Shame it doesn’t look as though they have the black colour. Not so sure about white. Remember Cash Rewards is 8.5% for Rebel today.

I note that the rebel listing for this watch says that it has Garmin Pay, that is incorrect.

From reading DC Rainmaker's review of this watch - doesn't that mean that the FR645 music is better than this watch in almost every other way? Particularly with the altimeter (important for elevation)…

IIRC the 645 music got released last year, and from history it has been as low as $400…

    https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2019/04/garmin-forerunner-245-mu…

Of course, at this point you may be trying to understand the difference between the Forerunner 245 and the Forerunner 645 series? No problems, here ya go:

    – Forerunner 645 has a barometric altimeter (and thus better elevation metrics)
    – Forerunner 645 has stair tracking (due to barometric altimeter)
    – Forerunner 645 allows you to get Garmin Running Power (Stryd/RunScribe works with FR245 fine though)
    – Forerunner 645 allows more custom data pages
    – Forerunner 645 has Garmin Pay contactless payments
    – Forerunner 645 has a fancier silver looking bezel
    – Both Forerunner 645 variants have WiFi (whereas only FR245 Music has WiFi)

    • Agree. I would get the 645 and pay a little more if you can’t wait

    • Some of the comments attached to the DC Rainmaker review further outline some of the differences. For example “(the 645) doesn’t have the same metrics according to FirstBeat (645 has 11, 245 has 14) – missing: Body Resources, Respiration Rate, and Race Time Predictor. Also the 645 doesn’t have the Sony GPS chipset that has better battery life.”

There is also mention of an updated heart rate sensor present in the 245 but not in the 645.

      I have FR645 Music.

Personally I would probably pick FR245 if the new features (body battery, etc) don't get ported to FR645. I don't use those power measuring devices. I don't use Garmin Pay at all (my usual card not supported), and the altimeter feels inaccurate. I ran the same course with friends with Apple Watch, and with my Google Pixel — elevation gain from my FR645 is only about 60% of other devices. Or maybe Garmin is the accurate one here — but either way it makes those elevation challenges on Strava more difficult to achieve :(

I also prefer black rim than silver on FR645. Not to mention that it's cheaper.

I am now just hoping Garmin would include those new features in the firmware upgrades.

ah thanks for the insight! I was contemplating waiting out for the FR645 music to go on sale.

should note that bupa members can also get 20% off - I just logged in my account and put it in my cart, and got it to $439.20 (shipping included). You'll also get to pick the colour you're after

You can get 8.5% back through cash rewards buying from Rebel so you would save another $37. I believe you can get new bands pretty cheap through Amazon to make it not so white. I’m going to have a think about it today to see which way I go.

        • Hey mate, could you explain a little more about the Bupa member thing? Cheers.

  • I thought Fenix 5s is a better deal?

For me the 245 pros are newer hardware, less weight (67gr for Fenix 5S vs 38.5gr), has music capability, Garmin seems to have added a lot of the higher end training features to the 245.

Cons - the 245 has no Garmin pay nor altimeter. I don’t think the 5s has Garmin Pay either.

      • Thanks

  • I'm after the non-music 245. I can't seem to find it(or even the music version) using Rebel's search. Is it available?
