  • How's the quality compared to CT?

    • Never tried CT. What is this? Hopefully someone could compare and share with us the outcome.

      • 100% cotton or 60%? Any suggestion?

          • +2

            @conservative: Why so condescending?

            • -3

@stockastics: Because for someone who buys Boss and Versace, you don't seem to care about what's in your shirt. IF polyester is your thing, go for it.

        • +6

100% cotton not easy to iron. I prefer 60.

          • @alexshel: That's why I asked. Ironing is a pain with the 100% ones..unless u use the non-iron ones from CT..

          • @alexshel: the trick to ironing 100% cotton shirts, ive found, after much trial and error, is to hang them on a coat hanger immediately after washing, doing up the top button to retain shape. have a steam generator iron (the ones with the base station) makes the job 1000 times easier, even more so if you iron the shirt immediately after washing. yes when its wet.

dry ironing a 100% cotton shirt with a regular iron, ouch, good luck.

VH is worse than turd from a hippo. Like dont even waste your cash

      • +1

What's your preference then? Cotton on crap or overpriced uniqlo?

          • +1

@conservative: No way I would "donate" to David Jones for the overpriced stuff they sell.
TM Lewin is just another brand that works with suppliers in Asia as VH does.

I wouldn't pay $100 for a piece of cloth that costs ~$5 to produce if not less. Imagine how much is the profit.

            • +2

Apple, Samsungs are made in Asia just as many <$100 phones are.

Just because it's made in Asia it doesn't mean that they are all equal or all bad

              • @docians: Correct. And you can call them "overseas brands", as they are not produced in AU a d not only sold in AU.

                  Thanks for the geography lesson
I will need all of the long weekend to recover from the shocking news that Apple, Samsung, CT and TM are overseas brands as they are not produced in Australia and not only sold in Australia.

If I stick around longer I may sink into depression if I find my Mazda is also

"overseas brands", as they are not produced in AU a d not only sold in AU.

            • +1

@alexshel: It definitely costs MUCH more than $5 to produce unless you have slaves

Source: used to do business with those "asian suppliers"

              • @Exorcist: So I guess we may expect our orders to be cancelled..

            Computed tomography.

in the good old days it used to be computer assisted tomography or CAT scans

      VH include free pockets

    • About the same, CT perhaps slightly little better.

      • Thanks. I thought so, as a supplier/manufacturer on some shirts could be the same.

    • I'm thinking of chucking out my VH shirts after buying CT and TM…

  • +2

every time i buy a van heusen shirt i regret it and it turns into a dirty rag (not even kidding)

    • +4

Disagree. I have a number of shirts I am happy with, pretty good quality. It depends on the style/meterial I guess - they are different

      • -4

As someone who only buys shirts from overseas, I can tell you that VH are garbage quality.

        • +1

What are you comparing with (from overseas)? Please share, I would like to compare. VH shirts are made overseas (Indonesia, China) too 😊 and I'm using them over 3 years now. Happy.

            • +2

              @conservative: … such as?

            • @conservative: Do you think Van Heusen is not an overseas brand? Not a local AU brand for sure. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/PVH_(company)

              • -3

@alexshel: DOesn't matter what it is. They're not a quality brand.

                • @conservative: I guess so, if you cannot even mention your favourite "overseas brand"

                  • +1

                    @alexshel: look above.

Rodd and Gunn, Ralph Lauren, Ted Baker, CTShirts, ALlen, Hugo Boss Anderson & Sheppard, Huntsman.

                    List goes on.

                    • +1

@conservative: Rodd and Gunn - I doubt it's an international brand known anywhere out of Oz. Ralph Lauren - great brand, but overpriced. I have a couple of shirts from them and can say VH is not that bad. Never heard about other brands you mentioned apart from Hugo (I guess it's on the same level as Ralph, or even more expensive)..

                    • @conservative: ones in the list above are way more expensive and of course the quality is going to be better than VH. Please compare apples to apples.

                    • @conservative: I like Ted Baker..

        • Jolly good then.

    • +6

Seem dumb to make the same mistake repeatedly…duh..

      • πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

      • +1

They use to be a good brand back in the day before they changed to a cheapo manufacturer.

Sometimes they have $10 a shirt deals. Pretty good quality rag if you ask me.

        • Who has $10 deals? I saw just one $9 shirt advertised on David Jones online (means it is likely out of stock), which was of XXXL size

    • You need to wash your shirts more often. Try Vanish Gold it's good (not even kidding).

  • +3

    Hello.
If you are after a short sleeve business-like shirt this one is great….
    http://www.vanheusen.com.au/mens-classic-fit-short-sleeve-sh…

But this one turns in to rags….
    http://www.vanheusen.com.au/men-s-classic-fit-short-sleeve-s…

I bought 9 of the good ones for $107.91 delivered. (Under $12 each).
    Thanks OP.

    • Thanks for the comment mate. Yes, as I said some of VH shirts are not as perfect, but some can compete with Ralph Lauren. I have real examples in my wardrobe.

    • Fingers crossed our orders don't get cancelled.

    • which other models did you take, if you don't mind me asking?

    • +1

      @Eeples
The one you said is great has 65% polyester and 35% cotton

The one you called a rag has 70% cotton, 30%. Polyester

      Any other differences?

Personally I wouldn't wear something with 65% polyester, but that's just me

      • +1

The rag is more of a twill weave.
It fluffs up, after a few washes, and becomes scratchy and unwearable imo.

The better one does not fluff up.

Also, I do not iron. Just hang them well on the clothes line.

This is my first hand experience of them both.

        • so which other models have you bought with full length sleeve?

  • How long is the coupon valid for? Could get a 150 suit for work. Cheap as. Is there any stores in Sydney??

    • +1

Try Myer or David Jones. Birkenhead point had a VH shop too.
No idea about the code expiry. Found it by simply trying different digits after VH, as VH15 (published elsewhere) didn't work. VH70 didn't work too, unfortunately πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

    • +1

I think van Huesen is carried by Myer and David Jones.

    • Check if wool or not

      • -1

They use 100s wool in a lot of their pants. It's like the worst quality and not fine at all.

        110 is my min

  • +2

    Thanks OP!

I bought these last sale and was happy with them. They aren't quite as good as CT shirts (though CT shirts quality dropped a fair bit from the olden days), but 9 shirts for $105 cannot be beat.

  • +3

All my VH shirts have gone into the charity bin since the CT and TM Lewin deals. Much better fit, construction and fabrics. Having said that they're a great deal for under $15

    • +1

      100% agree

  • +1

    thank you bought some shirts

  • Most of these shirts should qualify for free returns, right? They are not "final clearance items"?

  • Hi OP, which is the sweater you bought? Link pls?

  • +1

    Hi guys,

Be aware when you use shopback the activation is always deactivated in the last payment step.

    Cashreward is fine.

    Cheers

    • It is not a deactivation, I guess it is a confirmation that your purchase has been recorded even before you paid for it.

  • +2

Wow, cheaper than Big W or Kmart shirts. Good find OP.

  • +1

    Thanks OP.
Just ordered 8 shirts for approx $108
plus 7% cash back with free delivery.
Not sure about the quality, but probs better than the two year old shirts I have now.
After purchase you also get a $20 off code "VHCREW" I'm not sure if its stackable

    • I don't think it is. I didn't try too hard, but the coupon entry box seems to disappear after one code.

    • Not stackable - T's&C's - "Only one coupon code may be used per order."

  • +1

    Thanks OP

  • +2

Thanks OP - Grabbed another 3. Bought a bunch of their euro tailored easy care range a while back after growing a bit tired of the weird fit of the CT slim fit and have been very happy with the quality. Great value for $12 a shirt!

  • +2

People are pretty agressive here… over shirts, but I do agree. CT and TM are far superior in quality.

    • +1

Therefore they wouldn't ever cost $12 - maybe 5 times more or so

      • Normally $30 on special. But for $12 each it was very quick and easy to update my wardrobe. Thanks!

  • +4

Thanks for the post, OP. Don't pay too much attention to the haters, they just gonna do what they gonna do (i.e. hate:) ). It's one thing to provide constructive feedback on poor quality product (and I've been saved from wasting my money on many occasions thanks to such feedback from other OBers). A bit different thing when people go beyond that.
For what it's worth, VH is definitely not a top brand or even close to it. But at under $12/shirt (after cashback), this is a great deal for what I call a daily grind wear due to ease of maintenance. I have a bunch of pure cotton shirts for more upmarket/more formal wear when I wouldn't wear VH shirts or the like. You just tailor your outfit to an occasion. Spent $100.28 for 8 shirts and picked the designs I liked, so I'm happy with the deal. Peace out to everyone :)

    • +2

Yep, totally agree..some people love patronising..I wear upmarket 90% of the time..but the ozb in me wants to wear the VHs of the world for 10% of the time. However, I am gonna get into trouble with the Mrs as apparently my wardrobe is bigger than hers..

      • "…my wardrobe is bigger than hers" :)). That's like the ultimate sin, mate. Stay safe.
