Amazon - Still Waiting for Order to Be Fulfilled

On 25 February 2019 I ordered x2 10TB Backup Plus Desk Hub from this deal Seagate 10TB Backup Plus Desk Hub $250 Delivered @ Amazon AU

I'm sure shortly after ordering, the delivery date blew out significantly to 17 April 2019 as I would have noticed this date when ordering. I can't recall the original date, but it wasn't that long. As I wasn't in a rush, I accepted it. I received an email today saying "We're still trying to obtain the following item[s] you ordered on 25/02/2019". Now the delivery date on the order details states "Delivery date pending".

What is irritating me is this drive has continued to be marketed on Amazon as in stock. Currently, the page shows as in stock and you will "Get it as soon as Thursday, May 2 - Tuesday, May 7" Amazon link. Is Amazon engaging in misleading and deceptive conduct by advertising delivery date when they have admitted they don't know when current orders can be fulfilled? Or are they fulfilling these orders (at a higher price) and giving people who purchased it at $250 the run around with delaying delivery in the hope I/we cancel the order. My fear is by doing nothing, Amazon will eventually cancel the order on their own accord - obviously I want the drives.

So I'm wondering what to do now. Do I just keep waiting patiently or will taking a more proactive approach and contacting support about it yield a quicker result?

Ask support first. We're not Amazon.

I'm sure someone else here has gone through the process. I was asking here to see what advice they had from that experience. I wasn't asking people here for a solution. Thanks for your quick input anyway.

      • I have and Amazon replies with “it has been escalated” but no further feedback.

I’ve contacted them again for an answer.

I suspect, like eBay, they’re great for ordering but a faceless machine that doesn’t give two shits when it comes to things going wrong.

  • I purchased this too and remember it saying expected 16 April before I completed checkout. I don’t know if it was ever promising any earlier unless I was super late ordering anyway.
I accepted it too because I wasn’t in a rush, I’ll wait it out and see.

      We had our HD shipped
      to a P O Box #, &
      Amazon it it there
      ~the expected date.

      Maybe they have diff
      "fulfillment centres"?

      (Some can "run dry"
      before others…?)

      This could also ex-
      plain them "showing
      stock" on line…

      Or… maybe they
      "over-sell" reap-
      ing a small wind-
      fall hold'g your
      Cash, until they
      feel like ship'g

      Yelp.com & Tweet
      your dissatisfac-
      tion, & see if
      those -public-
      complaints get
      you ur product

    • Thanks unco, I knew there were other people who purchased the deal and would be in the same position. I think I jumped on it once it showed back up - definitely when I added it to the cart it wasn't that long, but as I mentioned, I'm happy to wait so long as I don't wait so long Amazon cancel the order which I've read can occur.

    • Excellent!

      (So, how DID
      you get his #…?)

  • Look, if that WD HDD is still
avail. for ~Au$228, buy it, &
get PayPal to refund your $$$

    You did use PayPal, …right?

Amazon don't charge you until it is shipped.

Sounds like the exact same stunt they've been pulling with the Synology NASs for a few months as well (see the forum post here). Seems to be a trend for computing products, especially hard drives and storage-related devices, where they drop the price on an item significantly, take on far too many orders, cancel some, ship some and then re-stock it at full RRP again shortly after "running out of stock".

  • Mine has just shipped.
