Was legit on amazon 2 days ago deciding whether to bite the bullet on either this or the HomeSpot one but didn't want to pay $50-$60. Ozbargain answering my prayers once again.

  • +3

Looks like a giant nutsack hanging off the switch. Seems like it would get caught on things and risk damaging the port.

The Homespot one is a bit more but I'd pay it.

    • +1

It doesn't seem to highlight in the listing but in youtube videos I've watched it has like a little 180 degree arm thing that bends it around to sit on the back of the switch.

EDIT: that might actually be for the PRO version. Looking at their website there appears to be 2 products that look very similar but with some differences.

    • How’s the Homespot perform? Been thinking about getting a Genki but Homespot looks much cheaper and smaller. Genki has USB pass through but I could live without that. Anyone got experience from both?

      • +1

I only got the homespot, works as advertised. Smaller so looks much cleaner than this and Genki at the cost of usb passthrough. This applies to all 3, the audio lag is unbearable so make sure you got aptx. One of my headset has aptx (doesn't say if it's got aptx ll) and works fine but the qcy I wanted to use with it doesn't have and so I can't use it.

        • Thanks, much appreciated.

Man I was shocked when I realised the Switch didn't have support for BT headphones. We've come so far as a species, yet still have so far to go.

    • The $90 pro controller also doesn't have a headphone jack. So disappointing.

      • Coming soon

    • Agree. Probably want to save battery. Already pretty poor without Bluetooth

      • Doubt it otherwise there's be battery drains with these things, which there's none that I've noticed.

        • they should just put a speaker on the controller like the Wii :P

    • Guessing it would slightly increase the overall size/weight/cost and the trade off wasn't worth it.

      • The tradeoff is very worth it if you're trying to voice chat.

Or if it's docked and you want to use a headset. What are you going to do, run a 3.5mm cable from the TV?

        • Can definitely see where you are coming from. I use voice chat a lot, but I play seated in front of a computer monitor. Would be a 50/50 split between that and playing the switch in bed, so the cable never bothers me.

Not sure if Nintendo had online gaming with a mic in mind when they designed the switch though. I can see why people who use it for this purpose would see it as an oversight.

          • @[Deactivated]: Even if you don't want to chat, if you prefer headphones there's no practical solution for it when docked. The other consoles let you plug in headphones to the controller.

In handheld mode it's fine, just use wired headphones. But since Nintendo is insisting this thing a 'console' and not a handheld, the size/weight thing shouldn't be a big factor that trumps practicality.

Keep in mind that a phone which is much smaller than a Switch can fit all of these modules, so I really don't think there's an excuse other than Nintendo cheaping out.

This is just Nintendo being Nintendo. They do still have friend codes after all. And no achievements in 2019.

    • There's no point in using Bluetooth for games/video without propietary technology that must be licensed from Qualcomm or others to reduce lag.

Not that Nintendo has a record of paying extra for anything but Qualcomm probably wouldn't have allowed it on an Nvidia SoC to begin with.

      • Guessing they may be wanting to avoid legal issues with people who don't read fine print and start class action regarding audio lag and saying it not working as advertised

That thing is going to straight up screw your switches USB port. What a terrible design :-(

First wireless stereo bluetooth transmitter with aptX low latency technology for Nintendo Switch

Nope, that was the Genki Bluetooth adapter. Does this allow two users like Genki?

Adopts aptX LL codec to eliminate that annoying lag you may get and ensure smooth transmission with impeccable sound quality for excellent game feel either on Nintendo Switch handheld mode or TV Dock mode, wirelessly transmit audio anywhere, anytime

APT-X LL reduces audio quality to decrease lag.

    • Agree Diji.

      1) Yes. Also 2 users is great, & Genki sits flush with the console which seems better with less chance of damage to the USB plug. Bit more expensive, but I got in on Kickstarter discount which is same as the full RRP of this.

      2) APT-X is all well & good, but you need headphones that support that Qualcomm chipset. Of OzBargain "staples", Bose QC35 doesn't support it, & Sony 1000XM2 only does standard APT-X, not the Low Latency version.
Genki supports the same APT-X LL broadcast, but none of my audio speakers or headphones can make use of it.

  • Way better off with those often posted transmitters that use the audio jack and have aptx

  • I agree that the design seems terrible for handheld mode in Switch. The only usable scenario that I see is to plug it in to the dock when in TV mode. But then you would need a USB-C to USB adapter, which would make it poke out quite a bit. The HomeSpot looks way better but is ridiculously expensive at $59.99.

  • i bought this (with couple ard $14 usd) and it worked well with the switch https://www.aliexpress.com/item/aptX-Low-Latency-USB-Bluetoo…

  • Ingenious.

Can't believe no one's thought of this sooner.

    • They've been around for a while. This isn't the first of any sort.

      • For the switch I mean.
