Foxtel Marketing, i hope you're scrolling through these comments.. you guys need to realise, even at this price, it's not as attractive. Get your act together, get some 4K content, or at least frakking 1080p! Don't charge extra for HD… you guys are a joke thinking it's a bonus to have HD in 2019.

On a side note, $48 is not bad at all, but when you add spotify/netflix/amazon prime to the equation, you're back at ~$100 a month on entertainment.

As me personally, Foxtel is last on that pecking order.

    • +2

48 a month is a joke i could pay for a spotify and netflix for 22 a month which js better entertainment add in 25 a montb optus plan i get optus sports and unlimited calls and texts with a top provider foxtel should be priced at 11 a month including gst for all there content

They would make up the difference from the extra viewers and advertising

      • +2

Got me stuffed why people are spending that same $11 (or much less) -which foxtel should be charging- on a vpn for torrents and "diverted" live sports broadcasts instead……

Netflix already showed them the way with their low flat fee. Foxtel are greedy grubs who rely on unquestioning consumers to support a US corporate cable model from four decades ago.

    • +1

They do have 4K content now… including live sports events and documentaries. Only 1 channel, but still, it's a start… and a shit load better than our "HD" free to air channels.

    • +2

Do they still have advertisements? I can't imagine paying for a service that includes advertisements.

      • +4

This is my biggest gripe, back in the day it was “pay” TV cause they didn’t get money from advertising but Foxtel is littered with ads now, so why do we need to pay still!

        • +1

Yep, now its a big feature on foxtel to not have to put up with ads.

          'Siren to siren ad free!

Which is only each qtr, so they still jam a heap of ads into the breaks.

          • @2023: Yeah, I guess it all comes down to the price they have to pay for the rights to sports now… Pretty sure the last NRL rights were over $1 billion, I'm sure AFL was probably more.

  • It’s not bad if it means no need for a broadband connection, which my Mum doesn’t have, and I get to use Foxtel Go on my iPad, in a different location, at the same time?

Link no longer shows the offer. This message pops up "Our online sales area is just getting a check-up…

We should be back up and running again soon! Please try again later. Apologies for the inconvenience."

Looks like they're trying to sort the different browser different pricing sorted. Ozbargained?

  • Our online sales area is just getting a check-up…

What kills it for me is just the Foxtel ads. Ads for Foxtel on Foxtel.

    • +2

American cable has been around since the 80s. They fed advertising into paid subscription TV programming, not enough people complained, so Foxtel decided to follow suit and so did its customers. They didn't complain. It will come to the likes of Netflix et al soon enough and not enough people will complain. The cycle repeats.

      • Jeff goldblum?

  • +2

Kind of surprising this is popular tbh, foxtel were cool before streaming took off on the internet, when you needed to walk in to a store to rent a movie. But now and at $50/m that's a decent internet connection.

  • How long does a new satellite installation take?

    • About 10 mins if all goes to plan.

      • +2

If you need a satellite dish installed it will take a lot longer than 10 mins.

        • Yeah I meant dish and all because I have only ever had the service on cable previously.

        • Not necessarily. I've had foxtel installed at three different places (including dish and wall antenna outlet at all 3) and took no longer than 10-15 minutes each time. It's not difficult.

        • +1

From launch to orbit is about 10 mins.

I used to have Foxtel and the biggest issues for me were the ads and only SD for on demand content.

The ads seemed to be even longer than the ads on free tv, and having only SD available on demand was a joke. Who would want to watch Thrones in SD ?

For me I use Netflix, Amazon prime video with an American account with HBO added using a VPN. It works with Australian credit card , just have to use a fake address.

A similar price but I can stream so much content from my Apple 4k in hd and no ads!

    • With HBO do you have to watch it through the VPN too?

      • All you do is change the dns server to the one the VPN gives you and you're good to go. You need VPN active to watch HBO.

    • On demand is now HD, but yeah it was pretty lame when they launched it with only SD.

  • Or split Kayo with a mate, $12.50 pm for HD AFL.

  • anyone with sport movie and entertainment wanna rent their foxtel go account to me?

    • I was about to say, this is a great way to offset the plan cost.

  • I'd like this over my $39/month sports package with IQ3. I guess I'll have to phone them and see if they'll do it.

    • What is the $39 a month sports package? Is it still available?

  • what is the deal with cancelling? If I move house before it's over do I have to pay it out?

    • Unless to relocate the service, then usually yes you have a cancellation fee.
Sometimes if they're feeling generous they'll relocate for free, but that usually costs you too.

  • How can I save from these offerings. Looking at my Foxtel account I am paying $92/month with no movies. Breakup is Essentials $53, Sport $29, HD $10 and I have an IQ4.

    • +1

Call them and threaten cancellation unless you get this deal.

    • Did. Apparently I have a carryover old plan that includes Lifestyle, Kids, and Documentaries, which would be $50 extra. A rip-off but the family likes the Lifestyle programs.

  • The price showing for me is $58.

Isn't it kinda illegal to alter the price based on who comes through the door?

    • Not at all. As long as they aren’t discriminating on race, sex, age, etc… they can charge whatever to whoever.

      • Do you have a reference for this?

        • +2

It has been legal since 1995.

          https://australiancompetitionlaw.org/law/pricediscrimination…

Electricity is a great example of where prices are varied for different customers.

          • @guidedlight: Interesting.

I am guessing though that because the price is an advertised price (online is considered advertised) they must honour the lower price.

I simply stated that that was the price I saw and I got it. :)

            • @OnAWhimTwo: It’s a bit of a grey area. But companies aren’t allowed to intentionally mislead customers regarding prices.

So I think in this case, it would be reasonable to expect that Foxtel would honour the lower price.

              • @guidedlight: When it comes to advertised price (including online), if there is no disclaimer such as "only in certain stores" or "until sold out" they must honour the price. even if its an egregious price error.

The rationale is a price error is equivalent to bait and switch. I have argued this quite successfully a few times with store owners and they have had to back down.

However discriminatory pricing such as charging one price in one store and a different in another store is legal. but I only thought it was legal if there is an obvious reason, such as freight costs. I was not aware the discriminatory pricing law had been changed.

                • @OnAWhimTwo:

When it comes to advertised price (including online), if there is no disclaimer such as "only in certain stores" or "until sold out" they must honour the price. even if its an egregious price error.

No, they don't have to honour it. In the case of a price error, a retailer can follow their individual store policy to address the mistake. This means that a store may or may not honour incorrectly priced items depending on their policy.

If a retailer displays an item with multiple prices, legally they must sell the product at the lower of the marked or displayed prices. If they do not wish to do this for commercial reasons, they must withdraw the good from sale until they correct the price.

So, in this case for Foxtel, they either must sell it at $48 (which was the lowest of the multiple advertised prices) or withdraw the offer from sale.

  • I’m with Foxtel Telstra.. am I considered an exisiting customer if I go directly to Foxtel?

    • +1

Yes, you have to cancel for 3 months

      • +2

They said that to me… but I joined up literally days later at the same address… so either their system that's designed to detect that doesn't work, or, they just say that and hope that people believe them without actually having any checks in place.

  • +1

Yep, says $58 for me. Tried Edge and Firefox, the same. Switched off my VPN, tried Firefox, now $48! Chrome is still $58 though.

    • +1

Chrome on my mobile is 48

  • Also the same with running apps, can go on the website and save much more for anybody interested.
Works with other subscription applications as well.
    Sorry to hijack the post!

I switched from firefox to IE11 now I get $48. As usual Foxtel sucks bigtime

    See update below

  • anyone with Telstra have success at getting this deal, let me know.

    • Nope. Couldn't do better than $59 for me. I just went through Foxtel directly.

      • what did you do to go with Foxtel directly? someone said there is a 3-month wait. Foxtel from Telstra here

        • It's a new service for me. I enquired with Telstra who couldn't match the $48 Foxtel deal hence I went through Foxtel directly. Install in a couple of weeks.

  • Ok I had a win YAY!

I went onto the online chat. Got the deal at $48 even though I am an existing customer. the only difference is I had to stay with the old IQ2 I couldn't get an upgrade for the device. But that's fine as we have a lot of old recorded stuff we don't want to lose.

    • Do you have foxtel throuh telstra? Or is it directly through foxtel?

      • Direct. I wouldnt touch telstra if they paid me to have it.

  • $25 a month for another box in the house is (profanity) stupid, imagine netflix charging you per device you use.

    • Yes but Netflix doesn't require a box of its own…

  • Called up to swap my month to month $39 special from last year. They refused to swap so I asked to cancel foxtel instead. They put me onto customer retention's who happily swapped to the new offer. I am locked in for 12 months though.

  • Oh no!! Signed up last week at $58p/m - to make sure I had a decent GOT and could watch the NRL/A league/Masters

Is it worth ringing up and complaining? They didn't even mention!!

    • Is there a cooling off period you might be able to just say you want to cancel if they don't match it? They might just match it anyway because it might be too much effort for them to cancel then resign you up

  • Just found out that Chromecast support comes at an extra monthly charge. Wtf?

    • Yes they charge extra cause people would just share the one account, like Optus with EPL ;)

  • can you have that plan minus the sport pack? I wonder how much cheaper it would be

  • Do they have online chat? My mum has this package (HD IQ2) with extra box & is paying $125 per month!

    • On the offer page linked above they have a chat (bottom right)

That's how I got the deal and just say $48 they wont ask you to prove it. if they refuse then say no worries thanks for your help now I would like to cancel the service. and then cancel it. your mum can re-apply get the latest set top box and the better deal.

I have done this before too.

  • +3

I was paying almost $120 per month for everything except movies (HD IQ2). I just rang them and asked them and asked if I could change to the $48 a month advertised package and they said no problems. took less than 10 mins to save $70 a month. Only difference is I won't get a new set top box because I am an existing customer. Have to remember that it reverts to $88 a month in 12 months time.

    • That's good… maybe they've changed their tune towards existing customers getting "new customer" deals. You didn't have to threaten to cancel and all that? They just gave it to you when you asked?

      • Yep, just asked if I could get the $48 deal and no problems at all.

  • Dear Potential Customer

Apparently you can get a cable into your house but the satellite signals for 4k can't be received at your address. So you are shit out of luck if you want 4k streaming.

  • hi guys have tried all sites etc still says 58$ how do we activate this deal

    Cheers

    • Safari and Firefox now showing up as $58 for me but just checked on Chrome and it still shows $48. The offer might be pulled before April 9 I'm thinking.

  • Hi All ,
I am an existing Foxtel Customer and at first they refused to offer me this deal. I asked them to cancel my account than they started to listen. I was actually ready to get it cancelled If they did not budge. I was on the phone for almost an hour but got what I wanted in the end. I got Sports + Entertainment + Entertainment Plus + Docos + HD + New 4k Box. Also Movies for next couple of Months until end of July for $ 49 a month on a 12 month plan.So for anyone currently on Foxtel and want a better deal.. Threaten to cancel and they should offer you what you want.
    Cheers

  • I called them as well and they offered me the same deal but I would have to pay $58 for the set top box. I thought that it was pretty crazy but this was even getting through to the cancellation team. I'm currently on 39$ for sports and HD. Kinda surprised they wouldn't budge on the $58 fee as I've been with them like 10 years and pretty much could get sports on Kayo or otherwhere cheaper.

    • You were doing ok with sports + HD for $39 we were paying $58 without HD before I got this deal.

  • I was on the month to month $39 special from last year. I called to ask to swap but they refused. Transferred through to disconnections who offered to add drama for half the price for a total of $49. I said I wanted it for $48 as per the offer - they then offered $49pm on month to month basis with price locked in for 12 months, plus 5 Foxtel Stores movies to be used within 12 months! Drama is also interchangeable with movies each month.

Note I still have the iQ3 so no new box but don't need it!

  • Just contacted Foxtel via chat, currently on the $39 Sports HD package and they advised straight away they could upgrade me to the $48 deal but could not upgrade the box to the IQ4. Stress-free process, done in less than 10 mins!

    • Edit. nvm.

  • +1

Looks like they've extended the offer to 30/4?

    • Looks to be expired now back to $58/mth.

  • What channels are in entertainment plus.. and are they any good?

  • I rang and they refused to give me entertainment plus and docos

  • Looks like the deal is back on :)

  • Ugh i saw it change from $89 to $99 while i was clicking through to buy the platinum HD plan.
