    Has anyone used this before?

    • +4 votes

yes a lot of good reviews , not so much on power saving but more on fine tuning speed step to silent operation for sleeping

I just bought One, can’t comment, but the old post may help.

Yes- great fan. Excellent range of speed options including quiet modes for bedroom use.

Only issue is the overly bright control panel which you can't dim - a sticky note does the trick.

    • +3 votes

I have one. It is great - able to be set really quiet for use at night. Would recommend! And yes, as mentioned below, you can turn off the led by holding down the power button.

    • +3 votes

Yes we have 2. Nice quiet fan that we can run all night in silent mode and not wake up. (For comparison I usually wake up whenever the neighbours cat farts)

mines still working great after two years, not broken or anything. its pretty good. a lot better than cheapo fans

    • +3 votes

I have one of these, an excellent fan with a lot of power meaning I don't feel the need to use the Air-Con as much.

My only complaint would be the 12-hour automatic turn-off, I find this really annoying and unnecessary, especially when you wake up on a really hot night, in a pool of sweat, and find the fan has turned itself off.

Remember when you go to sleep to turn the fan off and then on again so you don't have this issue.

Great product and great price. Usually $119 plus delivery. When run at low speed, they give a silent, gentle breeze. At full speed they're no louder than a normal fan, but much more powerful in my experience.

  •

I bought one in last deal. Love this fan, it’s very quiet. I strongly recommend to buy.

Some people had issues with some fittings last deal iirc and had to return them.

You can off the bright light by holding power button 5 seconds or so.

    • +4 votes

Yes - but not from the remote. If you're in bed and use the remote then the display reverts to full brightness.

      Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Means you have to get out of bed, walk over to the fan and press the power button for 5 secs again to turn off the display. And then go back to bed. Which makes the remote useless for changing any setting on the fan if you want the display to remain off.

Great fan (I have 2) but the display is really bright in a dark room.

      •

Lol, what a strange thing to omit from the remote…

      • +1 vote

That's an easy fix with some electrical tape.

Or cover the screen in clear tape and then draw over it with a black marker, that should give you a permanently dim screen.

I bought the Kogan premium dc fan in August and the backlight turns off after 30 seconds or less. Maybe they have an updated version if it didn’t do that before.

    •

The light in this version turns off automatically. I've got two and the old one is very bright and stays on. The new one turns off automatically. It's quite good.

  • +1 vote

Any one know how this compares to the non-premium (features aside) https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-standard-dc-motor-pedesta...

    •

      These are good.
The controls are on the base and remote.
Enough speed settings. Not variable speed as premium.
My only complaint is not high enough.

Looks very similar to this model, any differences besides the brand on the grill?

    https://www.bigw.com.au/product/kambrook-40cm-dc-quiet-pedes...

Suspect this is Kambrook rebranded as Kogan.

    • +2 votes

The Kambrook has a different body and orange lighting (instead of blue) which shuts off automatically after 30 seconds since last interaction. Maybe other things - I only have the Kambrook. That is a about as cheap as the Kambrook one gets from what I have seen.

Not sure but they might all be rebranded Midea fans.

      •

Interesting thanks, but now is the orange lighting (instead of blue) which shuts off automatically after 30 seconds since last interaction worth an extra $30?

        • +3 votes

I haven't seen the Kogan but the build quality seems quite good on the Kambrook.

I thought paying the extra for something that wasn't going to irritate me was worth it. Others may feel differently.

  •

I have one and quiet on low speed good fan

  •

It’s an exact rip off of the Midea FS40-12HR which is now discontinued and the first of this new technology, that used to be $240 and I have a couple of those.

If it can even come close to competing with that one then this one is an absolute steal, have had a lot of compliments from the Midea, a few years later and it’s still going strong, no broken parts, doesn’t blow hot air, this Kogan one looks identicle in every way.
Makes me wonder why the Midea one is discontinued :/

Another +1 - excellent completely silent on the first 2 speeds, then speeds 3-26 it goes from $10 bunnings landfill fan to category 5 cyclone.

I'm a Grade-A tightarse and this is worth the money over all the overpriced rubbish fans sold at bunnings.

Awesome, wanted this fan last summer when the deal was on here, now my el cheapo has finally died I’m pulling the trigger and getting it this time!

  •

    Got it Thanks…

  • +1 vote

Thanks. Bought one last year. Bought another lol

  •

Thanks OP, very tempting. How does it compare to the non-premium? https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-standard-dc-motor-pedesta...

I'm looking at a new fan for the bedroom… the LED lights on the premium sound like a PITA

    •

Specs say they both are 28W.

      • +1 vote

I've no idea how or why, but this fan's 28w is like a gale, while a bunnings 28w fan is like a toddler miserably failing to blow out a birthday candle.

    • +2 votes

The $59 is not height adjustable and is quite small (805mm high) compared to the $89 model (adjustable up to 1390mm).
Also if you check the specs, you'll see the $89 model has a larger diametre/circumference so one would assume it has a higher CFM/airflow.

  •

Why are DC motors more efficient when running off an AC power source? When I bought a hairdryer the better models were AC rather than DC.

    • +7 votes

As far as i can tell an AC motor basically works by generating a rotating magnetic field which creates a moving electric charge in a squirrel cage rotor which makes use of the lorentz force to produce torque.
This process loses a lot of electricity to heat due to the rotating magnetic field creating eddy currents in nearby conductive material.

Would these discounted gift cards work for this?

Not much of a saving, but it's something.

  •

Hey, does anyone opt for the Freight Protection and extra long warranty options on an item such as this from Kogan?

    • +3 votes

If you choose Freight Protection, they will basically just add one more cardboard box outside of the box of the item.

    •

Starting to wish I'd stumped up for freight protection now with the extra box casing.
With all this rain in Melbourne I'm half-expecting to receive a soggy, disintegrated box with a wet fan inside…fingers crossed all's well.

Is this $60 better than a $20 fan from k mart?

  • +1 vote

Bunnings at Bethania were selling Arlec DC pedestal fans similar in spec to this Kogan, also at $89 (not sure if any stock left). Similar features, 9 speed instead of 26, and the Arlec has a button on the remote to turn off the display.
