Kogan Came up with Their Own Membership Service "Kogan First" for $99 a Year

So the reason behind leaving shipster is that they want to charge you a whopping $99 a year for their own membership.

As a Kogan First member, you’ll get free delivery on 1000s of eligible products, upgrades to express shipping* at no extra cost and enjoy priority customer service.

Sorce: https://www.kogan.com/au/kogan-first/

You are entitled to free shipping on all eligible Kogan First products in selected areas (Kogan First Products). ‘Free shipping’ means free standard domestic postage (express and international postage is excluded);
If free shipping is already offered for a Kogan First Product, then you are entitled to a free upgrade to express shipping in selected areas for the Kogan First Product; and
Any additional benefits, which, in our discretion, we may offer to Kogan First members from time to time.

Sounds very similar to ebay plus

Kogan First Products are selected fixed price products available on the Kogan.com website that have been marked with the Kogan First badge. Kogan may, in its discretion, vary the range of items that are marked as Kogan First Products from time to time without notice to you.

Wait, is it April 1st, already…

I hope nobody signs up for this shitty service.

  • Explains why they ditched Shipster long ago. It's the answer to the question, why use someone else's program when we can have our own? Hopefully it doesn't mean increased prices, like how they do in their 'free shipping' promotions.

    looks worse than ebays service

    • Got a kogan TV for my sons room. Haven't had any issues.

Hooray, another reason for not buying from them.

The only time I ever made purchases on Kogan were when coupons could be stacked and I could get something advertised at $120 for $70-80. And even then, I didnt think it was a good deal when i finally got the product :-/

EDIT: Those free sim card offers and 365 day plans which could be purchased by stacking coupons were the only real value for money deals I ever availed on Kogan

    • Nvidia shield was a pretty good deal too. Especially combined with AMEX. But yeah nothing much on there that is decent price

Not a chance that this will sell at $99

Compare it to Amazon Prime which costs $59 a year and on top of free shipping you also get Prime Video and music streaming included in the price.

Plus twitch prime which then gives you Nintendo online

    • Plus a thousand books a month. Or am I the only book reader left in the world?

      • We are proud non-reader of books.

A wise man once said, "your brain gets smart but your head gets dumb".

        • Steve Harwell via Greg Camp?

          • +1

            @Daabido: Kanye West and Smashmouth

            • @[Deactivated]: Greg Camp wrote it, Steve Harwell sung it (Smash Mouth). I haven't heard Kanye West's version.

              • @Daabido: Ahh. Kanye West proudly professed that he is a "proud non reader of books".

I don't care for pop culture but it came up on my news feed years ago under "literature" interest. 😂

        • So, did a wise man once say it, or was it Kanye?

          • @Wardaddy: That was a wise man. Guru Harwell.

            • @[Deactivated]: What's a guru Harwell?

              • @Wardaddy: If you don't know, you ain't the sharpest tool in the shed.

                • @[Deactivated]: I take it that's some rap reference? I don't listen to rap, I prefer music.

30 Day Free Trial is available now it seems, shows up at Checkout.

    • Clearly the whole opt in approach hasn't worked and now they're looking to snag those who don't cancel before the trial ends.

Even Auspost have given up on Shipster and they had quite a few retailers (but lost Kogan to their own service).

    • Picked up the kogan powerbank 26800 60watt pd charger for $59 and signed up for the free trial to get free shipping (zipfree coupon didn't work with the charger). Can cancel Kogan First subscription through the website.

      • +1

Yes, you can. How many do though? If you have 30 days you will think perhaps I will buy more, so I'll cancel on the 29th day. Miss it, and you get charged for a year.

  • Another bad Kogan product.

  • Anyone know any way to get a trial still? Seems like the above method no longer works.

  • Crap forgot to cancel my trial!! :(

    Anyway out of this?

Sent Kogan a support ticket but they just pointed to the clause of not cancelling after 30days.

    • Nope, this is exactly why they run this scam. Nobody would pay for it otherwise.

    • How did you go with it? Did they give you the refunds? I forgot to cancel my trial as well, waiting for them to get back. Feel hopeless to be honest.

      • Yes, got my refund.
