does it still let you play music once one of your ink cartridges is empty or does it just refuse to do anything like most other printers?

    • +6

Related question: Does it flush the print head every time you play a song?

    • +7

I hate printers. Still remember a brother printer I had, that I never wanted to print color, but refused to print black until I replaced the cyan cartridge…

I legit wouldn't be surprised if this would so playing music and just tell you it needs ink

      • +8

        It's 2019 and printers still doin't work.

        • +22

          Neither does autocorrect

        • +6

In Soviet Russia, the printers play you!

          Oh, wait. That's everywhere.

        • Laser printers do. Inkjet are a PITA.

      • +1

They all play music when they need money.

  • +2

Cheap! Good value even if you only use the included ink and then use as a speaker (or sell it on Gumtree), reviews say sound quality is good.

  • +1

    Got one - Thanks op!

    • got one too as a Bluetooth speaker 🔈

  • +1

    Thanks bought one

  • +4

Are you able to use generic inks with these, or are they hard wired to take only proprietary HP inks? Can anyone advise on this.

    • Hard wired? Ya mean chips req?

      • Chips? You mean microchips?

  • +14

great price.. ill leave them for someone who really wants one… i just cant see myself using it.

    • +3

I need a printer from time to time…
But out probably cost me about $2 a year at officeworks, and only if officeworks is closer than my work place.

      You've convinced me I don't need this.

  • 1st Listed Key Features: Duplex printing!

What consumer inkjet printer cannot support manual duplex printing?

  • +1

    Bought one cheers!

  • +10

I reckon this would be good as a practical joke.

The look on some people's faces I know when they hear a printer playing music

  • +1

    Great find!

  • Thanks OP.

  • +1

Anyone knows if there's AUX in?

    • +1

Nah unfortunately not. I just got one anyways. At this price, it's a steal!

  • +2

    Cheers OP. Grabbed x 2

  • +2

    Nice needed new ink!

    • Not very relevant, as you will still need ink - it only comes with a setup cartridge some people report it does 20-40 pages… approx $1 / page if you bought it just for ink is not a bargain.

      • +4

I believe those people are incorrect.

        Description says:

HP 803 Setup Black Cartridge (~110 pages)
HP 803 Setup Tri-color Cartridge (tri-color composite yield ~100 pages)

My previous $19 HP printer did over 100 pages both black and colour. So, from personal experience, description is almost spot on! I purchased 2 at the time, and that one is still going lol, so more than 100 pages from memory.

        • I don't think its that simple. I believe HP used to state their page estimates are based on 5% page coverage… i.e. light amount of text… i'm guessing you printed a lot of documents not images to achieve the result you got.

Divide the number of pages by as much as 20 if you are printing full page brochures / images etc and it could be as low as 5-6 pages (i.e. of each ink remembering black is separate etc) from a setup cartridge before one of the inks starts complaining.

Moral of the story, it varies widely based on what is printed.

If a setup cartridge is about 1/3 full… i still think a lot of heavy ink users printing a mix of images etc would be lucky to get 40 pages.

          • @MrFrugalSpend: You're right, mostly documents, not full page brochures at all. I don't think I ever have.

I'll monitor my usage with this, but I'll get my monies worth for sure.

  • Grabbed one!

  • +1

    Thank you. got one

  • Does anyone know if it can scan?

    • +3

No, the idea as stated on the page is to use your phone as a document scanner and print wirelessly.

  • Cheers, got one as well. Luckily I live 10 minutes walk from the flagship store.

    • +18

First time I've heard the word 'Flagship' used to describe a HN store.

  • Thanks bought one as rarely need a colour printer but love the convenience of my current HP laser jet with air print.

Does anyone know if these will work? It claims compatibility…

with this printer, can you print pdf from any laptop without installing drivers or software or program ?

    • +3

Yes they work, the printer will tell you to get official ones but doesn't stop it from printing

  • +1

    Grabbed one! Thanks

  • +2

Thanks OP. Been looking for a cheap printer. Great price!

  • +2

Just when you think you've seen it all HP pull this out. Tempted just to buy it for the speaker alone.

  • Thanks Op. Ordered one.

  • Any suggestions on a cheap printer that also scans?

    • Cartridge Number HP 65

      Click Specifications.

      https://www.harveynorman.com.au/hp-amp-120-printer-black.htm…

      • Yep, thank you. Only saw that after posting. Didn't realise HP 65 was its actual name

Might just buy 2 then, cheaper than buying ink lol

        • Might just buy 2 then, cheaper than buying ink lol

That's not how it works. The ink supplied with printers is not a full cartridge but a 'trial' smaller size one with much less ink.

        • not really. The printer only comes with starter ink. Print 110 pages max. The retail ink can print way more for around $20

          • @runamuck: New ink non XL cartridge says can print up to 120 pages, cost $25
So if the ones included can print 110 pages then thats not too bad?

            • @OCD Completionist: In this case, its better to buy 2 printers

HP 803 Setup Black Cartridge (~110 pages)
HP 803 Setup Tri-color Cartridge (tri-color composite yield ~100 pages.

A standard (black) cartridge is like 29$, and prints up to 160 pages.
U also need to spend on tri-colour cartridge

            • @OCD Completionist: i don't get it.

is this printer using HP 65 cartridge or 803 ?

              • @dcep: The spec says 803 but the other may also be compatible ??

              • @dcep: HP 803 is only the startup setup cartidge model. That's specially made as the starter cartridge.

The full cartridge for it you buy from the likes of Officeworks, JB, Harvey Norman etc is either HP 65 or HP65XL. It's the one you will use when you chuck out the starter cartidge.

But in my opinion $45 for the HP 65XL (300 pages max) is not economical with 15c per page for black at least. That's a rip off compared to what you can get on a laser printer.

                • @hollykryten: Just wondering if I can refill in the 803, or I need to buy a HP65 for refill?

                  • @xxau: You would probably need a new ink cartridge chip as it probably keeps a record of the pages printed and won't print again even if the cartidge is refilled.

                    • @hollykryten: That's really a rip off, $24+$45 cartridge, the price is almost tripled.
I was considering buying it if I can directly refill the setup cartridge.

                      • @xxau: you can prolly find 'generic' hp65 on ebay

  • +1

Thanks OP! Ordered one for pick up.

  • +4

Buy any HP printer once, regret often.

Most crazy ink prices, and very hard for non-oem to support

  • Waiting for the MLC version…

  • +1

    Thanks OP.
    I'll give this a shot!

  • +3

    Thanks OP.
Free shipping with shipster if you buy 2or spend over $25

    • Did they remove the delivery option? Can't actually see it on the web page now

      • Removed. Was there when I bought 3-4hrs ago.

  • +1

It may be a bargain but the printer cartridge only lasts 120 pages max.

    • They never give a full cartridge with a new cheap printer. The actually cartridges will print plenty.

      • +3

Oh well even the high yield HP65XL black cartridge (around $45 retail) for it only does up to 300 pages max. That's not plenty. About 15c per page. That's not economical at all.

        • Wow, that's terrible.

  • +2

lmao at the bluetooth speaker, HP must be desperate

  • +10

Picked up a brother compact laser printer with 80% ink and an extra unused genuine cartridge (2000 pages ) for free from someones front yard in Erskinville

Has a nice note on it : working printer and free cartridge looking for new home

    I gladly adopted it 😂😂

Ozbargain legend easternculture lives in the Inner West? Amazing!

    Bought one, thanks OP!
Local store actually had it in stock which is a nice change.

  • How many pages you can print with included cartridge?

    • +1

Step 1. Click on the HN link
Step 2. Scroll down to the spec section
      step 3. Read

      ;-)

    • HP 803 Setup Black Cartridge (~110 pages)
HP 803 Setup Tri-color Cartridge (tri-color composite yield ~100 pages), Speaker

  • +1

Bought it with dusting wipes($2) to get free delivery with Shipster.

  • Anyone has ideas whether the cartridge can be refilled?

    • There are videos showing the refill hole under the sticker (google hp803 cartridge refill)

  • Speaker quality… lets just say $24 printer that makes 'sound'.

Honestly, I shouldn't judge it too harsh at the price point, but it just sounds muffled and flat.

    • +1

Good to know i guess better with then without

  • +1

Legit just bought 2 even though i have a laser printer already … Im a sucker for a deal

    • +2

      always go stereo 2.0

  • I'm tempted to get one just cause of the speaker, but i already have a printer :( first world problems

  • +2

I find it funny that they changed it to 2 per customer. Were people legit buying more than 2? I mainly bought two due to shipster

    • +1

Doesn't Broden always buy more than 2?

  • Wow great price !

  • Forgot about shipster any idea if I can still my invoice from HV to shipster to get it shipped as I got it for click and collect?
