Recommendations/deals for Dishwasher

Looking to replace my old dish washer which stopped working. Please share any recommendations/deals for a dishwasher. Thanks you!

Currently I'm thinking of the one from Bing Lee at $688:

BOSCH - SERIE | 2 SMS40E08AU - 60CM FREESTANDING DISHWASHER

Any thoughts please? Or better deal option within $800-1000 mark?

Hopefully we will see some 15-20% off eBay deals soon so trying to narrow down to couple of options.

  • Bosch is good brand. Just check some of the cheaper ones are made in Hungary vs Germany.

    Check Appliances online?

    • The series 8 stuff is generally made in Germany (exceptions apply).

The non series 8 stuff is generally (fairly certain all) are not made in Germany.

    Going to be controversial…

We purchased an ASKO dishwasher six years ago, one of the best decisions we made when buying a house. The build quality, way it washes, ease of loading and general build quality is amazing.

My view… this is a long term purchase, something you will use daily and its worth IMO paying a little more for :)

  • I see dishwashers (and other appliances) as consumables. Lucky to get 5 years out of them (sometims a lot less). So I don't think spending big bucks is a good idea.

Our current dishwasher is bosch and it's one of the best we've had (a $3000 smeg was the worst by far).

I think you will be happy with Bosch(they are super quiet and you need to put your ear up to the dishwasher to hear them work).

    • Just be mindful the earlier series of Bosch (serie 2 and 4) are made in Turkey (not Germany) and all have a plastic base inside.

Whitegoods are hardly consumables. The dishwasher tablets or the water filters are, but not the appliances.

      • I've just had so many dishwashers/dryers/washing machines over the years, and they have all had such a relatively short life, I don't think the fuss some people make about them is really warranted.

My appliances normally get a very hard life with me (LOL), so maybe that is why they had such short lives.

        • I'd be looking at what you might be doing wrong, or don't by the cheapest ones on the market…

    • Given you have to also pay for installation, and sometimes disposal, I don't see them as consumables. My old Miele lasted over 20 years and we only replaced it because it was beginning to make noises and we have an open plan house. The guy who took it away said was going to refurbish it and resell it.

You don't need pay for install (if cupboard has tap/electrics done)
Just plug in power and connect water and drain.

    Any thouhgts on Westinghouse?

      Crap, comes to mind.

      • Reviews say very differently. Confused

    • I have one that was brand new in my apartment when i bought 12 months ago.

It didn't work for 3 months due to poor installation by the retailers delivery people causing the body to twist (it only has 3 legs) and therefore the door wouldn't shut. I fixed this eventually.

I'd rate it as an average dishwasher. It's not quiet and not noisy. The basket layout isn't great. I probably wouldn't buy one but i think it was only $500 from 2nds world so you aren't going to get a Miele (which I had in my previous house for 20 years) for that price.

  • Bosch are great. The entry models will be fine.

  • Personally I would look for one with a rack at the top for cutlery rather than a cutlery basket. It seems to clean the cutlery better.

Personally, I'd wait for a deal on the Bosch 8 series. We have 2 in-use (2 homes, 1 replaced a 15 years old Miele), and I have nothing bad to say about them. Clean dishes extremely well, and are very quiet.

At the very least look for a series 6 as the lower-end models aren't built anywhere near as well.

Beko, got this for $500 with delivery from JB, around 7 months ago. happy with what I have paid. 5 years warranty for the peace of mind.

but it all depends what you expect, it doesn't have that cutlery tray or other fancy lights and all. does clean the dishes as expected

  • Side Q guys, how much do you pay for getting such dishwasher installed? any tips where to search? I am in Sydney.

If you already have a dishwasher.

      1. Remove old dishwasher from cavity.

      2. Disconnect hot, cold and drain. (Some may not have hot).

      3. Take old dishwasher to local transfer station. Usually free disposal.

      4. Reconnect new dishwasher.

      5. Push into cavity.

      6. Adjust feet height. Apply trim tape (fills the cavity gaps). Apply kick plate cover.

Apart from the disposal of the dishwasher, you should be able to complete the installation in less time than a phonecall for a quote.

      • More detailed than what I was going to write, which was just "DIY".

      • Awesome, thanks :)

      • item 3: Ring local scrap metal dealers to see if they will take it. It's probably worth $5 unless it has a full plastic body. If you are handy scrap out the pump motor, wiring, etc (not that it's worth a great deal more).

  • Dishwashers are one of those products that you get what you pay for.
If you have the budget, then I would go Miele.

    • My Miele dishwasher died after three years, out of warranty of course. Miele wants a reports from the third party repairer to consider fixing it but third party report would cost $130 or so. Never again considering the price and hassle.

      • I’d be going back to them mentioning statutory warranty and there 20 year testing ads. I would also tell them you are willing to get the report but they have to pay for it if it comes back a fault with the dishwasher. Personally my original Miele dishwasher lasted over 20 years.

        • Converting it to an IP. Too lazy to take the fight and also have to be at home atleast two days:-(. Not confident it would last another 3 years even if it is fixed.

It worked well for 3 years. Don't think it's exceptional in anyway.
