I think the previous cheapest this has been is $59. Looks like free delivery if your order is over $49, I have Prime so I don't know how much delivery costs if you just want to grab the Dot.

2 for $79 deal is still ongoing.

  • Amazon Echo Dot (3rd Gen) $44

Google Home mini for $3.60 is better value…

    • +1

Haha yeah, I grabbed one of those as well, but the Echo Dot is a lot more useful to me because I can connect it to existing speakers via the 3.5mm jack.

    • Where is it $3.60? Not Spotify?

      • see below.

    • Can you link me to the instructions for $3.60 please?

  • Same price at JB Hi-fi. I wonder if other retailers will follow.

  • I got two of these recently for $79 from Amazon and I found that it has real problems with Spotify, it will play 3-4 songs in a playlist and then stop and you have to ask Alexa to resume playing again. Is anyone else having that trouble or know of the solution?

    • Use the Spotify app to manage and stream the playlist to the Echo device.

      • They kind of defeats the purpose of having an assistant do it for you… Might as well just stream to a bluetooth speaker.

          1. Audio quality of Wi-Fi streaming > audio quality of Bluetooth streaming.
          2. This is a solution to a specific problem. I don't know if this is the optimal solution. Whether or not this solution is acceptable to WeiKaiLe is up to him to decide.
          • @alvian: Thanks Alvian for your reply. I believe you're referring to the "Spotify Connect" option, where you ask Alexa to enable "Spotify Connect" and the Echo Dot appears as a device you can select within Spotify on your phone.

I haven't tested how that works with beyond checking that it worked to connect and start playing for non-linked accounts, so I'll have a look at that for the linked account. I did notice that if I started the stream from the echo and then chose songs, changed the music on my phone that this wouldn't alleviate the problem and it would still stop.

It is certainly a negative for its usefulness for my parents, who I got the echo dots for, as they are technology illiterate and were so happy they could talk to it to start listening, even if getting the command right was a struggle for them.

    • is that the dot or spotify or your internet?

      • asa79 - I did find other people suffering this same problem but there was no solution on the pages I had found. It does appear to be a problem with Alexa/Echos and how it interacts with Spotify rather than the internet connection. For example, internet radio through TuneIn works flawlessly.

  • Can't play Google Play Music from this?

    • Nope

      • Damn, I like using my Google Home Mini for playing music, but the speaker quality isn't great. Would be awesome to be able to connect to some decent speakers via Bluetooth or 3.5 mm cable. I believe the Echo Dot does this, but no Google Play Music is a deal breaker.

        • google home has bluetooth to bluetooth speaker

          • @asa79: Oh so it does. It didn't when I got mine in 2017. I only recently started using it again. Bluetooth is cool, but 3.5mm jack would be better :)

  • Back to $79 a pop.
