Much cheaper than usual, but hard to clean and maintain. Ours became impossible to turn. Took it apart to clean and reassemble, but some parts are impossible to get to for cleaning or lubrication, so it will likely end up in the bin.

I've got one and not had any such problem. Can I ask if you cleaned it with water? Not saying you did, but I think it says not to so we've only every used dry brushes and that seems to work fine. It's no harder to turn today than it was when we bought it (which, if I recall correctly, was around $50-75 about 10 years ago).

      • I'm not sure if we have this exact model but we bought one maybe 8 years ago and have no such problems either. I would say it get used once a week on average.

Still turns with ease, can't say it's ever needed cleaning either (other than just brushing it off), like it's pasta, what exactly is getting all dirty and needing cleaning?

    • +3

I've never had this issue and mine is from an op shop. You aren't meant to really do much more than wipe these down. The only thing that builds up on mine is flour, which is easily wiped down with a damp cloth. The cleaning instructions say not to get it wet or submerge.

    • +1

yep have to agree, never had this issue and we use ours about once a week and are right on the coast as well. For anyone looking to buy one make sure you read the care instructions and never use water to clean it. Not saying thats what happened with Make it So, they could have just had a dud.

    • +1

We never washed it or submerged it, only carefully wiped it. We used it on thick, oily dough, which made the machine sticky. We used it mostly to flatten thick dough, requiring quite a bit of pressure.
We are careful with our things and don't neglect them. But one day, it became near impossible to turn. Maybe dough or cooking oil clogged it up.

But I upvoted because it's better than the cheap use-once machines typically sold for $35.

Oil? Our pasta recipe is just flour and eggs (or water). I think the oil might be the problem here.

    • Do you have any recommendations for better ones? I'm obviously gonna get this to learn how to make my own pasta but in the off chance i get addicted to it, I want to have a backup once this nears the end of its lifetime after i give lots of care.

      • Nope. In fact, for "consumer-level" ones, this is the best one, which is why we got one a while ago. We got the whole set, with all the extensions (which likely will not be used). As Evil-Elmo indicated, the oil may have been the issue. But I do think it should not have been that much of an issue, and it should have been easier to maintain. One of the moving bits inside a cylinder needs cleaning and lubrication, but it is not accessible. I spent almost two hours to clean and reassemble it; it moves slightly better, but still very heavy.

This machine is good, but it just didn't work out for us. At this price, it's very good value.

I ended up buying an extension to the K-mix mixer we got cheaply from Amazon (thanks Ozbargain!) to do the dough flattening.

  • That's CRAZY cheap for the Marcato. Stock is pretty limited though, so move quickly people :)

Buyer beware: 20 mins later they emailed me and told me that they don't have it (despite saying online that they do).

      • Damn, I just ordered one, along with the drying stand and pasta bike…I hope the store I ordered from (dandenong) still has stock!

      • mine confirmed ready for pickup.

  • +3

Red one is available for slightly more at $37.25 https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/marcato-atlas-150-design-red-…

    • Thanks!
Hopefully I have more luck with the red one (plus, it was available for delivery unlike the silver one)

    • +1

Ordered the red one but they cancelled my order with a reason 'DELIVERY CANCEL - NO STOCK'. Pretty disappointed

      • Ordered a red and a silver from my local store and got both. Just depends on your store I guess.

    Wellness….ffs

    • +2

Yeah, if you use it correctly the making of the pasta will burn just as many calories as the eating of the pasta gives you :-)

      • +1

I thought that was what the pasta bike was for.

  • Also some other sizes of the frypans. Just search for 'Scanpan Induction' to see them all.

  • Great deal for the Marcato. The one I had did a really good job - until it died just after the warranty expired. At this price I don't mind buying a new one every 5 years :-)

    great paster machine!

    • +2

      but does it copy?

      • +2

this is just the paste version

  • +1

I think it might be time to finally open ours, we got it as a wedding present 15years ago! :)

  • +2

    "Paster" ;)

    • +2

      I don't think it'll paste anything.

      Seriously, who can't spell Pasta?

  • no stock

    • Maybe not for you but I can see at least one store does (Bunbury, WA).

  • +1

Dang that's a really good price! I bought mine at full price almost and would recommend it to others; it's a great product.

    • +1

Same! Bought the pasta wheel and drying rack. Really only needed the rack to stop me losing all my hard work when I sticks together but the bike/wheel looks… interesting?

  • +1

    Pasta-erer!

  • +1

Looks like they just removed it from the site

  • Oh dang, I just replaced mine from House for $49 just last week.
Came with 25yr warranty but this would've been cheaper.

    • 25 years, wow! What brand was that? Marcato is solid, but not infallible, if you use it frequently you might need a new one every 5 years, so yours might work out cheaper in the long run :-)

      • The brand was Baccarat. The only thing the warranty said it doesn't cover was negligence and water damage.
Dunno if the only way it can be ruined is by rust. In any case I wouldn't mind 5+yrs of use as that'll be $10/yr which is a good investment.

        • +1

The way my old Marcato got ruined is where the handle attaches to the main part, the handle was made of a tougher material and over time just 'ate' the connection. First it would skip sometimes, then it would just turn loose. No way of fixing it.

Maybe my dough was a little dry sometimes making it hard to push through. But then I'm no bodybuilder…

In good news, when I picked mine up from this deal I saw on the box: Marcato now has 10 years warranty.

  • Grabbed a fry pan. Thanks op! I love this site :')

  • only Port Macquarie left for Sydney! =(

True ozbargainer will drive and camp along the way.

Searching for Melbourne 3000: "There isn't a store within 500km that has your order in stock. Please select delivery" and "One or more products can't be delivered to your location. Please select pick up instead."

    :(

  • Got one at Castle Hill this afternoon, there were 3 left.

Don't do it. IT'll never be used.

    • +2

I use mine fortnightly. You'll never use a fork either if you eat everything with your fingers. It depends on the person.

      • -2

Just buy a packet of Barilla, Marta Stewart.

        • +2

I actually hate fresh Spaghetti or any other shapes compared to dried semolina pasta.
It's only used for lasagna sheets and there is no store dried or fresh version that compares in any way.

  • Sadly no scanpan items anywhere near Wollongong and no delivery possible either. Great prices on the frying pan - would have loved to get one to replace the Kmart cheapie we have been using.

  • Thanks for the deal OP. Picked this up and a drying rack and a pasta bike - $60 total! Had to drive 45 minutes to Capalaba to get it but a pasta maker has been on my list for a while now and I just had to pounce on this deal.

    • +1

No problems. I got it at Capalaba too.
