lol take15 off but your flight won't take off

Good deal if it can be used to pricematch with jetstar

    • if it can be used to pricematch with jetstar

Nah, they only price beat normal one-way sale fares without coupons.

  • Does it go by air?

  • thanks Op…perfect timing for vivid sydney trip :)

  • Think Tiger is owned by Virgin which is in turn owned by Singapore Airlines / Etihad which puts them in a difficult position. Notice how Virgin doesn't fly to Europe or Singapore because that is reserved as the domain of its owners.

    • Singapore Airlines / Etihad each have a roughly 20% share in Virgin, but not exactly sure what that has to do with Tiger.

Virgin Australia does fly to Europe through its codeshares with Virgin Atlantic

      • You know virgin australia & atlantic are two different companies. Just because Qantas and Cathay code share doesn't make them the same company.

        • Yes I'm well aware, but part of the reason they started flying to HKG was to take people to Europe by connecting with Virgin Atlantic. Hence, traffic to Europe is not solely the domain of Singapore and Etihad.

I'm sure that if it made economic sense for them VA would happily fly to Europe

          • @dane45: And it makes sense for VA to not fly to Europe but it makes sense for Qantas which is a legacy airline with a lot of legacy costs such as define benefit pensions.

            • @netjock: While I'm far from an expert in the economics of aviation, I don't think that it's as simple as you're making it out to be. A massive issue that comes to mind is that Virgin just don't have the long-haul fleet for a regular Europe route.

From what Virgin have said a lot of their current focus is on their domestic network, short haul international and building up their Hong Kong flights . A similar argument could be made for their direct Hong Kong flights - why would Singapore airlines allow them to launch this route when Singapore already flies there?

              • @dane45: Heard of bilateral air agreements? Generally speaking you can't fly between two countries unless one of the termination ends is in the country which you are registered / majority owned.

Few oddities such as Emirates doing Sydney than onto Auckland.

                • @netjock: Yes, I am aware of the 3rd and 4th freedoms of aviation. Those "few oddities" are 5th freedom flights.

It doesn't change the fact that Virgin's flights to Hong Kong compete with Singapore airlines who service passengers travelling Australia to Hong Kong by connecting through Singapore. Passengers on Virgin's Hong Kong flights can also connect through to many destinations in Asia (or London, as discussed) through their codeshares and internline agreements out of Hong Kong which further competes with Singapore. For example, Singapore airlines currently gives people a one-stop option for travelling to Japan via Singapore. Now that Virgin have launched their Hong Kong flights they have created a competing option for travelling to Japan through a connection at Hong Kong to their partner Hong Kong airlines.

                  • @dane45: Back to the main topic. Tiger owned by Virgin in turn with significant ownership from Singapore, Etihad and Virgin has a crap network because they are blocked by Virgin Australia's owners.

Therefore not many destination options in OP's deal.

  • Cancellation rate is nearly 10%

    Worlds worst. Not joking either.

    • Worse than Jetstar? I get the feeling you are right, but according to Skytrax and ProductReview.com.au, Tigerair actually gets a (slightly) better rating? Can you point to any evidence, e.g. comparison cancellation stats?
