What's The Best Affordable Peanut Butter That You Have Tried?

Was looking at the ones by Coles and noticed that they have two types, a really cheap one made in India and one made in Australia from less than 10% Australian ingredients. Anyone have any experience with those?

You can name the brands. They are not going to sue you.

    • ? Im referring to the coles brand peanut butter. Theres one that comes in a 375g jar which is made in India and one that comes in a 500g jar made in Australia.

      • That is quite interesting. Would have thought both are made with the same recipe as both are Coles brand

Generic brands go to tender and even the same packaged product can be made by two different companies for different sizes.

What's your definition of affordable? A percentage of your cleared weekly income?

You are posting on Ozbargain, a bargain website…this should not be hard to figure out…

Then I suggest you change title to cheapest. Affordable is different for everyone. Remember most people on the site earn more than 300k p.a

  • I like Kraft crunchy. I’ve tried others, but they’re just not the same.
Wouldn’t mind making my own after seeing how simple it looks on YouTube.

Edit: curious which peanut butter is unaffordable? I’ve heard of 25k desserts with jewelry in them, is there a peanut butter like this that I’m missing out on?

    • Yeah, in the US at least, peanut butter is a poor person staple. I don't eat it often here, but I thought prices ranged from dirt cheap to affordable.

Deals on this always seem to go crazy

Though I'm a fan of the standard Kraft Bega peanut butter

Yep, we choose Bega in our house (low fat crunchy), only buy on special - usually around 60c/100g
      .

I just buy when Pics or other brand goes half price.

    • Pics or Mayvers. Both great when half price

i don't like transfat hygrogenated oil no matter how affordable they are

375g mayvers at $2.50 is the most affordable you can get while not feeling guilty of scooping it

  • We go to a place at South Melbourne market and they freshly grind the peanut butter for you. It is just pure peanuts and tastes great. It might be worth looking at your local market and get a small amount at a time. Not sure why you would cheap out on peanut butter you probably shouldn’t be eating huge amounts of it.

  • Black and Gold brand, the old formulation.

  • Bramwells from Aldi is hands down my favourite.

Peanut butter keeps really well so I just stock up when the good stuff is on special.

I get Pics peanut butter whenever there is a special in coles or woolies

Pics seems the best to me. 'Safe and healthy' far outweighs 'cheap' for me.

  • Peanut butter from India, surely this will offend our resident animal rights group. Stealing peanuts that could be fed to the starving endangered elephants, now isn’t that a Mammoth no - no

  • Pics or Mayvers peanut butter when they're on special.

Going to grab the Purely Nutz one to try as they're half price at Coles this week.

    • Even at half price they seem fairly expensive.

      • +2

        Wait, $2.50/jar is considered expensive?!

  • Best Affordable Peanut Butter

I am unaware there are peanut butter that is so high priced it is unaffordable..

Like where can I get this $100 per spoon peanut butter?

  • +2

A lot to do with personal preference, of course - but Purely Nutz is really good. Also, 100% Australian-grown peanuts. IMO, best is the Cinnamon & Honey variety, not too sweet, and has a bit of sea salt flakes - so might not suit everyone.

The Coles specials post starting tomorrow lists the 375g, so the Cinnamon & Honey, or the Dark Chocolate (270g) might be excluded. But hope the 1/2 price is across the entire range.

  • Mayvers is soooo much better than Pics
