  • Seller based in HK, so no GST Invoice I assume?

    • Doesn't Ebay collect 10% on the behalf of the Australian government?

      • yeah but ebay doesn't send you the invoice for you to claim back on TRS… at least I haven't found any cases that do.

    • For eBay you will only be charged GST if the listing's location is outside of Australia regardless of what their profile location is. So in this case no GST is charged by eBay as the listing location is "Warehouse, Australia".

      • In that case the advertised price should include GST and they should be sending a tax invoice with it. What are the odds?

        • In the search results they say "10% GST may apply" and not much else. It should be a lot more clear.

Sounds like a good all round device.
Only thing i'd miss is Band 28 and an OLED display.

    • +3

      display is fine

      • Can't go back from OLED.
Other use scenarios might be different, but any display with a back light is sub optimal for me.
I spend a bit of time reading ebooks at night, and having white text on a black background is both pleasing to the eye and incredibly efficient for an OLED.
If it were not for that i could deal with an LCD.

        • Luckily I don't know what I'm missing out on yet

    • +7

      Also doesn't have NFC, which is a deal-breaker for me @ $400+

  • How does warranty go with these imports?

    • +9

      Best to expect none

      • Figured so.

  • this phone will be really bargain when it goes down the $400 mark . Still a good phone
This phone was made out of plastic with average LCD screen just to have snapdragon 845 in it at this price….
I will go for the huawei honor 8x at $345 ( $384 for the 128GB ) with slightly lower battery and 64GB internal storage expandable with sdcard

    • It has been down to $400 before. I got this for around $360 after using gift cards too.

      • shame about no usb-c and not waterproof

        • +3

No usb-c?? I'm pretty certain the one I purchased for my mum was usb-c…

It's a great phone that may look and feel a little on the cheap side but it really doesn't skip a beat so if you prefer using your phone over looking at it then it's an absolute bargain around the $400 mark. No band 28 doesn't make a rat ass difference in real world terms, i've done like for like speed tests vs a note 8 and this was pulling down more meg than the note using telstra.

NFC for most people is irrelevant as pulling my wallet out of my pocket takes as much time if not less when I tap that and go…

          • @mpryan84: Band 28 can become critical for some users, usually Optus, less so Telstra as they have more 'other' bands.

            4G in Australia…

            Telstra have B3, B7, B8, B28
            Optus have B3, B7, B28, B40
The Key bands for penetration into buildings or better distance coverage are B5 (850MHz), B8 (900MHz) and B28 (700MHz)
Telstra has 2 of those 3, Optus only has B28.

Ultimately, for many users it will make little difference, more so on Telstra, but there are scenarios where it matters, critical for those who reside or work in such an area and also important for those who travel.

  • Specs on GSM say usb C.

Just received my Pocophone from the previous deal and upgraded from a Samsung S6. I feel like people bash this thing too hard for what it is keeping in mind it's under $450. I thought i'd give some personal impressions:

    • The battery is amazing. Upgrading from 2550mAh to 4000 is an incredible improvement and feels like the it could chug on for nearly over 2 days. I'm a put my devices on charge every night kind of person and I am yet to see the Pocophone drop below 50% charge.

    • The unlock speeds are top notch for both the finger print and the face scan, taking a blink of a second to access the phone. I was really impressed with both of these technologies.

    • The speed of the phone was also extremely impressive with its flagship level processor and 6gb ram. Never have I had to wait on the phone to complete the tasks I have given it, nor have I experienced any lag within apps.

    • The camera is of quite good quality and will be more than enough for the average phone user, and with the addition of a Google Camera port, could maybe even be enough for a photographer wanting a budget phone.

    • The build quality was surprisingly much better than I expected. Initially the plastic backing was one of my biggest worries as I thought it would make the phone appear cheap and tacky, however after seeing the phone in person, It actually looks far better than I anticipated (even though I will still use a case anyway). Additionally, the screen was also above my expectations looking crisp and colourful with the main disadvantage being the poorer viewing angles in comparison to my previous OLED Samsung screen. Colours are better and brighter on my old display when compared side by side, but the Pocophone image is in no way poor and I could barely tell any difference during my everyday use.

    • I understand that with the phone, two of the biggest concerns are the lack of Band 28 and NFC. For me neither of these exclusions were an issue as I have retained 4G connection over my whole location, and I never considered the need for NFC as I have my wallet on me at all times in public. Understandably, these two factors may prove an annoyance depending on your situation.

Overall, I personally feel the pros outweigh the cons. With top of the line internal specs and giant battery and storage sizes, I feel this phone could last as a daily driver for years and still keep up. For the people anti Pocophone, keep in mind this is a budget model and it is being compared to the flagships of this current generation of mobile devices in the media, while being almost a 1/3 of their prices.

Gave you a plus vote for the detailed and balanced review.

I would say for many people this is a below $500 phone delivered and still represents great value.

    • Which case did you buy, if you don't mind asking and how do you like it?

      • +1

        I bought this one:
        https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/INVISIUM-Brushed-Soft-Rubber-TPU…

        • Case fits well and tightly
        • Rubber construction making it easy to grip and being able to shock absorb against a drop onto a hard surface
        • Looks classy and appears fairly premium looking for the price
        • Covers my main requirements of protecting the corners of my phone and also preventing both the screen (while face down) and the back camera (while face up) from scratching against the surface it is laying on

Looks like the case is sold out from the store I purchased from, but I believe it is a generic design so it is probably obtainable elsewhere. Another thing to add is the phone comes with a transparent gel rubber case in the box which I was unaware of until receiving it.

    • How do you install Google Camera?

      • Find the apk then install it. Google poco gcam

  • I got the APK from here:
    https://forum.xda-developers.com/poco-f1/themes/port-modded-…

    If I remember correctly I used "MGC_6.1.021_XCAMBase_F1_v4b".

For people unaware, the default camera app for the Pocophone has been allegedly been nerfed by the software so that it doesn't compete with Xiaomi's flagship devices. To improve the camera quality, modders have ported the Google Camera app over onto the Poco F1 which is preset with an improved camera which gives greater detail and more image adjustments previously not available.

*Also make sure you are on the most up to date OS, I had issues with the app before updating.

  • I have used this for 2 months. I love battery life. However, I really miss B28 and NFC. I live in Maitland region, and Maitland is okay without B28. But I sometimes go to Scone, Taree, Wollombi, and Stroud. Without B28, I can't get anything with Optus and Telstra. Vodafone is also terrible anyway. Telstra(maybe Optus) with B28 phone is best option in those areas. Pocophone F1 is very good phone though. If you live in Metro, then I recommend this phone and Vodafone network.
