That's awfully expensive for a pedestal fan, mine was $25 at Kmart.

$25 for a generic el cheapo fan that will fall apart in 3 months? What a rip off. This is a much better investment.

      • +3

When has a cheap kmart fan fall apart?

        • +10

Never. Have 3x Kmart pedestal fans I paid $13 each 3 summers ago, and still running like new.

        • -4

All the time. Used to buy them in Summer and they would start to bend and the blades would become misaligned quickly after time and would not blow at the optimum breeze anymore like it did when new. It would just be on but you would hardly feel anything, just wasting electricity. Base also loosens after time and it wont stand up straight. Dont kid yourself, you get what you pay for.

        • +13

          @Orpheus:

Maybe don't repeatedly smash your fan against the wall? ;)

But really, the cheap fans most places sell are so simple that its difficult for them to fail.

        • +2

My last one did about … 10 years?

        • +2

          @Orpheus:

…and would not blow at the optimum breeze anymore…

Was it blowing hot air? ;)

        • +1

@Orpheus: You're kidding, yeah? I have a $30 40cm fan from kmart that has lasted me 2 years so far. It is on most days, blowing air across my room. Hasn't skipped a beat.

        • +1

          @Orpheus: i believe u

        • +2

@Orpheus:blades misaligned? They are 1 piece moulded plastic.

      • Look it's certainly not a preemo fan but it's already 3 summers old.

    • +4

I like it! It is on the expensive range.
      BUT
      you do get:
      -a remote control
-26 speeds and four modes – normal, silent, sleep and smart
      8 hour programmable timer
      Auto shut-off after 12 hours
      -Blue LED display…

      • +8

Do you find speed 14 is no good, but speed 15 is fine?

    • The el cheapo often come with unstable flimsy base and can be lifted with one finger.
Could be a risk if you have a toddler at home.

      This one: 7.74kg
      Click 40cm Pedestal Fan: 2.38kg

      • +6

7kg hurts more it it falls, of course.

        • +2

Most of the weight is on the base, which make it way more stable.
I own both cheap and expensive ones and I can tell there is a big difference.

        • @nbn: less likely to fall, but when it does….

        • +1

@OzzyOzbourne: The top part is light so it will do similar damage compare to the cheap one.

    • +3

I have one, not Kogan. The only reason I have it is not because it is so energy efficient, has bazillion speeds and modes etc. etc.
I got it because it's a lot quieter.

      • I can vouch for this fan. I have 3 of them to date. Good buy in my view compare to the cheaper $10 fans. The breeze generation is much better.

  • +5

    Not a Xiaomi, not buying!

    • +18

The Xiaomi one has a battery so you can take it to the beach!

    • Mi Fan is like $200ish

      • +14

Will a Mi Fan really want to spend $200 to get a Mi Fan to be a real Mi Fan?

        • -1

WiFi Fan would be so good, turn on via Google Home

        • @asa79: Real Mi Fan will apply the Mi Smart WiFi Socket with $10ish Fan. And then, u can turn it on via smartphone, no extra cost : )

        • +1

          @asa79:

or just use the included remote control…

      • I know :(

Might buy this one instead if I can find something else at kogan that I need that brings the spend to $120.00

  • +1

Thanks OP. I had a $25 kogan voucher I wanted to use and free shipster shipping convinced me to buy.

  • Anyone use it before? Is this quiet?

    • +2

Yes very quiet. It's a great fan.

    • +3

      Website says 27dB.
For comparison: A whisper is 20dB
      Refrigerator humming is 40dB

    • +1

On the lowest setting it's inaudible, even when placed near you. On the higher settings, the noise is mainly turbulence from the grill which all fans have. You can prove this by taking off the grill….actually, don't actually take off the grill.

There seems to be some variation on the molding of the fan blades which makes some of the slightly unbalanced, but you can only tell if you put your head right next to it (visually unbalanced/you can hear it very slightly).

    • My fan just arrived yesterday. Good quality, very quiet on silent mode but LED light is too bright.

    • Given that at least 2 of us on here have been supplied units with wrong parts making it impossible to put together I'd say yes, it's absolutely silent when you have no way of using it.
I'm going through the returns process now.
I therefore find it impossible to endorse this in any way. Never again.

      • Sorry to hear that. May be i was the lucky one. Hopefully you can find a nice one

  • -5

Fans are useless in Sydney on hot days/nights. Better to invest in a portable air con if you want a good night sleep

Even better, invest in an $80k car with aircon!

  • +4

If this is actually a Kambrook rebadged fan then prospective buyers should check out the power savings on a DC fan, compared to a normal fan.

These numbers show much better electrical efficiency for DC fans.

40cm DC Motor Pedestal Fan - Wattage: 27 Watts

40cm High Velocity Pedestal Fan - Wattage: 80 Watts

40cm Arctic Pedestal Fan - Wattage: 40 Watts

46cm Gunmetal Pedestal Fan - Wattage: 50 Watts

    https://kambrook.com.au/collections/cooling

    • +1
    • So that 's about 50 Watts of saving (DC Vs AC). with all the assumptions, that would be

Hours of use per day: 8
      h/day
      1 kilowatt-hour (kWh) cost: 40

      Electricity cost per day: $0.16

      Electricity cost per month: $4.87

      Electricity cost per year: $58.44

    • +2

If this is actually a Kambrook rebadged fan

It's actually a generic that both Kambrook and Kogan rebadged with very slight differences.

    • +1

I have this fan (the kambrook one, but they're all rebadged anyway. I saw a third variant from a different company and it's the same fan…).

The power it uses is proportional to the fan speed. This fan can run veeeery slowly on the lower settings (since there are 26 settings), which doesn't use much power.

The DC/AC efficiency thing is bullshit marketing, more or less - I own one and on the box it has a disclaimer that says "the DC motor is more efficient compared to an AC motor similar size" … which is true for DC motors vs AC motors in general, but doesn't actually talk about the fan's efficiency in particular. I wouldn't be buying this fan just because it's a 'DC' fan - I would buy it because you can run it as low as you need it, and it's less noisy at that speed, uses less power, has auto power off, has a remote control….

That said it's a pretty good fan. Perhaps not worth the price for some users but unfortunately not many other fans offer extremely slow speeds (silent mode) where it's more or less inaudible (…well ceiling fan, is ideal, but you can't always have one installed). We have a couple and noticed that the fan is unbalanced on 2/3 of them, which makes it slightly louder on the 'silent' setting. But nothing to be worried about…

Also of note is that the base is weighted to stop it falling over, and the height is adjustable (although I never used it at a different height). On the most silent mode the noise may vary slightly depending on the angle (best when horizontal).

      • Some differences which I can't really confirm between the two Kambrook vs Kogan/midea versions:

        • the Kambrook fan turns the display off automatically after a while. The Kogan/midea doesn't?

        • the Kambrook fan remembers the last used mode. The Kogan/midea doesnt?

If anyone could confirm this, this would be great. The only thing I can confirm is that the kambrook display is orange, while the kogan display is blue, and the moulding around the control panel looks different.

    • +1

In fact this Kogan is Midea rebadged not Kambrook, eactly same fan with same material. another fact, Kambrook is a copy from Midea.

  • No Kogan any more. I bought a portable Kogan aircon on the long weekend. It said it would be dispatched on the Tuesday, now the week is coming to an end, it's still being processed in the warehouse. Kogan must have gone downhills since last time I dealt with them.

  • Anyone have one of these?

What kind of remote does it use? Infrared or RF?

In the off chance, has anyone managed to use a Logitech Harmony or similar to control it? Would be great to get some control through hass.io.

    • +1

I have a rebrand of this fan it’s a excellent fan I highly recommend it, but I couldn’t get i my harmony hub to control it, I think it just has basic non standard IR protocol. Also the remote is pretty weak it runs off a CR2032 so you have to be pointing it directly to the fan.

      • Which rebrand do you have?

      • How close do you have to be to the fan before the remote control works properly? The thing I hate about my old fan is that you have to be within about 1m range before the remote even works.

  • +1

Not so sure on that price, I'm sure I saw it for $69 once. "Lowest price ever" might be a marketing gimmick.
The blue LED display would be an issue at night unless you can turn it off.

There's something about the Midea FS40-12AR which looks suspiciously simi.. the same. Midea pressure cooker is great so this might be OK, albeit expensive. http://newcastel.heidigital.com.au/midea/product/16-in40-cm-…

I bought this fan from the previous deal $89+ shipping https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/357339/comments.
Today I received the fan, I would say it's outstanding. I would rate 10 out of 10.

    • even blind person can tell the big different, but unfortunately some peoples just pretend deaf and reject the fact. I am saying the technology in use not the brand, because I have a $600 Dyson fan (1st gen) as well, which is worst than a $15 fan.

      • +6

What job do you do that doesn't require English grammar, but allows you to splash out on a useless $600 fan?

Whats the best voucher around if I were to buy 2 of them? is there any better than 50 off 120?

    • Nope $50 is the best you can get

  • +4

Interestingly, Kogan have it for sale via Amazon AU at $98 with free delivery (possibly Australia-wide):

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Kogan-Premium-Motor-Pedestal-Fan/d…

Bought 2 and combined with $50 voucher off eBay, thanks OP.

Bought 2 and combined with $50 voucher off eBay, thanks OP.

        • +1

Thanks. I need to get some sleep…

        • No worries, there's plenty of listings on eBay so just grab one in the morning.

        • Does this mean he bought it FROM eBay? Amazon was doing a 10% off $100 spend, making this $88.2 from them. Saves Shipster cost. How did you get a $50 voucher please?

        • +2
        • @headphonejack: Righto. So only if you have spent $10 on that. Amazon will be the cheapest yet then. Thank you!

        • +3

          @lordra: Buy the fan @ $89 + $31 worth of other items @ Kogan = $120
Buy $50 voucher for ~$10 on eBay
          $120 - $50 = $70 (+ $10 for the eBay voucher cost)

Your total cost is $80 + shipping ($9) or free shipping with shipster (free 2 month trial or pay $6.95/month, so still works out cheaper even if you have to pay for a month of shipster.)

        • +2

@headphonejack: That is 100% correct & I got another $10 off by setting up a new account using the referral code above

        • +1

@headphonejack: oooo, so $120 worth of stuff for $80. Good deal! I have shipster, so may as well use it. Good idea. Now what on earth do i get at Kogan. I need funky colored led lights for show purposes for my bike. Lets go have a look. Plus CB on eBay will also help a bit.

        • @megaphat09: Great idea, I"m going to do this.

        • @headphonejack: WTB at Kogan! Darn it.

  • +4

Purchased one last week for the same price from Dick Smith.

It's a great fan and definitely very quiet on lower speeds.

However a silly design flaw is that you cannot turn off the LED display via the remote control.

Trust me when I say that if you're using this fan in a bedroom you will need to turn off the LED display as it is ultra bright blue.

The only way of turning off the display is to hold in the power button on the fan itself for 3 seconds.

However as soon as you adjust the speed of the fan the display turns back on.

    • +2

Tape is your best friend. Red tape. Glows red & makes it a nice night light.

    • +1

I swear, all these companies that design products for bedroom use never think to test them in a totally dark room. Every electronics manufacturer nowadays seems to think it's an advantage to put in LEDs that are as bright as the sun, too…

  • +1

Excellent fan 100% worth it, I had 3 cheapies and I can see the value in this fan.

  • +2

Thanks, it also let me stack the $10 signup bonus on top of the $50 off $120 from ebay (I spent $131 all up)

  • +1

Thanks OP. I ordered mine just now.

Was also looking to buy a Mi Band 2 fitness tracker. Combined the fan ($89) + Mi Band 2 ($35) + Free shipping with Shipster. Bought $50 Kogan voucher from Ebay for $9. So, ended up spending $85 delivered for both the items.

Yes, I know Mi Band 2 is not the cheapest I can get, but with the voucher discounts and faster delivery makes it a good deal I think.

  • To any owners of this fan (not a rebadged copy etc)
Does it remember its last setting, or turn on to a default?
We have the Kambrook, which always returns to its last setting/mode, and also an Arlec from Bunnings, which does not and starts at 18.

    • No, unfortunately it doesn't.

When you turn it on it always defaults to the Normal setting at speed 10

  • +1

Anyone considering this should take a look at another Kogan fan, https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-standard-dc-motor-pedesta…

I have one of these. For $30 less now, it's a great unit. Very light but stable. No vibrating. Almost silent on low, powerful on high. Good remote. Lights and sounds can be turned off.

    • +1

      Sold out

    • +1

Power consumption for the 4-speed Kogan Standard DC Motor Pedestal Fan for those who are interested:
      Standby:_______0.63W
      Slow speed:____1.9W
      Low speed:_____7.3W
      Medium speed:_11.5W
      High speed:____23.2W

I would have preferred a 5th speed in between Slow and Low, e.g. ~5W

  • +1

Thanks, bought 2. Now I just have to find some dark tape to dim that screen so I can use it in the bedroom.

    • Press the off button for a few seconds - will turn off LED while the fan will continue operation.

It's on page 4 of the manual

As i discovered, the manual is important with this item…

  • +1

Thanks OP..bought 1 and used 50 off 120 kogan voucher which is bought from ebay seller

    • What else did you buy from them?

      • i bought 2 Pack ElectroSonic Pest Repeller for $49 and used new account $10 referral as well

  • $98 delivered is a bit rich for a fan that has an ultra bright LED display. However, between Shipster & the $20 we miss you credit, $69 delivered to your door is a decent price. Thanks OP, been looking for a good fan, this will go well with the Mi Universal IR controller.
