How Does The Aus Post SMS Automatic Notification System Work

I recently ordered some Killer coffee this one and it was due to be delivered today.

I was then sent the following text from Aus post shown here to which I replied within 1 minute but was then notified that i was replied too late.

Does anyone know how exactly this system operates ?

  • You're not alone and I'd love to know as well.

I constantly get these SMS at around 9-10am after the item has already been delivered\carded.

General opinion seems to be that the system doesn't work

  • If they took it back to the Post Office, isn't that the option you chose anyway?

    • OP may have wanted to provide authority to leave.

    • Yes it is the option I chose anyway, but it just shocked me that I replied so fast and it still didnt work

  • I've also had that happening to me before as well.

It's just another Aus post pretence. In my experience, when I receive one of these, the item has already been delivered, or if a signature is required, just a card in the box. responding to the SMS is like writing to Santa.

    • responding to the SMS is like writing to Santa.

LOL best analogy I have read in a while.

  • My guess is the postperson in charge decides when it is sent (probably when they are en route or whatever) and in this case just decided to call it a lazy day.

That or I dunno the system is automatic and not manual and yeah it's (profanity).

  • I must be the only lucky one. I typically get these at 7:30am (truck driver starts at 6am) and always delivered around 9am.

Nope, also lucky here (usually 8:30 for delivery by 11) but they're delivered to a business address

      • Business in my case too. I only get the notification on overseas Auspost shipments though.

        • I get them on domestic parcels (usually DJs orders as they use the eParcel system)

No matter how quickly I reply, it's always too late to change preference

    • yeah its really weird

      • On the positive side. The "you weren't home" SMS tells me which post office the parcel is at and I can adjust my journey home to pick it up without having to look in the mailbox for the card.

I get 100+ deliveries a year. I can't remember the last time I had an issue with AusPost whereas other delivery companies let me down constantly.

        • True True, do you need the parcel slip though ?

@TerryJustTerry: Nope. I turn up and they look at my licence. Check name and address against parcel. I sign and off I go. The queue isn't big either.
This is at either Alexandria or Erskineville POs. Both areas densely populated and I assume the volume of parcels quite large.

@brad1-8tsi: This (although mine was for a Parcel Locker delivery but the parcel was too long for said Parcel Locker)

Edit: oops meant to reply to the main thread

            • @brad1-8tsi: ahh good to know, My Id shoes the wrong adress but hopefully they will just go with it

              • @TerryJustTerry: I think you would need something with a valid address. Like a utility bill.

I won't ask why you don't just change your address because mine was incorrect for almost 2 years while I was moving about.

                • @brad1-8tsi: I moved 2 doors down from my previous address and every time I've needed it they have just accepted it.

I really should update it though
