per kaizen on 13/03/2019 - 22:42
      2. changed computer time to 3 hours ahead
      3. ran system-date-synchronizer and it set time to be 3 hours back from the computer time which was now 3 hours ahead - so correct time set.
      4. remembered to set computer time back to what it was.

(I guess the time adjustment varies depending on your time zone - there may be some utility available to set the correct time zone in the camera itself - but I couldn't find anything).
      I hope that helps.

      • I might add that I am in the Australian Eastern Daylight Time (AEDT) zone which is 3 hours ahead of the time zone for China. Not sure what happens when we revert to Standard Time (AEST) in April. Maybe I'll just set it up permanently for standard time - and explain that to the judge if video ever gets presented in court.

China doesn't appear to have any form of daylight saving time, so that's one less complication.

Just in case people lose their manuals in the future, i've uploaded the manual here:
    https://drive.google.com/open?id=1QeJW3xGMykJzYuSlQ_8vo26wP8…

Hopefully someone in the distant future (a year or two from now) finds this link and uses it :)

    • the link doesn't work.

      1. That’s an error.

The requested URL was not found on this server. That’s all we know.

    • also get an error

  • Did anyone get the mini bike pump and find that the pressure gauge didn't work?

    • I thought so at first but you need to twist open so it extends and you see a red tube before you pump it. The gauge will start moving when get over 30 psi I think. I still think it's crap but for 10 bucks it will do just fine.

  • Any more feedback on the ebikes? Any issues so far?

    • +1

The bike appears to be very well made and designed. My wife says its too fast. I want it to go faster :). 20" wheels do make for a bit of a unstable ride but nothing to worry about. I'm hoping someone will work out how to hack the control system. Entitity's website says there is a PC interface to setup such things as wheel size.

It very tail heavy but has a push assist function to make it roll at walking pace.

Built in lights are very good. Rear light comes on during braking.

Brakes are OK despite not being disc.

Seat height goes up pretty high. I can match my 29" MTB seat height.

      Climbs very steep hills easily.

Battery life appears to be very good.

I had a go on someone's Leitner a couple of months back. It wasn't that old but it looked and felt tired. There was a lot of corrosion. However it was hacked for full throttle control which was great fun. I'd say the Aldi bike is much better quality than the Leitner.

      • +1

Many thanks for the detailed review. I pulled the trigger and got one but haven't been able to test it in this rain. I too was looking for ways to circumvent the speed limiter. Apparently there's one hack where you can change the wheel size to trick the bike into thinking you're going slower than you actually…I take it you are referring to this when you mention the PC interface setup. Really hope there's some saavy peeps who work it out!

Rode in to work this morning on the e-bike. 25k's. This was my first ride besides a few minutes in my street yesterday. I've also never ridden into work before at all, so it was all firsts.

Before I launch into my impressions, can I ask anyone who has it (and still reading this thread) if you had to do anything to get the speedo to work? The unit is lighting up and I'm able to adjust the assistance but the speedo isn't registering any speed and the odomoter is stuck on 0.

    Impressions:
    - Overall, I love the feeling of effortlessly getting upto a cruising speed. The rest are mostly gripes with the style of the product.
    - It is really rough when riding on anything but paved roads and smooth gravel. I had a few cobblestone areas and for those small bits, I was worried I was going to rattle the bike to pieces. This is mostly due to wheel size I think - which also means that you can not mount curbs.
    - The assist is great. Its most noticeable when you start riding in the highest gear as once you start moving, the friction just disappears. This also means that if you're trying to move slowly to navigate around awkward bits, you should be weary but just get in the habit of reducing the assistance.
    - I found that I wanted more speed. I'm a complete novice rider and the highest I got to was 37kph. The wheels are too small and aren't enough gears I felt to go much faster.
    - The seat and handlebars kept slowly sliding down, so I need to adjust the bolts more.
    - Folded its still quite heavy.
    - The experience has left me wanting a bigger e-bike, so I guess that means its a great intro product.

    • I didn't have to do anything to the speedo on mine, working as it should be out-of-the-box. Not sure what's wrong with yours but hopefully am easy fix.

      • Couldn't see an obvious fix so I'll likely just take it back. Might upgrade to a bigger bike whilst I'm at it.

  • Quick update for anyone still playing at home, DTSync.exe for the action cam only works when the camera is connected directly to your PC. It must communicate with the camera itself, not simply by writing to the SD card. Also, the timeezone defaults to GMT+8 (China time), so you have to manually set your time forward on your PC for the time to sync correctly. Finally, contrary to the user manual, the time sync tool is Windows only, no Mac support.
