earn useless qantas points and in the mean time lose less than the value of imaginairy internet points in actual australian dollars

      I beg to differ.

I get a very fair conversion rate with Citi Global Currency account every time - far better than any exchange place including Crown and marginally less (say by around 1%) than Coles Mastercard's no-fee rates. Link a Citibank debit card to your currency account and you have a travel card that offers decent conversion rates.

Get screwed in FX rates in exchange for funny money points? Yeah no thanks.

  • So if you put $20k AUD in and take $20k AUD out, what does it cost?

    • It doesn't matter, AUD is not foreign currency so you'd get nothing for your troubles at all.

    • Nothing but you don't get any bonus points. Only for foreign currency.

after conversion there and back you'll end up with about 17,500 and a bunch of useless internet points

Stop saying the points are useless. My "churn and burn" credit cards earn me enough points for few business flights already. You just need to play their game, your way not theirs.

This is not a good deal. Much better off with something like a Citibank Plus card which is based on the cash-rate not 'FX's own rate.

For example, if you took up this deal and put $2000 on your exchange card, you'd get 2,000 QFF points, worth about $20. But, you loose $200 from the poor exchange rate.

  • I thought I got an email from Qantas Money recently that detailed no overseas transaction or ATM fees for the next 3 months? Can anyone confirm or deny? Would be a good deal if so with anyone traveling soon.
