    thats crazy cheap

      • +26

Yes let's give massive discounts in peak season. Business 101 lol

      • +2

Yes, I can't believe they don't discount the flights when they have guaranteed custom over the holiday period!!1!

  • +6

Flights to US always seem to be cheaper when the Aussie dollar is crapper than usual lol

    • +2

Probably because tourists look at the AU vs US dollars and go elsewhere when it is bad.

    • +2

the average since 1992 has been about 76 cents. When I was working in banking a long, long time ago, the long-term average was 72.5 cents iirc.

Speaking from experience, crappy to me means 60c or less. Those were the days, the shlt days

      • +1

The increase in tipping % since then pretty much makes up for the gap in the current exchange rate to the bad days you're referring to.

      • My best USA trip ever was when the AU was in front. Lived like a rapper.

        • +1

Lived on the crapper from all the delicious bbq you could afford.

      • I had $1-$1 when I went to the US a few years ago. Everything seemed cheap. Their tipping culture sux though…particularly for Ozbargainers.

Baggage allowance should be 2x23kg bags.

  • Nice one !!

  • So cheap!!

  • Where would people go if they had a pretty last minute flight to LA?

    • +7

Rent a car, get on the highway, go to Vegas

      • +11

Rent a car, get on the highway, straight up to Six Flags with an annual pass :)

        • +2

Oh hell yeah! Six Flags is amazing!

    • +7

I would leave LA and go basically anywhere else nearby.

Like Vegas, the national parks, SF or really anywhere up the west coast (internal flights are cheap).

    • +4

Either book a cheap onwards flight somewhere like New York, or rent a car and do a California road trip (either south to San Diego, East to Las Vegas/Grand Canyon, North to San Francisco)

    • +3

      Disneyland, Universal, Lakers game.

      • +6

hahaha Lakers won't be playing anywhere near these dates. Better luck with the Clippers ;)

        • +1

Yes, you’re right. I’m a Jazz man so I will still be watching!

    • +3

We went last year for a week. Added $35 Southwest flights to Vegas, and $35/night at Casino Royale.

      • +1

Did the same but drove.. Car hire is around $20 a day.. nice 3 1/2 drive.

    • +1

Disneyland and universal especially if you have kids

    • +1

Then get a cheap flight to Mexico

    • +4

San Francisco's pretty great and is nearby if you've never been. New Orleans, Miami, New York, Austin, Nashville are all pretty cool US cities. Most domestic flights in America are pretty cheap (Southwest Airlines is awesome), as is car hire, as is Megabus. The country's your oyster. Damn why do I have work :(

  • wish i had enough annual leave.
virgin flight is better than united and qantas.

  • +2

    $613 for 25 April to 5 May

    • I’m seeing $683 cheapest?

  • +1

Dammit just booked for $840 a couple days ago with layover in Fiji on Fiji Air. No refund cancellation policy. Where's my ozbargain crystal ball?

  • +1

Are these flights upgradeable using FF points to either PE or J class?

    • Long haul flights with virgin are usually only upgradeable if you have Gold or Platinum status with Velocity

      • -3

anyone can upgrade as long as you have the points, but you can only upgrade from flexible economy which i'm 99.9% certain these won't be :)

        • +1

As dane45 mentioned, you need to be Velocity Gold or Platinum to upgrade VA 'long haul' flights using points. Anyone can UpgradeMe Premium Bid (with cash money) but it's not always available when booking through agents.

    Anything from Melbourne?

  • +1

    Need this in July!!

    • random question, but, the ghost inside?

      • +1

…are some hectic tunes. Not getting the reference sorry m8

        • They are having a reunion show in LA in July! Thought that might be why! haha

          • +1

@worthxwhile: Ah gotya! I'm having a reunion of my own with mates living in NA for the last couple of years. I jumped on the San Fran Air New Zealand flights last week but now need to find something for another mate. I am hitting up Lollapalooza though :D

  • Can you use points as well?

    • You can use points for lots of things

  • For those flying from Sydney the Virgins flights are VA1 (9.30 am departure) and VA2 from LA (departing 11.45pm) otherwise, if flying direct you will be flying on Delta metal.

    • Does Delta still have the 'Dont Expect your Luggage To Arrive' label?

    • -2

Does Delta still have the 'we'll beat the (profanity) outta you and humiliatingly drag your ass through the aisle' policy?

      • +1

        That was united…

        • +1

united has "no special meal and drink serve policy."

      • +1

To be fair, out of the millions of people that travel by air, some folks deserve to be flogged and dragged out of the plane

        • +1

personally i find it unfortunate that a lot more people aren't.

  • Good prices. Heading to LA early May!

  • Anyone able to find this price on VA metal both ways. I am struggling to find any days in June for the same.

    • There's one for $683, 6 June - 23 June.

Edit: Nevermind, just realised that it is still Delta metal through Virgin Airways.

  • No love from Melbourne?

  • Great price! Shame about the popups on the site.

  • hoping Qantas matches….

  • Found melbourne dates, seems to be Fiji airways though
