    • Oops good point it was!

    No optical in..

    • How many bluetooth speakers also have optical input?
Seems like totally different target markets…

Decent sound, but about the price points you'd pay for. In other words, it's not a deal/bargain/great value for money even at $139 delivered. It's basically at around the right price point.

    • Can you point out the negatives to help us ozbargainers?

      • +1

Sound is a rather subjective topic, like wine. And I reckon most people, myself included, would be perfectly happy with it at $139.

But I also have https://swanspeakers.com/product/d1080-iv/ which is just a bit more expensive at $189 (or the bluetooth version https://swanspeakers.com/product/d1080-ivb-2-0-channel-activ… at $199) and the sound difference is immediate.

Just richer, deeper, wider range of sounds, the sound draws you in much further in. The Edifier bass is heavy, but seem to be lacking mids, according to my untrained ear.

Mind you I've only done about 12 hours on the Edifier R1700BT, so it remains to be seen if the sound improves, but I stand by my original claim. It's good speakers for its price, but I don't feel it's a "bargain" or "amazing value".

Also I'm not a audiophile by a long shot.

        • Yes boosted bass (likely boosted by DSP) will eat away at the mids, especially with small drivers in a 2-way design.
But this is likely what people at this price point expect, particularly the bass to be pronounced for a small speaker to be ‘impressed’.
(People upgrading from 2.1 channel computer speakers etc)

I would prefer the sound signature of the Swans over the Edifier’s myself. As you said it is all subjective.
