Harvey Norman Increased Price Overnight

So I have been doing research ALL weekend to find the best oven and dishwasher combo to suit my budget and finally set on Harvey Norman (yes I was shocked too!).

Last night this Bosch dishwasher was $619 online. This morning, its $688. Major bummer. https://www.harveynorman.com.au/bosch-serie-2-activewater-60…

Any experience with this and getting them back to the original price? I know it's been on sale for lower than $619 but I can't wait for that again.

It appears they have price matched GG.

  • I'm going to take in the Google Cached site and show them/trick them into honouring the cheaper price. Any experience if this will work?

just ask :) …or threaten to go to GG :P

Retailer can change the price whenever they like.

If their promotion ended yesterday then it is what it is.

you should have bought it online with C&C, unless you want better price and talk to the real person face to face then you wait and go into the store.

For Hardly normal I usually do live chat and ask for the best price or price match then do pick up

OP was probably hoping for a better price this morning!

      • Yea that was my plan. Was going to purchase an oven at the same time to try get a better price.

What did the store say when you asked them?

    • HN only do price match?

      • +1

I don't know I don't shop at HN i avoid it like the plague lol.

You can always try and haggle them down using the Bing Lee price?

        • -1

They only match the lowest price you provide and by saying it it has to be a brick and moral store

Garry is not nice enough to beat like officeworks does.

          • @SnoozeAndLose: Good thing Bing Lee is brick and mortar then, no?

            • @Chandler: It is but they will just match the price. Would you want to buy from HN or BL witht he same price?

  • HN unfortunately is the cheapest for whitegoods IME but I've never once paid sticker price. Do your research, know the competitions prices then go in and ask for their best price. If it's not as good as the previous sale price then pull out that info saying you just missed their sale and was hoping you could get that price. You should be able to get at least that if not better.

    • Yes a little bit of haggling and it is hands down the cheapest with delivery. I feel sorry for those who have personal vendetta against HN vowing not to buy, allegiances should be on the cheapest/convenient ratio.

Go in person and offer cash and be prepared to walk. :)

    • I've never had a large whitegoods store care if I pay Cash or not.

They probably prefer Credit Card/EFTPOS as it saves time counting and banking said Cash.

      • They prefer paying the credit card surcharge? News to me. Showing the cash is also a statement that you aren't a tire kicker.

        • Which large whitegood store has a credit card surcharge?

          • @JimB: OK. Vendor/Merchant service fee.

            • @[Deactivated]: I understand there's a fee for the store. And while small stores or restaurant may change a credit card fee, what large whitegoods store like HN, TGG, JB Hifi gives you a discount if you pay cash.

              • @JimB: The Good Guys spent a fortune in advertising to drill into your brain "pay less, pay cash". There's less focus on that now so many people use cards and don't carry cash. It's not dead if the vendor saves money. Diners and American express are often refused due to having higher fees, so it does make a difference.

                • @[Deactivated]: That was years ago.

'The Good Guys scraps cash discounts as consumers go digital' https://www.smh.com.au/business/the-good-guys-scraps-cash-di…

It save the vendor merchant credit card fees but it's not free for the store to pay staff to handle cash.

                  • @JimB: That story is actually about the advertising campaign being scrapped rather than the internal policy. Fewer people carry cash so it doesn't make sense to target them.

If you are saying that losses at a store due to insider theft outweigh the benefits, that's an interesting point. I don't think counting $619 is that hard but yeah, maybe theft is more than 2%.

                    • @[Deactivated]: Counting $619 isn't hard. But handling, storing and banking large amounts of cash isn't free.

Plus large retailers will only be charged ~0.5% credit card merchant fees, no where near 2%.

The good guys have this model in their ebay store: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Bosch-SMS40E08AU-Stainless-S…

If you checkout and use the PRINCE10 promocode, you get 10% off, which brings it down to $619.2

I brought a fridge off the Good Guys a few weeks ago using the same method by asking them to price match their ebay price after applying a promo code. Once the price was confirmed, I brought 5% (4% after CC fees) good guys gift cards from lumo energy and paid using them.

I've read that some good guys stores may refuse to price match ebay discounts, but it's worth a shot.

    Guys help please.

I wanted to buy Rio Tinto shares at $92, they unfortunately jumped to $95 before I could get to the ASX.

Do you think I can get the ASX to cover the difference?

Buy on a credit card with price protection and hope they drop?

    • Place order for 92, volatility may fill your trade

  • It was only a small item, but I had kind of the same thing happen to me - I saw a price online, then went to my local HN store, where the price had been increased.

Luckily, I had taken a printout of the page with the lower price, and they agreed to sell it to me at the lower price.

    Never hurts to ask.

having worked in retail before, I've often honoured promotional prices but only with a store manager's (or area manager) consent.

If you take the printout of the cached deal to the store you might be able to get them to markdown the price to match yesterdays sale, especially if they have monthly performance quotas they have to meet.

    Title is a bit misleading.

Made me think the OP was told one price over the phone then when he got there they jacked it up lol

    • +1

      100% misleading title.

      Where are you Mods?

    • I'm pleasantly surprised that there was no mention of a scam!

Revise to: "Store sale price ended before I decided to purchase."

  • I tried to do the same a while ago with a printer at JB. We found it in stock at the local place near my mum, and we decided to go there the next day as the shop had just closed. Didn't realise that it was a sale price that was ending that night (which is pretty dumb of me, I admit). I told them that we had thought the price was staying at the sale price or we would have purchased it online, and they agreed to let us have it for that price. We saved at least $50.

  • Just go into the store, tell them what you are after and ask for best price. If you cannot negotiate a better deal, take your business elsewhere.

  • HN will price match the Good Guys advertises price. You won’t get cheaper for cash, they actually make money on the interest free through commission, hence when you can haggle, but they might throw in extra warranty and not give a discount. Also prices can vary from store to store as each owner/manager owns the stock and can sell at their chosen price.

    As said multiple times above;

Go in store and barter. I actually bought a blender from HN on the weekend, as they were the only store to have stock. I showed them the price I wanted to pay (competitor who had them on special), and without any issues or further haggling, the rep took another ~5% off the other stores discounted price.

This is the experience I've had many times before, and only time I buy from HN. Go in informed with the price you want to pay, and they'll quickly match/beat competitors. I'd never pay full RRP! :)

Go the full ozbargain and do what I did. Kitchen full of Aldi special buy applicances: dishwasher, cooktop, oven, range hood, microwave and taps for just over $1100. All with 3 year in-home warranty (except the taps and microwave) and they perform great. HN can eat my shorts, the last freestanding stove/oven I purchased from them was over $1800 (after haggling)! Exact same model in the UK on special 450GBP. Repeat after me: HN are a rip off, HN are a rip off…

    • Downvoted by a Harvey Norman wannabe :(

  • Wow…

Comparing local pricing to on sale price in UK.

    Amazing.

    • And GBP price included a 20% VAT vs 10% GST so go figure!
