I've got one of these. They're good

  • You can spend $6 at Kmart get the same thing.

    • +10

      Not a cygnett one.

    I bought a cheapie from Ebay….

I wouldn't recommend it much, because the clamp actually opens up a bit and will become harder to clamp onto the grills coz its loose.

Might be a cheapie brand….but the mechanism is the same, so I wouldn't buy these .

    • I have one that I bought through Ozb a while ago on Ebay I think! It works great. no issues at all. Love the fact that I can just snap the phone on to it.

    • +2

Yeah, these ones rely on a spring mechanism. I recommend the ones with a screw clamp instead.

    • +1

I've got the same issue with clamp similar product as well which bought of AliExp. Not sure how sturdy this Cygnett's clamp is.

    • yeah, I needed to cable-tie mine, the magnet was stronger than the clamp.

  • Does anyone have any experience using this thing for a big mobile phone like huawei mate 20? Does it hold the phone well?

I've had bad experiences buying phone holders as it never seem to work well and ended up broken.

    • I use one for my Note 9 and it works brilliantly.

      • +1

great thanks, i'll give this one another benefit of doubt and try it.

  • +3

If it's a plate that you stick on the back of your phone, my guess is that it'll interfere with either the NFC or wireless charging.

    • I have my Note 9 in a thin case, with the magnetic plate for my mount slipped between the phone back and the case.

90 percent of the time NFC is completely fine, but the other few times I have to take the phone out of its case and it works great. Without a case, I can't see this causing an issue.

    • +1

I use 'Aukey' vent mount and magnet for years now. Never interfered with NFC so far.

    • The plate definitely interferes with wireless charging, I have not had issues with NFC/making payments. (I don't have this specific one, but I imagine it's all the same)

    • +1

Mine currently doesn't interfere with my wireless charging - continues to work like a charm.

    • Affects wireless charging, doesn't affect NFC that I've noticed.

  • +1

I read this review. I don't use phone case, and don't like the magnet plate needs to be stuck on phone's back, not to mention the wireless charging will stop working.

    • Not sure what phone you got, but based on my personal experience the wireless charging on the iPhone works flawlessly. Probably the location where the magnet plate is stuck could be a factor as well. I of course have stuck the plate on the inside of the phone case ;-)

    • It doesn't stop working, but I do find it interferes with it, gets very hot.

  • Would have bought one if my case wasn’t transparent.

  • Does this come with the magnet to stick on the back of your phone?

  • They are very good, highly recommended. Other brands are just meh compared to cygnett.

  • Thanks OP bought one. Thanks Pricehipster

  • Thanks OP, sure this is much better than a lot of ebay mounts.

  • +2

Vent mounts drop my Corolla vents to the lowest position as my S9 is too heavy for them. Do others get this issue too?

    • Use the adhesive one instead.

    • Yeah I have the same thing with my Note 9. I just ended up jamming a folded-up piece of paper under the vent to hold it in place, which has worked for me just fine.

  • Thanks, picked one up….I use the dash mounted version but will be nice to have options to put on the vent also.

  • Anyone got experience with using one of these with an otter box heavy duty case?

  • -1

    Thanks…got 3!

  • Will this work on a case that is aluminium made? I imagine it be too thick for the small magnet?

    • +1

You can stick the magnet to the outside of the case if you like.

      • +1

Got a plus from me, but one Chevron is due: you don't stick a magnet to your phone, rather a thin steel plate.

        • Ah true, I stand corrected.

      • +1

True. Thought sticking it inside the case wil look nicer especially the case is not the same colour as the steel plate.

  • Thanks…got 2!

  • already ozbargained!
