Cheapest price we've seen the 65" C8 for some time now and not likely to go much cheaper with the lack of stock floating around (new models coming soon).

Although I'd love to buy one of these, if I am going to plonk +3k down on a TV, I think I'll wait to see what I can get with this years LG models which promise to fix almost all of its shortcomings from this C8 model.

Even if I have to wait until Nov/Dec for a similar ball park price, I've come this far… ;)

Then again, if this thing was 2.5k. I would have already thrown my money at it!

    • Wait til you see the specs for C10…

      • This. But if you're not in a hurry then it certainly doesn't hurt to wait.

Not really. The difference between the C7 and C8 was literally a cpu upgrade mostly. The C8 to C9 is a noticeable upgrade on the feature set of this TV series.

    • Any big shortcomings that are noteworthy? I'm pretty happy with my Sony X90E though looking on with envy at my brother's X90F with Dolby Vision makes me envious I didn't wait a month or so longer. I'd love to make the switch over to OLED and the LG WebOS for me seems so so so much more responsive, useful than the god-awful slow Sony interface.

Yep I was pretty tempted by the Sony A8F but playing around with it in store was painful compared to the LG's.

You'll have a 120Hz panel that supports 120 fps video, but no HDMI 2.1 to connect any devices @ 4k 120Hz with VRR, only stream and play video files.

If you're gaming, or planning on having a set top box of some kind over the next 5 years, it's probably going to hold you back.

        • Love to see where you have a monitor or TV that can do 4K @ 120Hz…
Even if there's one somewhere hiding or just about to be released, good luck getting the GPUs able to deliver that! Looking at 2 2080tis which is at least $1600 each. Even then some AAA games won't be able to do ultra settings at 120hz. Probably need to spend a minimum of $5000 on the PC before you can even think about doing it. Then find something that will display 120Hz @ 4K. Good luck!

@Whisper Quiet: How silly of me, I forgot that people only buy TVs based on what they connect to it for the next 6 weeks. Forgive me?

FYI, even an RTX 2060 can do something like Overwatch at 4k60 Ultra, so even if I wasn't describing future proofing the monitor/TV choice as much as possible, your reddit chicken scratch maths aren't really welcome here.

@jasswolf: Nice reply. So both comments you wrote were pointless! Are you telling him to wait at least 18 months before playing games or what are you trying to say? Talking about 60hz when you know 120hz is what the discussion is about?! Looks like the only hdmi 2.1 are the 8K TV's which will cost about the same as a new car plus the equipment on the PC to use it. Maybe tell him to get the most expensive first gen model so it will be outdated as soon as content will be available for him to watch or play games with.

@Whisper Quiet: … the entire 2019 OLED series from LG will have HDMI 2.1, this was confirmed in January at CES. Most of last year's flagship 4k TVs supported 4k120Hz in some capacity, and all of this year's 4k 120Hz TVs will have HDMI 2.1 support. There's also several 4k 120hz monitors on the market, and has been for almost a year (though they don't support HDMI 2.1). I didn't even realise you were actually arguing this until now.

The 2080 can play eSports games at 4k 120 FPS, and can go above 60 fps in plenty of games where that kind of pacing is a must… of course 4k120Hz is going to be helpful to some people, and VRR support is going to be helpful to most, certainly more than you seem to think. And that's at Ultra/Max settings, when plenty of people would be happy to turn things down a touch and get 20% or better performance (sometimes as high as 50%).

I'd suggest reading anything before spouting off further, because you're not doing anything here other than creating future regrets:

                https://www.techspot.com/article/1702-geforce-rtx-2080-mega-…
                https://devblogs.nvidia.com/nvidia-turing-architecture-in-de…
                https://devblogs.nvidia.com/introduction-turing-mesh-shaders…
                https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/news/geforce-rtx-20-ser…

So that shows you the scope of performance, as well as how future games will perform when optimised for Turing cards (Wolfenstein II flies with VRS turned on). The only real question is if there'll be firmware and/or driver updates for HDMI 2.1 and HDMI VRR support. My guess is yes.

Feel free to remove the negs on your way out, and stay in school kid (at least I assume that's why you're behaving like a brat).

                • @jasswolf: From my experience, the person who is first to bring up age in a forum discussion is usually the younger of the two people in said discussion.

Also you yourself neg people who disagree with you all the time.

                  • @hey aj: I neg people who are flat out wrong with their info or are trolling. That's what the system is supposed to be for.

This person bumbled in, with bad info, and started talking down to me like I was talking out of my ass. All you've managed to do now is completely distort the information available to people in the comments, so cheers for being that petty.

There is the block/flashing issue that has been reported (google it, but essentially happens when scenes fade to black for transition, not always noticeable) plus not being able to use HDMI 2.1 input (which is with all the 2018 OLEDs anyway, some could do streaming content but not via USB/HDMI input). Some motion issues are flagged by some reviewers but really, it is a bit rich to single out just LG on this one.

Overall the C8 has no glaring weaknesses, just that the C9 has some nice additions that seem to be ahead of the pack for 2019 OLEDs. Making the best OLED on the market even better (and slightly more future proof.)

Seriously, if I had the cash to spare, I'd already have a LG C8 65" in my living room. Brother in law has one and my jaw just drops when I'm in front of it using it for anything (4k content and Mario Kart 8 look amazing on it).

I have the LG C8 65" OLED and have been enjoying it for the last 9 months.

It is a really good TV and watching streaming content like Netflix and Amazon at 4k HDR has been an incredible viewing experience (also have Atmos).
Playing Red Dead Redemption 2 on the Xbox One X on this TV has also been fantastic and I was blown away as where my friends when they tried it out too.
The WebOS is fast and responsive and I have never had issues with poor navigation. I also have an Nvidia Shield connected through to this for further streaming, PLEX, Steam/Nvidia streaming and have never had an issue (ethernet hardwired).

The point you want to get from this is that LG 4k OLED TV's are the bomb. So if you get this one you will love it, but if the new one comes out and you can afford it get that one, and you will love it even if you pay more. They are the best TV on the market.

  • Does anyone have a screenshot with eBay Plus price? Would be awesome if someone could! (Have price protection, so can get the difference of what I paid to this price) Cheers.

    • It's even cheaper today with PROGRAM20 if you get in quick

      • Sweet, that'll get me another $150 or so off. They rejected the 20% off of this one since it was eBay+ only, but accepted the 15% off…. Now I can get the full 20% off plus $5 or something less lol. Cheers mate!
