Comodo Internet Security Pro 2011 1 year free

260

PC & Tech Authority magazine are giving this away (or providing the access for Comodo to give it away).

Previous Comodo stuff has been ok (the free firewall), and this gets a good rating from the mag (not that that means much). I'd say worth a shot.

The sandbox feature is a good way to secure a browser (among other things), but is a bit tricky to use. (I've tried the free Bufferzone Pro one with clients prone to getting viruses and it was too hard for them use).

  • +Remember this same thing cost us $4 on Catch of the Day ;)

    • Comodo firewall (at least) is a class leader compared to the CoTD drink coaster ;-)

    Windows, no Mac

    • +4

why mac would need an antivirus? I thought most mac users say they are immune?

      • +7

Macs aren't immune any more than PCs - PCs just have a way bigger market share, so virus creators don't see the point (yet, but that will change, esp. for iOS).

Microsoft-promoted myth I'm afraid, Mac OS X is universally agreed to be a fundamentally more secure system than any current or recent build of Windows.

Might be alright for someone trying to prevent passing on vira to their Windows-using friends, though I don't really see the point.

        • +1

Thats something we should discuss when OSX is the main OS for computers.
Then we will know if its better or not.

Basic common sense. If you were to create a virus to infect as many people as you can what would you go for: the platform over 95% people are using, or the one of the minorities?

      • Ignore av and firewall on a mac at your own peril…

      • Mac owners' false sense of smugness and complacency is misfounded. If there was a critical mass of Apple computers out there, you can gaurantee that they would be getting raped with waves of malignant viruses.

Also available here and here. The $500 guarantee is for U.S. users only (not that anyone should be that silly to depend on it).

Nothing to do with the magazine. Just go the website and its free.

@stellaoriens Lol, you obviously have a mac and maybe even feel silly for paying more for the "extra" security etc when its simply not true. Also, a microsoft myth? What are you talking about?? Give me your email and I'll gladly send you a script that will damage your system. In fact, its easier on a mac. Anyway…

That article is from macworld and explains your so called "microsoft spread" rumor. Seems like macword is spreading it too.

    http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/2029303/virus-mac-i…

Read that for a laugh for some proof mac users…

I actually use the comodo free package and I think its great. The firewall and the defense+ is awesome! With smart usage this stops everything.

Err… that macworld article seems to completely disagree with your comment.

      • read it again dude… they guy admits that the theroies are correct but not a concern yet.

"But until an actual exploit is in circulation…" admit that it will happen. just not yet..

  • For those that may want a commercial option for Macs - Intego Internet Security Barrier for US$39.95 (normally $79.95)

    Product Info:

There are free antivirus options available. iAntivirus, Sophos do one.

  • Great Av and firewall, I have been using the free version and will certainly take up this offer. Thanks for the heads up.

  • Now this is a bargain.

I paid $3.99 to COTD to get their CA internet security 2010 package…

    Some mystery prize that was.
