  • bought the Tokyo Treat Candy Box, but then realize it is a subscription service, anyone tried them before?

    • +1

Tried ages ago paid the normal subscription price. I didn’t love it. It was too expensive. But they may have improved it since. For $17.50 I’d say it’s a great deal but I would not pay the full price ever to continue with it.

Better off saving the money and going to Japan

  • Any idea why I couldn’t find the Tokyo treat deal on my Groupon app, but can see it when I use the link in description?

Edit: never mind, I purchased via a computer so I can still get cash rewards

Good deal on Vaya. Twice data than amaysim for similar price. Anyone had issue with its online porting? Thanks

    • +2

Haven’t heard about porting issues but lots of billing and excess data complaints. I was with them and had no issues though.

      • They don't cut you off when you go over, from memory they now bill you in $10 a gb increments but expect your bill to be more than 6.95

      • I was with them, got overcharged for excess data, took months of fighting for them to finally fix and refund (talking MANY hundreds of dollars overcharge here). You get what you pay for with these guys (edit: actually at least in my experience you get far less than you pay for and you will pay!)

        • Was it before or after Amaysim bought them?

          • +1

@dotJaz: before. have they gotten better since? I still wouldn't touch them EVER again.

Got a tokyo treat, here is how to cancel:

    https://help.tokyotreat.com/hc/en-us/articles/360008884753-H…

    • can you cancel immediately and the parcel will still get delivered?

      • Yes, I canceled right after booking it and 2 hours later I got an email telling me that it got shipped. I Created an account before putting in the Groupon code to be sure it would go smoothly

Strongly recommend avoiding VAYA. They fucntion like a post-paid sim and bill you. Twice I have had a hit to my credit score over unpaid balances as small as $16 where I have thought I have finished with the Sim but the billing has continued.
    Not worth the hassle.

    • +3

Yes avoid Vaya at all costs.

    • +2

They also make you buy extra data before you reach your limit.

  • +19

Vaya are scammers, beware of them. They charged me at least $200 years ago when I was on a plan with them saying that it was a security deposit and they would refund me, turned it out was a way for them to take peoples money. Avoid them at all costs.

this company has some pretty shot business ethics.
my personal experience from a few ticks ago.

  • +15

We've only been through a Vaya discussion a few days ago - heavily negged, and there was a reasonable suggestion to ban them from OzB.
    My neg reason:
They will keep charging you after you port your number out, even when the service was prepaid with a voucher! I had to fight them to have the bill cancelled. Their business model is to plug into your credit card and start mounting dodgy charges and fees. Stay away!

  • Is the tokyo treat worth it at all (just 1 month)

    • +1

For exotic treats from Japan, $18 including international shipping is an alright deal for me. Imagine the amount of snacks you can buy with $18 in Australia and the difference is not that much.

      • Alright, screw it just bought

        • And it's only $15 after cashback. My friend once brought me this crazily good KitKat from her subscription box. I'll wager $15 for some sick treats

  • An alternative to Tokyo Treat is bokksu though I am not sure if it's necessarily better. Have never tried.

    • IMO from what I've seen bokksu has more unique snacks from Japan vs Tokyo treats that connects snacks from big brand manufacturers (ex Kit kat). Nothing wrong with these, but bokksu may be more appealing for someone looking for something a touch more special.

Avoid Vaya, terrible experience with them.

Just a heads up Vaya charge data by the mb so any amount of data you download, whether it be a single byte or kilobyte will be a mb.

Source: used them a few years ended up with $100s of data fees from a single night of just having a few background apps open on my phone.

  • +2

Had annoying, re-occurring issues with Vaya, who insisted on penalising me for something that was their own fault.

I would avoid Vaya even if they paid me to be on their network.

  • +4

If anyone can confirm that they had a clean in and out with Vaya I will change my vote to a positive but my experience is that they use not just illegal but obstructive practices to get you to pay more than you applied for.

Very shady and honestly no different to somebody pick pocketing you in broad day light.

They didn't cancel my subscription after calling, emailing and talking with live chat support.

It took many tries and eventually just getting a new debit card and paying off fraudulent fees to get rid of them.

Basically paid to get rid of them so I am not touching this company ever again even if they change or phoenix into a new company.

  • We've been with Vaya Mobile for more than a year (since end of 2017), pretty happy thus far. We are not heavy mobile users and have not encountered any issues with data or data charges. If I need customer support, I just use the Live Chat on their website.

I have recently moved to Jeenee Mobile, rest of my family still uses Vaya. No issues when switching. If I wasn't so cheap I would go back to Vaya, had better reception with Vaya. Moved from $16/month Vaya to $9.90/month Jeenee.

If you want more control over your data usage, go with Jeenee Mobile! You can turn off excess data in account options on their website. Pretty handy if your kids have mobile.

I have been with Vaya since Nov 2013 and never had any problem, the complaints regarding Vaya is often overblown and exaggerated. Vaya gets my vote!

    • +3

I wouldnt say overblown and exaggerated, they are the truth and it is why they deserve those complaints.

You could of been one of the lucky customers that had no issues because there wasn't really anything to complaint about for you.

But once you've got something to complaint for, they'll throw you under the bus.

  • Can you activate the Vaya aim card without providing any credit cards details?

    • No you can't.

  • Is anyone else having trouble redeeming the Tokyo Treat Groupon? The code is taking forever to load…

  • +1

Ah, Vaya trying to become relevant again, yeah, nah.

  • My Tokyotreat box has arrived today. Around 3 weeks since order. Great delivery time

    • Same, got the salted chips though like 99% of others on insta, only saw one person with the pizza ones.
