I have been looking for a 8TB cheap external hard drive and found this on Amazon AU. Sold by Amazon US and is eligible for free international delivery for prime member. Just ordered one and showing delivery estimate on 4 -10 April. So maybe not a good choice if you do mind the wait.

And don't forget the 5.00% Cashback from CashRewards.

    • Different Model - WD Elements HDDs are the older model of Hard Drives

      • What's the difference? I just got the WD Elements this week from Amazon US, it had a White label red helium in it

  • Are these helium drives or it's a lottery now days?

  • Of course, as an NESN model, they will come with US power plugs.

They work fine if you have the powerboard with US sockets (or you are into twisting them into an AU configuration).

I don't particularly like this case as it has no indicator light. You have no way of telling when it is active, or even if it is on. The old Elements drives were better in that regard.

    • +1

I buy local power cables, done it for all WD drives I purchased off Amazon US. Adapters are shit.

My 16tb variant has a white light.

    • I read someone say WD in Australia will send you an Aussie powercord free of charge if you can provide them the serial number. Can't remember the process or where I saw it, but probably would have been another 8TB deal.

      • I have made this comment a couple of time in the Ozbargain forums.

This applies to the the US models. The products sold in the UK and Europe usually come with multiple ac plugs and/or cables for most countries.

I have purchased many WD products over the years. For US models, as long as you have the model number & serial number to register, they will ship you the appropriate cable and/or ac adapter for that unit for your country.

Phone WD on 1800 429 861 and they will ship it immediately. I usually get mine within a couple days from Vietnam. Thailand etc.

If you don't want to wait, you can always get them locally for a couple of bucks :)

  • Only issue is warranty - bought 2 from officeworks, one failed. I have to post it to Vietnam for warranty. What a pain!

    • What, Officeworks don't deal with it for you? That seems wrong
