[PC] Free Oxenfree - Epic Games

1650

The next freebie from Epic.

Oxenfree

For your info: https://store.steampowered.com/app/388880/Oxenfree/

Pretty good game if this type of game is your thing.

From the website:

Oxenfree is a supernatural thriller about a group of friends who unwittingly open a ghostly rift. Play as Alex, a bright, rebellious teenager who brings her new stepbrother Jonas to an overnight party on an old military island. The night takes a terrifying turn when you unwittingly open a ghostly gate spawned from the island’s cryptic past. How you deal with these events, your peers, and the ominous creatures you’ve unleashed is up to you.

YOU determine every aspect of Alex's story while exploring Edwards Island, uncovering the base's dark past, and changing the course of your friends' lives.

Epic is on fire with these giveaways. I just wish they'd focus more on improving their client first than getting a strong playerbase on it.

Have a read what the client gets up to.

      • FBI looked "into Epic's client and has assured there is, in fact, spyware on Epic's client, gathering it for Tencent to sell."

One of many bad comments i have read online about the Epic Client, not good even for free games I personally am a little wary.

        • That's a baseless claim other than the Epic Client was gathering Steam IDs of the friends of the user which the user never agreed to which is the definition of spyware.

But behaving like spyware by doing something that is legitimate in some situations that the user didn't agree to - and then FIXING IT is not what malicious spyware typically does.

        • Oh what a load of bullshit.

Yeah, EGS scraps data from your steam list and wishlist. Thats about it.

God damnit Epic Games. Why are you always giving away games I already own.

Anyway, solid game. I’m not really into those story driven, making choices games but it was a nice and short horror-ish (not really) game. Pretty keen to try out their new game coming out

    • Can you tell me what difference the choices actually sort of did?

I thought this game was slow, dull, and ultimately quite boring.

To be at least spoilery as possible it is mostly all teenager sort of endings, make the characters like/hate you, start dating, kill someone off, change the past ;). stuff like that.

I wasn’t hugely invested in all the different characters I just thought the voiceovers, spirits and the radio were a nice feature. Basically if you finish one play through then there’s a plot twist that lets you replay the game but with more story lines and endings. I never did more than one play through though.

ALSO DON’T FORGET TO CLAIM SLIME RANCHER!!!

  • Thanks OP, the art style looks amazing for Oxenfree.
It seems like there will be free games every two weeks.

Oxenfree is really good. Personally I recommend it as a mobile/tablet game simply because the gameplay is very simple and great for that platform. It’s simple enough that you could call it more of a story than a game. But it’s a good story, good voice acting, and the different playthrough choices are all meaningful and not gimmicky.

The voice acting is sooo… teeny.

Lots of "Umm" and "like" and "dude"

But yeah good game indeed. Have it on Switch atm

True, but they are teen characters and it's a teen story haha.

  • reminds me of life is strange and what remains of edith finch

I find it funny the amount of hate for Epic and how people now won't buy games if they're exclusive, yet already they've probably already given us a solid $100 in free games

    • Some of the hate is from users that paid money for games that were to be released on the Steam platform when they paid for the game but then the game was changed to Epic store exclusive leaving them feeling like the contract they have with the publisher has changed.

      • +1

but the preorders are honored and they still get the game on steam
