Optus 12-Month SIM Only Plans: 25% off 80GB $41.25 [Students, New Services Only], 10% off 50GB $40.50 & 80GB $49.50

160

Was looking into changing the plan now that my old contract is over and came across this.

Includes:-
- Unlimited Standard National Talk & Text
- Unlimited Standard International Talk & Text to 35 countries
- 50GB Data
- Data free streaming for Spotify, Google Play and iHeartRADIO

Offer ends 31/03/19.

While some plans include unmetered Mobile TV streaming (includes Netflix, Stan, ABC KIDS iview, ABC ME, ABC iview) as well, looks like these two plans don't and you need to pay $5/month extra for that.

Also, if you're a student (or maybe have access to a .edu email address), the $55 plan is 25% off for you, bringing it down to $41.25/month and it comes with unmetered Mobile TV streaming for free. That offer expires on the 22nd of March and says that it's for new services only.

  • Interesting they are giving students a bigger 25% off on the $55 plan when you click on "Learn More" and Goto this link

Yeah, I already mentioned that in the last paragraph.

Should've made it bold or something, my bad.

      • That's a great deal 80gb/mth, $495/yr for students

  • This or the boost $300 for 12 months with 240gb i.e 20gb/month..? I have edu address..

I am on 22 gigs Optus plan, and hardly use more than 4 gigs a month.

I guess it doesn't make much difference if data is 20 gigs or 80 gigs if you have WiFi at home and work.

Unless you are streaming 4k while on work commute ( shit network coverage for 4k on train lines) , I think data for 20 or 80 gb wouldn't make any difference.

yep, i’m on 80gb plan rarely get past 30gbexct except when on holidays. I download my movies at home and watch on the train as train has poor mobile coverage when it pulls into stations on my line.

nice thing about big data plan is never worry about the $10 per gb auto topup.

I have the 80gb for $41 offer they had in Jan for everyone.
Most useful as you can add additional 3gb lines for only $15. We now share 83gb for $56 plus I have unlimited international calls.

    • and depends whether you need Int'l calls, SMS etc. This incl none where as Boost has unliminited to 25 countries which is a big plus for some (but not all).

      • This includes unlimited international talk and text

        • ….opps so it does, I think it's time for me to get glasses :-)

    • 40gb kogan 315$

      • Kogan uses Vodafone though, not really known for the best coverage.

Not a student, so on principal I'm refusing to buy any plan that have 1 price for students and 1 for the rest. Make me feel like I'm subsidising for those students.

    • +3

I more see it as Optus have chosen not to make as much profit from students which is fair enough (in my opinion only). No different than Microsoft or many other companies giving Student prices etc.

Given that every network in Australia (Telstra, Optus and Vodafone) all offer student discounts - I guess you should stop using a mobile service.

    • Apple gives students on almost everything, I hope you don't use apple products.

Yup, I'm not on any one of those big telcos accounts.

      • I mean, technically you are. They still get a cut of it, to say the least.

What carrier are you on anyway?

    • i will wait for the brown eyes discount, they had an olive skin discount but i missed that one.

    • Office 365 is free for students in majority of the cases.

  • Creating edu email free and easy

  • Be aware Optus is now often enforcing the time period on discounts. In the past when 12 months is up plans used to just roll into the same month to month terms. Now you'll possibly see the 25% discount removed then. Just check in 12 months and be ready to move of needed

    • Appears as 24 month discount on your bill

I am not a student — I got offered the $41.25 80GB (the $55 Sim Only Plan with a 25% discount) through Optus Chat. Rep said the deal is only available through Optus Chat (?). Very tempted to sign up.
