titanium finish for greater corrosion resistance than normal stainless steel …..this would be suited for the guy that complained in one of the threads that the mobile phone wasn’t waterproof and that he uses his phone in the rain ….

Stainless steel should really be called stain-resistant steel!

      • How about marine grade stainless steel fasteners? My local shop sell them I've always wondered about those

316 stainless steel is pretty good.

Here's how you tell if something can be corroded. Find its position in the galvanic series table. If there is anything between it and the "noble" or "cathodic" end of the table, those materials will corrode your material if they are in contact and there is some form of moisture between them.
          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galvanic_series

Note that there are many types of stainless steel. 304 and 316 are common, as are the 400 series (which a magnet will stick to strongly). The different types of stainless steel will corrode each other, which is why you often see corrosion marks on stainless steel cutlery. Some of the cutlery is a different type of stainless. And your stainless steel kitchen sink is usually a different type again.

That said, the galvanic series usually only lists solid materials. There are other chemicals in the environment, one of the biggest weak points for stainless steels is chlorides. Chlorides are present in sea water, ands can corrode stainless in an oxygen-free environment. For example, stainless steel bearings in an oil bath can be corroded if chlorides are present in the oil.

Stainless also means less than most people think it does. It only works if oxygen molecules can readily get to the site of new scratches in the surface. If you submerge a piece of stainless in stagnant water, and scratch it while it is under water, it will rust just the same as ordinary steel. So your marine grade stainless steel fasteners (probably 316 grade) will work well, as long as air can get to all surfaces of the fastener.

@Russ: I just learnt recently, that the magnetic qualities of stainless steel aren't (directly) related to the amounts of iron vs non-iron, but actually related to how the amounts of non-iron cause the metal atoms to create different shaped lattices - some shapes are magnetic, and some aren't!

Titanium coated, stainless steel blades….it's not going to be lighter, stronger or sharper
A Gold coated scissors might look better.
