Just remember this is edge lit panel - not good for HDR content.

You may want to consider the x90F - far superior

Google some review comparisons of the two

    • It will be fine for most people, but I totally agree with you I have a Samsung 65KS8000 And mine has a slight glow at the bottom I have to turn the backlight down and brightness not stupidly high lol

      • yes edge lit are very bad. when i bought a tv i didn't know about fald vs edge lit. my q6 has very annoying lines at the bottom too. should of just risked it and got oled, fuk burn in.

        • I've sold OLEDS since they were FHD and never seen one come back with screen burn it was a big marketing tactic by Samsung to create fear and increase sales. Now the other big guys have come across except for Samsung ha

          • +1

@solidussnake: no burn ins are real, but definitely not as dangerous as u read about online. according to my research just dont play games with large logos for long times and burn in won't happen.

    • I have to totally agree. My GF has the 55" version of this set and the HDR is terrible.

    I don't need a new TV… I don't need a new TV…

    • +5

LOL I also need to wait for one of the TV's in my house to die before I let myself buy a new one.. sigh. Have two big panasonics, both with the desire to live forever and perform perfectly though LOL!!

I await every day when the little one swings toys around.
We (mrs) and I parent him, but secretly I hope it hits the 2012 LG 52" 1080p screen……..one day…….one day.

  • Any thoughts on whether the JB Sony X85F 75 mentioned by OP is good value at $2996? Relative to TGG Sony KD75X7800F currently going for 1795.50 with the PLOT10 code.

I get that the JB model is better but I'm wondering if anyone would care to explain what the difference is, and how much they think the difference should be worth.

    • +2

I think 75 7800 is much better of a deal. Both ate similar in most ways. Bit 7800 has direct led 8500 has edge led.

  • Brilliant TV, and at a great price. Highly recommended

  • Should I get this, or wait for the 9000F version instead, or maybe for easter for maybe even deeper discount, I wonder

They're completely different class of TV.
X900F has better brightness, better colour, better processor, better HDR, better contrast, better blacks, and full array backlight dimming - hence why it costs more.

These IPS panels have better viewing angles and are cheaper. It's fine for things like FTA TV and sports. In 4K HDR, the X900F will absolutely blow the X85F out of the sky.

      • I'm not super fussy about image quality to be honest, but I do care about how smooth it runs (fps) since I intend to use it for playing YouTube video, stream like twitch, play ps4 games and pc games using chromecast/steam link.

I don't plan to use it for Netflix (since I don't use it) or for local TV either.

I do like having a bit more viewing angle although this one doesn't matter to me too much.

Do you think the 9000F is still worth it, or 8500F is plenty enough?

        • 8500F would be plenty.
I would personally go for a N8000 Samsung for it's freesync gaming goodness. It's also slightly brighter, better contrast, but not as good viewing angles.

          • @Jikx: Ah, I'm thinking of getting 8500f/9000f mainly because it's an Android TV. I've used android phone almost my whole life, so I figured if I have an Android TV, I might be able to do some things with it, and knowing that a lot of people sideload stuff into their Sony Android TV, that made it sounds good to me.

But fair enough, the one you mentioned seems interesting too

  • I’m trying to decide between this and the X90 myself not sure if the extra money is worth it

    • +1

How much time would you estimate you spend in front of the TV each year?

      • This one is the third tv going into an area that is mainly brightly lit most times. Putting it up on wall, so going for 65 and not 75. Very undecided on the two Sony's.

        • +2

Every source I've come across suggests the X90 is brighter, which would definitely help in a bright environment.

I asked about viewing hours because you'll find that once you factor in how long you spend in front of the TV, the decision is much easier. Unless you barely use the TV, the $500-700 investment in higher quality viewing is much easier to justify when you consider it as cost per hour spent watching.

  • This or the X78F 75" for $1800 ?

    • I have compared the 7500 on the shop to this .. the black level is noticeable… not sure about the 7800 though

      • Both models X78F and 7800 are samr according to Sony website.

  • I was about to jump on one of these, then I get reports of google ads are now showing up on the main screen. Can anyone confirm??

  • How is it compare with Samsung U8000?

    • Different. Similar brightness (Samsung has a little higher peak), same lighting method however different LCD panel technology.

The NU8000 has a VA panel which gives you great contrast at the expense of viewing angle and the X8500 is the other way around with its IPS panel giving you great viewing angle at the expense of contrast.

It really comes down to what you need. Viewing angles for a wide living area or contrast for dark room viewing.

  • Sorry for dumb question, but with this Android based tv do you get full Google Play store access, or it's cut down to only some apps? Would side loading apk work? Thanks in advance.

    • seems to be the full play store (its my only android device) but some apps say unable to download on your device when you go to install.

      • Yeah, I think Android TV vs Google Play. Have you tried to side load any apk - does it let you do it? Thanks.

        • +1

Yes you can sideload though I am not going to say any apk but I have tried a few.
I have a X90F and would definitely recommend that model.

          • @GaryG: Do you play games on the X90F? If yes, how is it?
How's the blooming in a dark room?
Thinking of buying the X90F as well

            • @OCD Completionist: Sorry not playing games on it.
I don't notice any blooming and find the viewing angles really good.

  • Nice op, android tv a little sluggish though

    • Probably depends on the model / processor

  • +1

This is a good price for a Sony 65 inch but think I will wait for the new Samsung 4k qled 65 inch to get cheaper 🤞🤞

  • good tvs other than google keeps pushing out updates to show ads on the home screen and sony ignoring it

  • go for this or the NU8000 Samsung?
both around 1700 for the 65" model

  • Sony TVs with Android 8 have ADS (sponsored content) now.
    You can't remove them.
