  • My house is desperately needing a system. The tplink extender we have drops out after a day or two.

Any reviews on this one from users?

When you go wireless mesh system you never want to go back to extenders. Worth every cent.

  • I paid twice as much for the mw6. Hoping it's worth it.

Make sure you firewall everything off, block any outbound traffic from these. They call home to China and maintain a connection to communicate unknown traffic.
I lost interest in fighting it and mine went in the bin.

ps. firewall it at a reputable router, not from this device itself. that would just be pointless
pps. highly recommend the orbis. no phone home behaviour other than when I click 'check firmware update'.

    • Does it offer bridge mode to place behind another router/firewall? I read that the MW6 does but can't find info for the MW3…

I would first try Ubiquiti LR/Pro as they mesh is far better compare to consumer mesh network I have tired if you have budget for it. I have a few I have installed for friends/family that have well over 100-200 day up-times and it still getting firmware updates where as updates in consumer space is kinda a missed bag.

IMO, you shouldn't relay on proprietary software/hardware for your network if you have sensitive information on it.

    • Do you know what IP address and port it is using to do that?

    • How do you block any outbound traffic from these. I just purchased the MW6. Don’t want China knowing about my pornhub searches

      • i have a dedicated firewall between the NBN and rest of network. I block everything inbound and outbound, and whitelist specific services.
firewall log tells me all these damn devices trying to call back to China. The robot vac is a little shit too.

And they wonder why the US blacklists all their products. Can understand checking an update website, but some of the stuff getting sent back looks to be constantly streaming telemetry/monitoring type comms

        • Links as to how to do this please

  • I got the Kogan version so i believe this shouldn't be much different, basically i have to say its very impressive most particularly that a node can act as a LAN point anywhere in the house. For example, Modem is downstairs but security terminal is upstairs, you can connect that terminal via LAN to a node and basically you got a Wi-fi enabled CCTV that you can view on your phone. Impressive.
