Hmm for ten bucks more I think the Bunnings one would be a better buy, anytime in the 3 years warranty just take it back to Bunnings and they will replace it, not to sure if SCA will do that

    • And if you've ever used a 350W drill, you'll know that the 500W drill is a better option anyway.

With cheaper drills like this one, check that the belt cover is made of steel. Some are plastic, which will crack or break off after a few years, making the drill unsafe to use.

Also, if you find the handles are coming loose, applying a layer of plumber's thread sealing tape to the threads will help. You may have to apply quite a bit of tape, it should be moderately difficult to put the handles into the central boss.

There's no way this has nine speeds. If each pulley has three steps, then the drill has three speeds. You can't make a belt go diagonal, it's not the same as a bicycle's gear mechanism.

    • Read the manual, 9 speeds
      500, 680, 770, 830, 980, 1100, 1600, 2000, 2500
Have to open it and manually change the belt configuration haha

      • I misread which one had nine speeds, so I see why you thought I was talking about the Ozito one. I was trying to comment about the SCA one.

I have a drill that looks almost exactly like this one, that I bought from SuperCheap years ago. It doesn't have an idler wheel, and only one belt, so it's a three-speed drill only.

Two-belt systems are a pain, the shorter belts mean there's less stretch in the belt, so it's more difficult to get them off the pulleys. I previously had one. And the idler wheel usually isn't spring loaded, so when replacing the belts, it is common for the first belt to fall off while you're trying to fit the second belt.

    • Russ, it is only $90.

      • When I bought mine, a few years ago, there were several available at the ~$100 price point. Some had plastic covers, others had metal. Hence my comment.

Unfortunately, you usually can't discover what the cover is made of until you inspect one in-store, it's not a feature that is listed in the descriptions.

  • Wish either gave the max travel. Would be a big help.

Would that be spindle travel? if so 50mm for the bunnings one

      • Cheers mate.

      • Wow, 50mm is nothing.

      • Total noob question…what’s spindle travel?

The maximum distance the drill can go down when drilling so the maximum the bunnings one can drill is 50mm deep in one drill press
