SanDisk Ultra 16GB USB 3.1 Type-C Flash Drive - $5 @ Centrecom (Officeworks Price Beat $4.75)

520

Posting this deal if you are looking for a spare USB-C Pen-drive like me. I got it price beaten ($4.75) from Office works QV Melbourne CBD. Couple of them more were available on shelf when I picked mine. Not as good as previous MSY deal, which was $8 for 3 Pen-drives.

From Manufacturers site,

Capacity: 16 GB
Read Speed: up to 130 MB/s
Interface: USB Type-C / USB 3.1 (Gen 1)
The super-thin SanDisk Ultra USB Type-C flash drive is designed specifically for next-generation devices with the new USB Type-C port. The reversible connector has a uniform design, so that it’s always right-side up, making it easy and fast to plug in.

I would gladly spend 25c more by not speaking to anyone. Am I a true OzBargainer?

    • Hand in your OzB license.

    • It was more convenient for me to get from Officeworks. If I didn't ask for price beat, it would have been $15 - the officeworks price !

    • You have failed Ozbargain!

    • but it doesn't include postage

    • You forgot about the hack.

You ask them to remove the usb and give you the packaging and you get it for free!!!

  • Does anyone know the read/write speed of this?

    • +9

sustained write speed is about 10 Mb/second. Read speed, sustained, around 130 Mb/second.
      at this price OK
when writing a lot to the drive, it gets very HOT, enough to fry an egg, or prevent you from logging into your phone using fingerprint for a few weeks, if you're not careful enough.

      • +11

That is a very specific example…

      • Can we have more examples in relation to your hot/scorched finger?

  • +2

Have used it. Not bad at all

  • Will 16GB be enough if I want to use it as a bootable media to clean install Windows 10 on my PC?

    • +2

      Yeah

    • +3

even 8GB is enough for this purpose.

Use this to price match, but don't touch centre com with a 10 foot pole. Apart from being banned here for sockpuppeting, they lied to me about requiring personal details for a receipt, claimed it was legally required, and when I threatened to walk out stole my name off my credit card and didn't tell me until the transaction was completed.

    • +1

What's wrong with having your name on the receipt?

It makes things much easier if you need warranty and don't have the receipt anymore they can easily find it for you.

It makes things much easier if you need warranty

If you keep the receipt, and have a bank transfer/record, you're more than covered.

they can easily find it for you.

If they want to. Don't ever trust a company to have your interests at heart.

It's not just your name on the receipt, it's your name on their database in connection with your credit card number (or the last 4 digits). This information is almost always sold to 3rd parties, or stolen, or whatever. They also wanted a phone number.

It's 2019. There are many reasons to be privacy conscious.

Well, every time I purchase something from Apple store with a credit card, the staff pretends to be nice and thanks me personally using my first name (obtained from the credit card - obvious without asking me first).

If you don't want merchants to know your details, pay by cash. I just checked my last Centrecom invoice, it says cash sales. The guy didn't ask my details nor phone number.

Unless you don't use credit card at all, and don't use gmail, hotmail, yahoo mail or other free e-mail services and never use Facebook, LinkedIn etc…, your personal details will be extracted and stored.

If you don't trust a merchant at all, but still have to use credit card, use one of those prepaid, re-loadable ones and put in only a small amount of funds. Those cards don't give you any reward point, but that information isn't so valuable. A lot of them don't even print your name on the card.

  • Couldn't price match as this has a shipping fee associated with it. :( I got all excited.

    • Yea. I in fact got to officeworks Parramatta [NSW] only to be told by one of the employees that we will have to add $10 shipping because it is interstate. I was like hmmmm. But have a look at the MSY site and match the price for this one. still works out well. I'd say match the price for 64 GB one. MSY is selling it for $15. Cheers !!
