The picture quality of these is pretty poor though.

There's more to image quality than resolution.
Colour gamut, colour accuracy, number of colours which can be displayed, colour delta, contrast ratio, deepest black level, accuracy of black, white and greys, number of greys which can be displayed, gamma, refresh rate, response time, input lag etc.
Yeah I am thinking of getting one for maybe like a massive screensaver/wallpaper and to mess with animation.. the 49" seems to be really great value and I can see using it as a secondary test output monitor for non gaming stuff just web browsing and crappy videos while my main monitor is for all the primary stuff like heavy gaming and video editing.

Just called Fairfield NSW store, the lady in home entertainment says they have 6 of the 50” in stock at the back, I’ve got one of the 6 on hold for myself. Thanks OP!

i bought the 50" TV for my mum. Worked well for the first year then lost the picture and only audio worked. The audio went shortly after.
If anyone else can confirm this model of TV dying shortly after purchasing or after one year I might hold off and aim for something better.
Longevity of the item plays a big part in the amount of value of worth an item has.
My father's 32" lasted nearly a year before the picture went.
How long did audio only work for? I'm curious to know cause once the picture went I would of binned it.

Can't remember if the one I have is the 43" or 49". Got it Dec 2017 for about $300, still works well. I use it for streaming and xbox, and does the job well. Audio still works, but I generally use my sound system for audio.
That is nice to know. Keep us updated if anything new goes wrong with it.

Ugh they must have replaced all these with new/different models of the same shitful quality because several staff of different BigW stores could not find the Article Numbers or accept the price despite being the exact same “name” - Too hard over the phone.
Good price but I don't think there is actually any stock anywhere
