Boost Vs Telstra $45 Deal

Hey everyone, I’m currently with vodafone and average usage 8-11gb of data a month and I’m a 10gb plan so sometimes I will have to pay an extra $10 for that 1gb. I’m looking at boost and they offer a 6 month deal with 60gb data which can average to about 10gb a month for $100 with unlimited calls text and free Apple Music data. Telstra are currently offering the $45 deal and as a new port in customer I also get $200jbhifi voucher which is great as I always buy my games from there so it’ll be $340 for the year pretty much with the jbhifi voucher. Would you reccomend the $100 6 month boost deal or $540 whole year Telstra deal + 200 jbhifi coupon. I’m also a student at uni working casual if that may impact it.

    $200 vs $340. Bit of a no brainer, isn't it?

    There's also the Boost $300 12 month deal if you're worried about using more data.

    240GB = 20GB/month

    Even that is cheaper than the Telstra option.

    • Thanks a lot for the reply, I was considering the Telstra deal as it had more data and apparently has additional perks such as cheaper tickets is that true at all?

        That deal was apart of “Telstra Thanks” However, according to Telstra it will no longer be available:

        Telstra Thanks® is moving
        Your favourite Telstra Thanks® benefits are moving to Telstra Plus. You can still enjoy Telstra Thanks for a while longer.

        Find out more: Telstra Thanks

  • Do you watch AFL or NRL? Telstra has free app and quota-free streaming too… and Telstra Thanks for the time being for cheaper movie/sports tickets (until they replace it with their new loyalty program)

    • I do watch nrl every Friday and Sunday however, haven’t watched Saturday matches due to not having Foxtel. I would start watching it again if I did get the Telstra deal for sure. Is Telstra thanks any good? I go to concerts a lot apparently you can get cheaper tickets from ticket tek is that true?

        you most likely won't end up using it as it is moving to the loyalty program soon.

        One thing you want to be aware of is that you wont be able to AirPlay/Cast it to you TV as its limited to only being able to watch it on a Phone/Tablet.

        • You can stream to your TV if you have a Roku box. Free activation for Telstra customers.

  • Just noticed a $29 / mon deal (on OzB)
    includes 5th Gen 9.7" 32 GB iPad.

    20 GB data / month, from memory

    (Your extra $10 data-fees must add-up)

    Here it is:

    Don't need the iPad, so sell it;
    put $$$ aside for monthly bills.

    • Thanks, would this include calls though or just data?

    • 20 GB data / month, from memory

      Data only Sim as it's for a tablet/mobile broadband, in this case, an iPad.

      Don't need the iPad, so sell it

      You won't be able to as it's owned by Telstra and you are leasing it.

    For new port-in customers, you can request for a $10/month discount to your bill. Total would then come to ($35/month: $420) -$200 voucher = $220 for 12 months. Refer to comments in: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/407199

    • That's really tempting, my contract with Optus is ending in a few months.
      Been needing to switch to Telstra due to reception when travelling.
